We stayed here for 4 nights around our son’s wedding. The father of the bride chose this hotel for its location, the wedding was at Windows on The River. The hotel lobby is industrial/high tech looking with a bar area and outdoor seating. Everything is very clean. Our double Queen room was very clean and the beds were comfortable, although one had a tan blanket covered by a sheet and the other had a white duvet, just odd. The room was on the 4th floor corner with a view of the working harbor, trains, and restaurants/clubs. Their were no drawers anywhere in the room to place clothing, there was a forward facing hanging area (8 hangers)in a dressing area next to the bathroom. There were no luggage racks, there was a modern sofa, and two desk like shelves at window level in the room. We were able to hang our formal wear and a few shirts…but we lived out of suitcases that took the space on the sofa. The sink/vanity area extremely small, a vessel sink on a counter about 20” wide. There was a mirror there, and a full length mirror on the pocket door to the toilet/shower area. The wall opposite the sink had a small area with a coffee maker, about 18”. There was a safe below that and a small fridge under the sink. The shower was nice but lacked a shelf or anywhere to set down anything. There was a rack for folded towels above the toilet and ONE knob to hang something next to the toilet and shower. There was NO other place to set anything down or to hang a damp tower or even a robe. We ended up setting up the ironing board to put towels over! The restaurants and clubs began to rock at 8 pm and did not stop until after 2 am. Apparently the large parking area in the area between the hotel and clubs is the place to go cruising….motors reaving and speakers thumping. We could feel the vibrations in our beds!!!! It’s a working harbor area; ships came and went and trains ran all the time, their noise was soothing compared to the street noise. On Friday nights a post wedding party left the hotel bar at 2 and ran through the hallways. We probably slept 3 hours a night. At checkout I mentioned this at checkout and was told to help myself to a few drinks and snacks from the pantry. The valet parking is $35 a night, self parking overnight starts at $25, the valet is worth the extra money. They were all very nice, as was all of the housekeeping staff we met. If you are going to party all night and sleep during the day have fun but if you need to...

The option for parking is using Valet ($40 a day) at the front door or go pass the Valet and right into the garage ($26 a day no in and out), or use other surface parking lot front or right of the building ($17-20 depending the events). From garage or valet go to the elevator (level P3 is the W. 10th street level) then up to floor 1 then right side will be aLoft hotel lounge. The hotel is very clean and convenient. No restaurant but quests will get a $5 voucher, or Plat member up will get member+1 voucher ($20 a day FB, vouchers can be save and used at once) to use at the refuel shop with drinks, snacks, packaged food or fresh cooked breakfast items.(no price on items except for cooked items on menu board). A chorizo breakfast wrap and bottle of cold Starbucks coffee was $15; Cold Starbucks coffee, OJ, a protein bar was $13.5. Lounge has right side the refuel store, then check in area, lounge area, way back the Wxyz bar. Facing the bar, right side has outdoor patio, left side also has a door to outside ground level for pet grass area. Also, to the left of this door you will see a recharge gym. GYM has an options! The aloft GYM is small with five cardio machines and a bench with barbel sets. Has towels, water station. Then you also have an option to use Browns Fit GYM downstairs (P2), this is a membership gym that is also open to aLoft guests. Fit GYM was nice with turf area, machines, free weights, classes, etc. Has locker room but didn’t get a chance to see. The hotel doesn't have a Pool. Room was clean, but cold, I couldn’t get the temp control to work, even turning off at the control it was blowing 61, so I ended up turning off at the main unit. But lots of spaces in the room and bathroom. Only thing was no drawers and live off the bag. One thing of note, if there is an event, the large grass area next to hotel and Oswell building can be very loud, although it shuts down at 11pm for quiet hour. Street side also can be noice due to the Flat area bars and restaurants. Place is across from the Flat, very easy walking, also only a mile walk to the Bicentennial Park and the downtown. Also, Edgewater Beach part is only 10 min ride to west using Rt.2 next to the hotel. As a life style hotel, there was...
Read moreWe thought this hotel was awful...clearly not up to SPG standards. The entrance is just weird; you enter through the parking garage and valet area, which is not very attractive at all. You have to take one elevator up one floor to the lobby and the rest of the elevators.
The contemporary design is hideous. The hallway is very dark with stained carpet everywhere.
The first gal who checked us in was awesome, but after that, they were all a bit abrupt; especially the lady who was in charge of making coffee in the little cafeteria area; she was highly offended that I was put out that there was no more decaf, no water and no bread. And who makes you pay for breakfast??? The coffee was complimentary, but the little container of cereal and milk and bagels had to be paid for. That's ridiculous.
The hallways are very dark and ugly, honestly. The carpets are stained and the one in our room made the whole room smell like feet. Gross.
Back to the contemporary design...there are no dressers anywhere!! There is a very narrow closet behind a curtain with enough room and hangers to hang about 6 items. The rest of your clothes...including undergarments...have to be left on top of a wide shelf right in front of the windows. The decor is downright ugly...sorry. The shower, fortunately, was great even though it is very dark and unattractive.
The vessel sink didn't drain very well, so that was disgusting.
The beds are very soft...too soft actually for anyone with back issues and the pillows are way too soft to be effective. This is an issue for us in other hotels also, but here it just added to the overall discomfort.
We were on the quieter side of the hotel, which was good. Apparently, if you're on the front side, it's quite noisy with trains and music from one of the restaurants. They, in fact, had music blasting when we arrived. It makes arrival quite chaotic what with cabs, valets, luggage, and the blasting music.
The one good thing is that there are several restaurants within walking distance, which is why we chose this hotel because we didn't want to have a car. Well, we wish we had sprung for a car instead!
This hotel is definitely not worth the price nor the number of SPG points it costs. Look elsewhere!!
Someone from SPG should experience this to see...
