We visited the station by accident yesterday. We planned to follow the trail to see the Niagara Power Project. But the long walking had made us exhausted. So eventually we did not go to the power project, but attracted by the Schoellkopf Power Station. It was about 5 or 6pm when we got to the station after a whole day's tourist visit. It's not an attractive visiting site as we was passing by the small building. Thanks for our curiosity that we peeked in the room and saw the sign "we are openned". So we opened the door and slipped in carefully because we were still not sure what this "torn", " old" and "discarded" small building was for. As we saw the photos and exposes, we were sure it was a "museum". Then we hesitated to wait for the elevator to take us down. We were still feeling unsure whether we could go down and what we could see down there..... Ok, I will stop here and leave you alone to experience your own journey. To me, it's an amazing visit. I had never expected that I could learn so much here. I will say, I would feel regretted if I were not there. To me, it won't be a perfect journey to the falls...
Read moreInteresting history. 🧐Nice hike🚶♀️ along the river past chunks of ruins.😲 This was especially interesting for me because one of the original Maid of the Mist boats is there. My Dad took me on that boat 40 years ago! It looks so small compared to the huge ferry ⛴️ type in use today.
The entrance to this ruin is a brick elevator building right on the cliff edge of the river, located across from the police 🚓 station near the parking lot of the Niagara aquarium🐠. This is also right where the tram stop is and the Niagara shuttle bus stop which operates on weekends and also connects to the campground and the Erie...
Read moreThis is another interesting free stop in the falls area. You take an elevator down to the gorge. Once you on the lower lever there is a large picture board that shows you the history of the power plant destruction. You can see what’s left of large pipes or tunnels for incoming water that was connected to turbines that are long gone. There is also a huge new crane that is used for the Maid of the Mist boats. There were two boats docked...
