Me and my girlfriend just moved into college, and had a Popeyes back home that we were big fans of. Tonight we were in the mood for Popeyes so we both made some online DRIVE THRU orders. It's as simple as we order the food and pick it up at the drive thru. So we got there at around 6:25, after we ordered our food at 6. We pull into the drive thru, where there are 2 order lanes. Someone is in the outer one so we pull into the other. Right when we pull into that spot, the other person is done, so we expect to be next over the speaker to tell them we had an order to pick up like the website told us to do. So we wait, and wait, and wait, and there is nothing. We must've sat there for a full 5-10 minutes in complete silence waiting. So instead of waiting any we just pull into the drive thru line. Once again we have to wait 5-10 minutes for the person in front to finally get their order.
When we pulled up to the window the employees were confused and starting looking at each other. One opened the window and asked if we were the 3-piece-tender meal which we weren't. I said "no, I'm here to pick up 2 orders I put through the drive thru." The employee asked "doordash?" and I again said "No just a drive thru online order." He said "Oh, well you have to pull over and come inside." That wasn't what I had chosen with the drive-thru option, because I just wanted to get it and go, but I still abliged and pulled over. My girlfriend walked in to get the food, and when got up to the register she found out they hadn't even started on our meals yet that at this point we had ordered 40 minutes ago. So I waited a good 15 minutes in the car once again for our food. My girlfriend said the employees were all over the place, not knowing what was going on and clueless on our orders we placed.
Finally we had gotten our food. I had ordered a chicken sandwich with pickles, a small Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes and gravy. My girlfriend got a classic chicken tender meal and mashed potatoes with gravy. First thing was that they gave us no silverware, so now I had to walk in and ask for silverware. I waitied at the register for a few minutes as the workers were all busy putting together orders for some people who ordered inside during the time I was parked in the parking lot. I see where the priority is. It took me 40 minutes to get my food because it was online yet because they came in person they get theirs in less than 10. The employees were once again all over the place. The one sitting at the drive thru window just started asking people to grab her her phone while they were trying to put orders together, which they did. Then the other one out-loud said he had a "brain fart" over one persons order. Then finally they came to me and asked what I wanted. I said all I needed was plastic silverware to eat. He said "Is there none out there?" and looked at the drinks table, where there was no silverware put out for people to use. He asked what kind of silverware I needed, which I just said spoons and forks. Turns out they just have sporks which doesn't make sense why I was asked in the first place. He grabbed me my sporks and I finally was ready to eat.
When I was eating I noticed that the pickles there aren't kosher dill, they are buttered. Obviously I know people like buttered pickles but it just wasn't my thing, no biggie. But then my Mac and cheese was super runny and mushy, super different than what I have seen previously at other locations, probably because they just grabbed it off the shelf that was already premade and put it in the bag, but once again I'm not too worried, it was just ok. The last strike came when my girlfriend had her tenders. They were spicy although she ordered classic. You could see the spices on the tenders itself. Not only that, but they were dry and my girlfriend said tasted like they had been on that shelf all day. She said it was "like they were stale." The mashed potatoes were fine and I had no issues with them.
Overall, for our first Oswego Popeyes experience, we aren't going back. Bad food,...
Read moreI really hate to rewrite this review, as Popeye's has been one of my family's favorite places to eat for decades now (other locations). We used to eat at the Popeye's that was located on Erie Blvd in Syracuse way back when - and the food was always delicious. On business trips, my dad would stop at the Popeye's on the thruway coming back home and bring back dinner for us. The chicken was juicy, well-seasoned, and always cooked right. The red beans and rice was amazing - great smokey flavor, creamy, and well-portioned.
We got some carry out at the Popeye's the second week they were open (the traffic was nearly impossible when trying to get in during opening week). We got a small order - just some popcorn shrimp and mashed potatoes, and they were pretty good. I heard some people badmouthing this Popeye's location for their cleanliness and quality of food, but wrote their opinions off as merely complainers or people with poor taste.
We went back through the drive-through about a month later. This time, we ordered our favorites - fried chicken, red beans and rice, and popcorn shrimp. We were so disappointed. The chicken was overcooked and old. The batter was like chewing on glass, and the meat was completely dried out. The red beans and rice were mostly rice with little gravy or beans and tasted like it had been lingering in the bottom of a steam pan for the last day or so. Even though i asked for cocktail sauce for the popcorn shrimp, they forgot it (this is a reoccurring theme). The young lady who took my order seemed so disinterested and bored, and a bit inconvenienced. Even after this poor experience, we wrote it off as an outlier.
We tried Popeye's again, maybe a month later. This time, we ordered their famous chicken sandwiches and popcorn shrimp. The chicken sandwiches were served in foil-lined pouches and extremely soggy. The popcorn shrimp were dried out and almost inedible. Once again, they forgot the cocktail sauce, even though I asked if it was in the bag at the window. We decided our luck had run out with good food from Popeye's.
Then one day, we saw a message on Popeye's billboard: "Under New Management". Awesome!!! We thought the new management would straighten things out. So we decided to give the place another try. We ordered fried chicken, which at first bite, was good. The batter was crunchy, and the meat was still juicy and tender. But in my second bite, I noticed the meat still on the bone was pink and red....the chicken wasn't cooked all the way through! Someone could get really sick from salmonella poisoning. This was the final straw. We haven't been back in months, and I don't see us doing so in the future.
It seems like this particular Popeye's suffers from too many people who just don't care. If the proprietor of the Oswego Popeye's is reading this, please don't waste time talking trash with the Oswego KFC (their chicken is ALWAYS cooked well and their employees are kind). Instead, focus on making good quality food, providing good customer service, and providing and maintaining a...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Popeyes for the first time today and before I continue this review I'd like to say that my husband works in the food industry. Needless to say I will not be going back. The experience we had was not a good one. We went there for a quick lunch while we were in Oswego and first and foremost, the customer service was not that great. The girl who took are order didn't smile or even really greet us, she seemed miserable and after taking our order promptly walked away without a word. Next, I feel it took too long to get our food which I don't understand considering they were not busy at all and there were 4 people working. As we waited for our food we went to find a table to sit at and every single table and even the drink station was disgusting with food crumbs on all of them because apparently they hadn't been wiped down at all. Again they were not busy and there were 4 people working. There is no reason someone couldn't wipe down the tables. The floor was also gross, with sauce cups on the floor and fries under tables and even dried mud on the floor from someone's shoes. Once we received our food I went to the counter to ask for ketchup before realizing that they had buckets of sauce right there but not one worker bothered to ask me if needed anything, some stared at me blankly and another who was upfront giving another customer in front of me food to go walked away without a word without inquiring if I needed help. Now to the food, it sucked. First, my husband got Dr pepper from the machine and it was flat and tasted like syrup. Second our Cajun fries were stale, not fresh at all and didn't even taste like they had any seasoning on them. My husband got the spicy chicken sandwich, it was so overloaded with condiments he couldn't taste the chicken and it was way too hot for him to even finish. I got the classic chicken sandwich and it was not even hot, luke warm is more accurate. And it seemed a bit watery so I didn't finish mine either. The only thing I got with my meal that was decent was my sprite. Again my husband works in the food industry and we understand that it can be stressful and busy but there is no reason for your restaurant to lack the basics, like a cleaned up dining room and hot fresh food. This was our first time there and it will be our last. I hope whomever runs this location sees this review and improves. Thank you and have...
