Don't know what hit harder, the sugar or the price.
I'm pretty familiar with bakeries, been around to quite a few, and normally I can buy a box of 5-7 things for a nice price and I'm able to polish everything off without feeling like I'm entering a sugar coma.
That was not the case at Mrs. London's, this is a bakery that you need to limit yourself or suffer the consequences. I was short sighted in my eagerness to treat myself on my cheat day, but I still only grabbed 5 things after seeing those prices. $8.50 for most things, woof, and for just the five things my total came to a bit over $38, more than the cost of my actual dinner that night.
But on top of that was what I would come to discover later, and that is these are some of the most decadent desserts I have put in my mouth in quite awhile. Their attempt counter the sweet with sour was not working either, as the two sides didn't cancel each other out, and instead just got into a slap fight with my tongue.
The best pick I made was the Brittany, a sweetish pastry that was far lighter on the sugar with only a simple caramelized sugar exterior. The lemon meringue tart was also pretty yummy, but boy, was the crust of the tart ever brittle and sweet. Sadly that's about where my fun times ended, as the grand macaroon was the thing that turned my mouth into a boxing match, being far too sweet or far too sour. The rum raisin roll was suppose to have a custard filling, but all I found were the rum soaked raisins and only the tiniest of custard remnants in the middle. And then the Framboise, had a flavor I could only describe as melted raspberry sorbet, but far sweeter.
As I lay down and do my best to relax my poor heart from feeling the aftereffects of my poor choices, I can't say that Mrs. London's was a bad choice. A couple of my picks were quite good, it was simply I was inexperienced about how decadent they do their stuff. So I think a 4 out of 5 will do nicely. Just don't make the same mistake I did, stick to just one thing here, it...
Read moreWhile we came in for delicious treats, we sadly left with bad tastes in our mouths....Mrs. London, you need to send your staff to etiquette school!
While waiting to be helped, we abruptly hear an employee call out "THERE IS WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE IN THIS SHOP"! This was followed by an uncomfortable questioning of everyone on line and who they were with. It felt unwarranted since everyone was wearing masks and acting appropriately. While luckily we weren't scolded out of the store, the people behind us were rudely told to wait outside in the cold (to which we should have left along with them, just on principle).
I understand there is a pandemic but there is a right way to talk to your customers. It is not our fault a line is forming inside your store because service isn't moving quick enough. It is also ungracuous to act like you are doing us a favor when in fact, we put our anxieties aside to support your local business. I attached a photo of the desserts we bought yet I do not care to review them. You should however, probably address your...
Read moreLate to post but absolutely loved the St Patrick’s Day macarons at Mrs London’s Bakery. Mint chocolate with lucky gold sprinkles…what a treat! Truth be told, the daily variety of macarons never ever disappoints. There was also vanilla latte (on the right) and Biscoff biscuit (on left) macarons which were also heavenly. For those of us with wheat allergies (very similar to those who must be gluten free) Mrs London’s does have a few options, which is always so wonderful. Macarons are a wheat free recipe by nature. They also make a chocolate Nebula (mousse, ganache and flourless cake dessert) which is divine. And the oat chip cookie that is GF is perfect with a cup of tea or coffee. However, please be fully aware that it’s a bakery and there’s literally wheat flour in the air. So remember that you know your allergy, intolerance or disease tolerance...
