My husband and I made a reservation for 2 at 5 pm and were greeted and seated immediately. Our server, Maurice/Morris (sorry, I'm not 100% sure) was very sweet and knowledgeable. He greeted us immediately with the drink and food menus.
We ordered Quilt by Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, asparagi and gamberetti for appetizers, and the bone in ribeye steak, sachetti, and zucchini for our shared meal and side.
The wine was spectacular and paired well with our entire meal. The appetizers were different, but very good. The soup came out hot and robust, and you can never go wrong with well seasoned jumbo shrimps.
Our entrees, however, were portioned smaller than your average entree. We ordered the bone in ribeye medium rare and I'd say it was more medium and quite charred (see picture). It was also suppose to be 20 oz., according to our server, but it didn't look like it. Now, I know it shrinks when you cook it but it definitely did not resemble other shrunken 20 oz. steaks we've shared before. Nevertheless, we ate it and sadly, I could not shake the lingering taste of the charred steak. I was heavily disappointed by our steak experience here. The sachetti came with 3 maybe 4 homemade porcinis and definitely wasn't an entree portion. The side zucchini was fine; it came with chili spices and a lemon.
I did share the charred comment with our server and he agreed it came out more charred than usual. My words were, "was the steak more charred than usual?" Quite disappointing because it is a steakhouse.... On the contrary, he did comp 2 desserts which were refreshing (see pictures) but it didn't give me a wow factor.
Overall, it was an okay experience. Between our bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 1 side, we paid $213 (tip not included). I expected more for the price we paid, and I know we could've gone to a competitor steakhouse restaurant nearby and received more for the price...
Read moreMy fiancé and I went here for the first time with a reservation on a Friday. When we were seated we waited ten minutes before we even got water, and then a few more after that just to get the menus. Our waitress was very nice and attentive once she got to us. As our night went on we noticed the hostess stand staring at us and even pointing at us a few times, clearly they needed our table, but we had only been there not even an hour at that point and we had a reservation. Not to mention we ordered two apps, a bottle of wine, two mains including an expensive steak, and a side so we weren’t wasting their time monetarily. The glaring did not stop the rest of the night - only about 30 more minutes because we felt uncomfortable and got the memo that they wanted us gone. When it came time for the check and we put our card down, a man in a suit, presumably management, ran over and snatched our bill. He came back with it and forcefully put the pen in my fiancé’s hand. It was unbelievable and extremely disrespectful. As we got up and were walking towards the front, someone ran past us and cleared our table immediately. I said goodnight to the hostess and she rolled her eyes back at me in response. This was supposed to be a nice night out at an expensive restaurant and it was very disappointing to say the least. I have never felt so disrespected at an establishment before. The food was fairly good but something needs to change with how customers...
Read moreWife and I just wanted to get out of town for a night to celebrate our anniversary and it seems many restaurants, like Pittsburgh, are closed Sundays in Cleveland. Oliva seemed like a decent option for some wine and a steak so we made a last minute reservation. Space is really well done except for the strange purple kitchen. Oof. Server was gracious, I forget her name a somewhat taller woman with glasses - she did a very nice job and hit the table at the right times. Pretty good little sourdough bread they give you to start meal. Risotto texture wasnt great but flavor was. Fennel salad was just old water logged mounds of shaved fennel, came across bland. Prosciutto and radicchio was ok. Kitchen bottle necked but we were fine, filet came out nicely cooked, flavorful. Nice big piece of foie that was also perfectly cooked. Pretty sure they are using packet demi or maybe cornstarching a decent stock but whatever, the dish was good anyway. Server forgot our coffees for a moment and apologized and comped them and really didnt need to - we were fine. Just a few minutes not a big deal. Thank you. Great wine list too, but heads up you switched to a Turley Ueberroth Zin but the paper menu we had still said Dusi vineyard. Different vintages also. I didnt care just wanted a Turley Zin, works well with a wide...
