Simply Soul — Restaurant in City of Niagara Falls

Eat Here!‼️ After driving 7 hours 🚘from Northern VA to Niagara Falls NY we were ready for good food 🍽🍜. Prior to any trip, we research the destination to find out where the locals eat.

We actually had to walked 20 mins, passing about 20 other eateries to reach Simply Soul. I was just hoping this place was going to be decent. Let me tell you we ate and left no Crumbs😋. The food was awesome!!!! 💯‼️

We ordered, Fried Shrimp🍤, Catfish Nuggets, Hot Honey wings with Mac and cheese and Collards🥬, Ribs🍖, and Chicken🍗🧇 and Waffles. Umm ... it was only 3 people. We ate all of it except 3 wingettes a 1 rib & the cornbread, all of which we took back to the room.

Everything came out piping hot ♨️and delicious. The batter on the Shrimp and Chicken was flavorful, crispy and actually adhered to the Chicken and Shrimp. The same for the Catfish nuggets served with tartar sauces...the nuggets had a cornmeal crisp breader and it was delicious & steaming hot. I remembered to take pictures after the basket was nearly gone--- there was at least 8-10 Shrimp and even more Catfish nuggets in each basket.

We bought the Appetizer versions of Shrimp, Catfish nuggets so we would not have to get all the sides dishes. No sides come with Chicken and Waffles --- which is good because you get 4 pieces of juicy, hot, crispy fried Chicken made to order (so you have to wait for perfection 💅) ---my son ate the Breast, the legs and the wings; I ate the thigh. It was just as delicious as the other food....Ribs delicious but not sticky like southern rib....they were hot with a savory sweet barbecue sauce drizzled over them, they were delicious. All the food was bought for us to share....but my son ate the majority of the ribs. For context, my husband an I weren't hungry, "we could eat"--- but we have 50 yr old appetites so we were just hoping the food would be worth the 20 min walk. We were pleasantly surprised that food tasted as if someone's southern granny was in there seasoning, flouring, & frying the food for us. They only reason I knew we weren't in the the south was because there was NO SWEET TEA! (The one point of improvement). My son loved The Mac & Cheese but went easy so he could eat the other food. The Collards were a little sweet to me, but I know some like them that way. My son has a young adult appetite, he devoured everything that wasn't Shrimp and Fish.

The location has been there 5 year, its Black owned. Their service was great, the food was great. Their customers were all ethnicities, we saw both Black and White, old and young people, the location is nice & clean--and their prices were low considering how delicious the food was...we paid $108 including the tip. They stay open until 9pm every night except Sunday.

This place is not listed on the map given by the the hotel we stayed at, which had a list of "eateries" for the Niagara Falls area, but every restaurant we passed was listed on that map. Visitors to Niagara Falls, NY are missing out by not being told about this hidden Gem, Simply Soul. Show them some love and get these hotels to put them on the map. A...

Fast food ain't good. Good food ain't fast.

This hangs on the wall of the kitchen, visible from the dining area tables. I can end my review here, but, here's a few more of my thoughts about Simply Soul restaurant.

Bring your hunger, but also your patience (I didn't), as your order is prepared with the time it takes to bring out such tastefully created dishes.

I ordered the burnt ends starter, then smoked chicken with 2 sides, and a 3rd side for extra. The owner comes by and says, do a rib and smoked chicken combo with the 2 sides (collard greens and Mac n cheese) plus my 3rd side of dirty rice. He said it'll save me 7-8 bucks Being used to "that's a $ more" for few drops of sauce in a tiny container at most places, for someone to walk to you and suggest this - I'm going back to the restaurant just for that!

Let's go to the food.

My intent to have burnt ends did happen, as the rib order came with 1 burnt end 🤣 And my, how good was that! Ribs done so well that they were slipping off the bone and you could eat the cartilage and tendons. Great taste.

While the taste buds kept my heart glued to the left side of the plate with the ribs, my right eye kept darting to the right side of the plate, with the tantalizing smoked chicken smothered in barbecue sauce (request the extra sauce and you're welcome, ask for more). The knife and fork took a small chunk of the chicken with some skin, and all the sauce that could fit - it was the equivalent of heaven in a single bite.

It took a lot from me to move away from the ribs and chicken to the sides - I started with mac n cheese - cheese crisped up under the soft shells. Perfect amount of cheese and salt. Simple and yet, so powerful!

Collard Greens - whatever they added to the broth, it made the taste so good that for just 1 second, I thought I should go back to being a vegetarian and just order a plate of collard greens!

And finally to "dirty rice"- what a misnomer to name this great concoction of rice and everything in it as dirty rice? I'd call it "beautiful rice".

Corn bread - I never eat it without butter, but this one was still hot and I ate a morsel and forgot the need for butter.

I can go on and on. The food overall is 20 stars out of 5.

Service was quick, they check on you, but leave you be - as they know you're busy.

I ended up packing about 40% of my order. Plus as take out, I ordered 2 of the peach dumplings and a sweet potato pie.

Been about 36 hrs and I'm already craving for the amazing food that I was fortunate to taste and importantly, meet the lovely people running Simply Soul.

As for myself, I'll drive from Toronto GTA, back to this restaurant to try the remaining items on the menu, one visit at a time.

Do yourself a favor and go try their food, I mean, the food with soul that...

LETS JUST START BY NEVER ORDER FROM HERE EVER. I placed my order @6:21pm for the (4) pc meal a breast, leg, wing, thigh, and it comes with two sides.(Yams and green beans were my choices) I got notification it was ready my FIRST dasher goes and the order is not ready after it has been 40minutes. (7:01p) to be exact. He cancels. Another dasher goes he's there in 4minutes from 7:05p he is waiting until 7:34p he leaves because the order is NOT ready. HOW?! Finally my third driver goes she is there quickly as well and the communication we had back and forth I appreciate her and her patience! She was there at 7:40 I called the establishment they didn't answer none of my calls. My dasher advises me they told her 10minutes. After 20minutes 8:00pm I check in she says it's still not up. At this point I'm very frustrated. She then says they said few more minutes. I call the answer and say "we are not accepting orders." I stop him right there and say "I placed an order @6:21p HOWEVER my order is not ready after almost 2 HOURS. It don't take TWO HOURS to fry chicken and warm up canned sides. He proceeds to say a lie he didn't even think about "the machine said it was ready and it wasn't." THE MACHINE SAID IT WAS READY AND IT WASNT . Read that again. Are we waiting for a machine to make the food? That still doesn't explain two hours. Finally @8:17p mind you there CLOSED. They close at 8p my dasher says she has my order. It has arrived with ZERO seasoning in the canned green beans. Yams are fine. & TWO PIECES OF CHICKEN I WAITED TWO HOURS FOR TWO PIECES. This is why these establishments aren't supported. My patience was beyond. & they had a nerve to put a menu on top as if I would ever order from here again. PLEASE DONT. Simple soul is simply NOT it. AND DONT BLAME DOORDASH. You ACCEPTED THE ORDER. CONFIRMED you recieved it @6:21pm we get notification when a restaurant gets our order and accepts it meaning working on it which is HOW doordash gives you an ETA. I worked in food with doordash. You confirming the order/accepting it is you physically printing out the receipt for it to get it ready. IF you did not see it my order would have never been confirmed meaning NO driver would’ve been assigned. Don’t try and save yourselves you messed up and that’s that. It’s not doordash it’s YOU.
