Athena's Family Restaurant — Restaurant in City of Tonawanda

I remember going here several times in the early/mid 2000's and although I can't remember what I ate, I do remember it being good as I would not have went back multiple times if it weren't. However, fast forward to 2023 and oh how things have changed. Went here with my wife and neither of our meals were good..at all. I had a fish fry. Ok so it's western NY, very close to Buffalo, basically the fish fry capital of the world, right?. I've had hundreds of fish fry dinners in my life at numerous places and this is by far the worst of them all. Sorry Athena's but it's that bad. Worse than a local supermarket's fish fry that was previously my "worst fish fry"(whom I won't mention). This is my new "worst" .Additionally, the coleslaw was very watery and warm. Fish fry itself was dry, crumbly, not "battered" like 90% of the area fish frys it was a breaded fish. It may have said it on the menu I can't remember but that wouldn't have prevented me from ordering it either. It was just horrible and very Luke warm. My wife had the steak and it was as if it were frozen then boiled. It also had some sort of what seemed like a "sweet" liquidy glaze atop it. Ended up paying over $60 for these bad meals and a kids meal for our toddler (that had tasteless French fries almost like they were a cheap store brand fried in an air fryer. The only thing half way decent was the kids grilled cheese. I go out to eat for restaurant quality food. This was all food I could have made at home for much less money, and still taste better.i suppose we should have stuck to the"Greek" food on the menu . But next time we will go somewhere else we'll never go here again. Too many other options...

Awful food and service. I got a chicken dinner sub and they won't dip the tenders also got lettuce tomato and onion on it when I asked for Only lettuce mayo and provolone cheese. My boyfriend got a steak sub.. asked for sauteed onions peppers and mushrooms provolone and extra mayo no lettuce tomato or raw onion... they didn't have mushrooms although it is listed under sides but that was fine.. when he revived the sub there was lettuce tomato and onion NO MAYO! So now both subs are screwed up the waitress says well you can pick it off right? Okay fine we picked it off and asked for mayo.. finally get our mayo he takes a bite and the steak and cheese was so burnt it was scratching his throat on the way down.. He took 3 bites.. once the waitress finally comes to check on us me and my daughter are both finished eating so asked for boxes she first even acknowledge his sub so we tell her it is so bad hee couldn't eat it and will not pay for it.. she takes it away and a waitress that was passing by her says that looks absolutely disguising.. Then the manager tells her she took it off our bill and asked her if he wanted anything else.. mind you she never asked him the whole time. She brings the check over then did ask if he wanted anything else. No lady not anymore his fault is fine eating and he had completely lost his appetite. Should've been fixed right away! Me being a waitress we never complain even if we aren't satisfied with something but this place was so awful it has stuck with me and him for almost a month now.. I will say my daughter food (hot turkey sandwich)was the best dish at our table. And even that wasn't anything...

After spending two decades as a patron of your restaurant, you managed to destroy it in less than 30 seconds!

You would think knowing people have the ability to pull up your restaurant and review immediately, you’d be a little more careful with your food and customer service.

We’re all aware of the stress the pandemic has caused on businesses, but some seem to function without major problems, while others don’t care one way or the other. You’re the latter...

You served raw French fries with a to go order and when given the opportunity to correct the issue, you failed in a magnanimous way. Not once, but twice, tried to accuse me of not bringing the uncooked ones back when I did, then blamed the person at the register didn’t hear me or know what to do and then claiming to be closed before correction was made on my order. I wanted to bring the whole to go order back and throw it at your windows! But not even you can force me to waste my hard earned money unless it was ordering and expecting cooked food to be served when it wasn’t.

This isn’t my first issue with your restaurant, but I made a lot of excuses for people who clearly don’t deserve it or my families patronage.

Eventually, you will do this to enough people that you won’t have any local customers who will knowingly go into or order from your restaurant anymore.

I hope the owners wipe up the floor with all of you involved... sadly, I know they don’t have the ability to fire your butts because they are looking for people currently.
