Layne's Chicken Fingers opened up in Clearfield recently and I was kind of blown away, and this is why:
The Ambiance: Upon walking into Layne's the first thing you will notice is the simplistic and clean decoration. This place is quite clean and the atmosphere relaxed. The music is at an ideal level; not too loud, and not too soft. Great music too, IMHO!
The Service: I was greeted quickly by a seemingly happy employee who also took my order quickly and efficiently. I ordered my food to eat inside, and I was super impressed when, by the time I finished filling my Lemonade, my food was ready.... let's dig into that.
The Food: Oh man! I ordered the 5- Finger meal, spicy! The fingers arrived to me super hot and fresh. The first bite and I knew I was in love! These fingers are seasoned so well; dare I say perfectly... Indeed I do! They were also so juicy in a way I have not experienced in a chicken finger before. The sauce options are several. I got the Layne's sauce and the gravy. Both were fantastic. I loved that they serve a creamy country gravy in this establishment. It is so good you'll smack your mama! The crinkle-cut fries were cooked to crispy perfection and were deliciously seasoned as well. The Texas toast was, well Texas toasty! I drank lemonade and it was the perfect blend of sweet and tart.
To sum it up... you have to get here and try these guys out! Scott and Heather I...
Read moreMy husband and I are from Texas and as my husband is an Aggie who has been to the OG Layne’s multiple times, he was excited there’s one in Utah of all places. I had never had it before. But honestly I was a little disappointed:( I had heard that the chicken and sauce are more flavorful than Cane’s, but the only extra flavor was pepper. I couldn’t really taste anything else in the Layne’s sauce other than the pepper actually. The chicken was the same - just peppery. Which is fine but I was expecting more? The Texas toast was just regular toast it seemed. Texas toast in Texas is a lot thicker. The fries were good and the chicken came out hot! It really wasn’t bad but I was expecting more. The interior was clean. One of the menu screens was displaying a picture of a nice mountain instead of the second half of the menu and no one seemed to notice. There were 2 cashiers when we came in; one was taking an order and the other was just staring at the guests in line. I wasn’t sure if she was taking orders or not. She didn’t help us and we were nearly done placing our order with the other cashier when she told the people behind us that she could help them. Non-employees (at least not on the clock or in a uniform) kept going behind the counter to chat with people that were working - it was kind of an odd environment. It wouldn’t be my first choice to...
Read moreI’d been more than a little homesick for some real down home texas chicken. I loved the chicken shacks that had the best soul food meal and you could get it as the perfect hearty meal or truly the epitome of hangover or drunk food. I saw this restaurant pop up and I was beyond elated. The void for delicious gravy dipped chicken was going to be filled. The chickens breading is well seasoned and that perfectly soft crispy… which sounds like an oxymoron. But it’s so crispy it just melts in your mouth. And juicy… flavorful meat. The fries are the quintessential crinkle cut the only paring right for such delicious sauces. The gravy… any southerner would be happy. And the sweet tea served in its proper plastic tea glass? Layne’s sauce is that zip and tang you need to cut the fatty unctuous meal. Lovely your granny wouldn’t be mad potato salad. I am beyond happy to have a taste of home and love here in Utah. Thank you for bringing the light of great food to town. Northern Utah was devoid of great fried chicken and you absolutely delivered. Please don’t lose your passion for this business…. We as a state would be so lost without you. Keep spreading the joy and love of delicious southern soul food. I will be back and spreading the word of the gospel...
