This is a long overdue review for my favorite coffee shop in Cleveland—HANDS DOWN!
After moving back to the city following nearly eight years in Chicago, IL (shoutout to Goddess and the Baker, Cafe 53, and Philz! ☕️💕) and a year in Arlington, VA (shoutout to Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters and Origin Coffee Lab & Kitchen! ☕️💕), the search for my new "go-to" landed me at EDDA.
I haven’t found any other shop that even comes close.
I had to shout out my previous favs to highlight a common theme: good coffee, good company, good music, and a little something called "common courtesy."
Baristas are people—with personal lives, aspirations beyond making your coffee, and feelings. A smile, ten seconds of sincere small talk, and wishing someone a good day (who will still be on their feet working long after you’ve left) costs you nothing—and this is coming from an introvert.
They are not machines or servants on autopilot; they are human. So come in with a positive attitude, leave the bad energy outside on W. 25th, and let go of the idea that customer service means a team of robots behind the counter brewing and/or steaming your coffee—responsible for your attitude or your perception of theirs...
I’ve had nothing but positive vibes. ❤️ If there was ever a time I didn’t like my coffee, guess what? I SAID SOMETHING! gasp And they remade it after asking what I didn’t like. How on earth would anyone know how to fix something if you only tell them after you’ve left and taken time out of your day to write a scathing, snarky review?
For those who did hop on Google to write a less-than-stellar review, imagine how great your cup of coffee could have been if you used your own agency to ask for a new or different drink? The time you took to run to Google (or YELP) could’ve been spent actually enjoying a better cup of coffee to get you through the day.
And that’s exactly what I get when I go—what I need to get through the day: good people, good coffee. Period.
To say that I’m a “regular” at this point would be an understatement. I literally look forward to going to EDDA before officially starting my day, in the middle of my day, and—on some occasions—ending or starting round two of an already long day.
Much love to: Emma, Brandon, Abby, Mattie, Morgan, Autumn, Alex (if I forgot a name, I’ll come back, edit, and add—lol).
Get the Brooklyn Avocado Toast and my fav: a caramel latte with honey, hot, with oat milk. Bring your own cup to be environmentally friendly. Your soul—and the earth—will...
Read moreI regret to inform you that my recent visit to Edda Coffee was a complete disaster, marred by an appalling incident and an utter lack of customer service. Despite driving for two hours to experience this highly recommended coffee place, I was left deeply disappointed and disheartened by the entire ordeal.
The most distressing aspect of my visit was the complete disregard for customer safety. As my companions and I were enjoying our drinks, we were suddenly subjected to an unprovoked attack by a homeless individual within the establishment. It is unfathomable that such an incident occurred without any intervention or assistance from the staff or management. The lack of security measures and the absence of any immediate action to diffuse the situation were deeply concerning and left us feeling vulnerable and unsafe.
Equally concerning was the lack of empathy and accountability demonstrated by the staff. Despite the traumatic nature of the incident, not a single member of the Edda Coffee team approached us to offer assistance, apologize for the distress caused, or even acknowledge the incident. It is simply unacceptable to treat customers, who had invested time and effort to visit the establishment, in such a callous and indifferent manner.
The overall experience at Edda Coffee left much to be desired. The atmosphere, which was supposed to be cozy and inviting, turned into a scene of chaos and fear. The incident overshadowed any potential positive aspects of the visit, making it impossible to fully enjoy the coffee or the ambiance. The fact that we had driven two hours to visit only added to our disappointment, as we had high hopes for an exceptional experience.
I strongly urge Edda Coffee to address its security measures and prioritize the safety of its customers. Additionally, it is essential for the management to instill a culture of accountability and empathy among its staff. A sincere apology and an acknowledgment of the incident would have gone a long way in restoring some of the lost faith in the establishment.
Regrettably, based on my experience, I cannot recommend Edda Coffee to anyone seeking a safe and enjoyable coffeehouse experience. It is important for businesses to prioritize the safety and well-being of their customers, and unfortunately, Edda Coffee failed to meet even the most basic expectations in...
