First time stopping to see the Niagara Gorge View, and it was so beautiful! We went in the peak of fall to see the foliage, and it did not disappoint. The water is extremely blue and is beautiful to see, especially with the fall colors in the trees! There are plenty of different trail entrances that have stairs that lead you down, but be aware there are a lot of stairs! So if you find stairs to be difficult, then it may not be the best for you. (The view from the top is just as good) There was a small lot to park right by the trailhead we went too but I'm not sure if every trailhead has one. It wasn't too busy but it was a Monday! Read morePretty steep hike, up and down. Some of the natural stone steps are well over 1 ft. Sandals definately not recommended. Flip flops are very, very bad idea. Some segments of the narrow trails have potentially risky segments if you are not minding your footing. The trails are beautiful and safe if you observe signs and walk in the middle. What seems to be a tough hike is totally worth it, because you can spend a few hours at the bottom - the choppy niagra river gorge, speed boat, cable cars above.... Read moreIf at all possible, do this trail on mountain bikes. This was a lot more fun than just hiking. You can walk the bikes whenever you like.
When you reach the point where the trail from Whirlpool bridge comes down there is a huge rock. Back around 1990 we used to use this to practice rock climbing. There is a spot on top to run a belay line through if you are using a harness.
If you get down to the rapids there is a metal "sand" bar. It is mostly nails. However, people have "mined" it and found coins, rings and things from 100 or so years ago.
