Can be tough to find Great Thai in Utah.
I believe that Luck Thai is the new restaurant of the original owners of the Thai Khao Kang Express in Roy. That was the best place to get Thai food in Utah for a long time, and we used to drive up to Roy to eat there regularly. After they sold the restaurant though, the dishes changed and it went downhill pretty quickly.
I heard (from an Uber driver funnily enough) that the original owners were buying this place and opening a new restaurant. It's right near our house and we were so excited!
Just ate there for the first time tonight. It's just as good as the old restaurant in Roy.
We ordered some of our favorites from the old restaurant; Pad Thai of course. Thai basil stir fry Chicken noodle soup Lo mein with the red barbecue pork Chicken satay and pork satay. We also got the pork wontons.
Everything was fantastic. The only thing that was different from the old restaurant was the Thai basil. It's a great dish and the sauce and flavor are wonderful. But for some reason the chicken now seems to be kind of ground up chicken. Almost close to chicken hamburger. We didn't love that. The dish is still really good but I wish they would go back to the normal grilled slabs of chicken like they had at the old place in the pad Thai. I don't know, maybe it'll grow on us.
The chicken noodle soup sounds like a funny dish for a Thai restaurant but give it a shot. It's really good. Their broth is amazing.
If you're a fan of Thai food, I really recommend you give this place a try. No other Thai place locally can match them.
Just know that there is very limited seating inside...
Read moreCool new restaurant, and we had a good time here. I'm sure they are still ironing some things out, and we will go back in a while to see how things improve.
We had the sampler which was overall pretty good. Loved the shrimp and chicken satay in it. The peanut sauce was pretty strong, which we enjoyed, but the other sauce was so mild we weren't sure what it was supposed to be. Would had loved a stronger duck sauce or orange sauce or something else with some sweet chili oil or something for the spring rolls.
We got a masseman curry and red curry stir fry. The masseman was a strong peanut flavor which was good for a little while but got old fast as there wasn't much other flavor.
The red curry stir fry has an awesome broth/sauce flavor but it just wasn't present at all in the meat or veggies. The next day as a left over after it had time to sit it was much better.
The weird thing in presentation is that the rice comes in a bowl and the curry comes in a bowl, but no plate is given. It would be pretty nice to be able to take out what I want and combine on a plate so I control the purportions.
Good portions for the price.
Mostly sharing all this just to help the place to get better, which I...
Read moreFlavors are outstanding, portions are plentiful, and staff are friendly! The prices are a bit steep (~$2-3 more per plate than similar restaurants), but I suspect this is to offset 2 things:
I got the Vegetarian Pho (P9) and it was excellent. I suspect the broth still was made from chicken broth but I cant be sure. It would be worth to advertise that it is a vegetarian/vegan/plant-based broth, because some people can be very particular about it. The Pho was $18.95. A comparable Pho is from All Chay in SLC and the price is $15.95 (and they use a vegan broth). Again, the portions Luck Thai gives makes it worth it, but they could afford to reduce the portion and drop the price where it counts.
Overall though this place is a gem. I enjoy their Pho and will be...
