I will preface this by saying that my reviews are typically very blunt and are designed to help owners improve their businesses. With that out of the way—Norma J's new location is a great addition to the downtown area. The cashier at the counter definitely was a car saleswoman in her past life because she upsold me on a ton of stuff. Very friendly and great recommendations! Unfortunately got a mismarked breakfast sandwich (I don't eat meat) but the potato sticks were great-- definitely a top item along with the homemade quiche! I've been here a few times now and the food is actually pretty good and you can tell there is a lot of passion put into the products. The quality isn't always consistent but still worth trying to see what you like and don't (very well could be personal preference!). I never went to the old location but the new location is squeaky clean and has a diner-style vibe which fits perfectly as a grab & go breakfast spot. The other reviews comparing this to subway are definitely a bit ridiculous because it does have a nice variety and really maintains that small business feel that brings a uniqueness to the area. The owners aren't the friendliest bunch, but luckily the staff there has enough customer service skills to carry the team across the finish line. I look forward to seeing this business grow and hope for it's ongoing success. Norma J's scratches an itch Plattsburgh's downtown scene definitely needed. I highly recommend it, especially if you're on the run and need a quick bite in town.
Edit: apparently the owner was reading off my initial 4 star review to colleagues and customers (which is inappropriate/bizarre) and was furious. Instead of taking this feedback with an open mind, the owner deflected blame on me for my bad experience. My initial review was kind, patient and understanding because it’s not easy to run a business. Nobody is perfect and I understand mistakes happen….but this kind of attitude really makes all those other comments about rude owners and poor customer service feel so much more real. Due to this, I have adjusted this down to 1 star. Since my initial visit, I’ve heard so many horror stories about refusing to heat up cold food that should be hot and fresh (the owner encouraged customers to microwave food themselves) or just general unfriendliness. I tried to give this place a chance but between the bad vibe and sub-par food, I really can’t recommend it at all. I don’t foresee this bakery lasting long downtown if the owners are unwilling to listen to feedback or provide a welcoming environment for customers. If they want to provide a “customer is always wrong experience”, Norma J’s should have become an insurance company instead...
Read moreUndoubtedly the most underrated breakfast spot in the Plattsburgh area. They have fantastic food and great prices. Quick, friendly service. Daily specials are always "exciting" and delicious sounding, today's was Pumpkin French Toast with cinnamon butter! Pancakes are bigger than your head and hanging off the plate. Eggs/omelets cooked to perfection and come out piping hot. I had the "build your own scramble" and added sausage gravy. Yum! Hamburger Mac was delish, a must try! All around, a highly recommended spot that you must try out. I would hate to see this place go, definitely needs more support and more hype. Southside is a tough spot for a business to thrive, but being right in Skyway Plaza, there is ample parking, and really no excuse not to stop in and give this local business a try. Bounds and leaps better than any chain restaurant, and a top contender among its local competitors. Easily deserves a spot in your top three local breakfast joints (mine would be Penny's, Norma Js, and Michigan's Plus, Hungry Bear will have to settle as number 4...
Read moreNo doubt your bakery and food is very good but 7 dollars for a breakfast sandwich and I just want it on a biscuit you charging a 150 more I find that's insane. I understand your biscuits are homade but it should be included in the sandwich price. To be honest charging that much for a breakfast sandwich your just losing potential customers because a lot of people don't have 10 dollars just for a small biscuit sandwich I didn't even pay that much for a breakfast sandwich in long island and everyone knows long island is a very expensive place it was 6 to 8 there. Last time I ever paid that much for a biscuit sandwich was in louisiana but it was twice the size and had bacon and sausage on it. I understand there's inflation and that should be even more of a reason to understand that even though you make great food pricing people out is not good for business. I guarantee if you lowered that biscuit sandwich price and offered a coffie with it you would see more people order it. Thank you for your...
