Disappointing Experience Despite the Hype
When you walk into Fridaâs, the vibe is definitely modern Mexicanâalmost gives off a Saizon-lite feel, though not nearly as upscale. The ambiance sets some expectations, but unfortunately, the food and service didnât meet them.
I went in on a Tuesday for their Taco Tuesday deal ($1.99 per taco). At the counter, I was helped by a young girl who mentioned she was part of the family. I asked her what made their tacos âTijuana style,â and she simply replied, âThatâs how they make them in Tijuana.â When I pressed for more detail, she couldnât explain it at allâŚ.not exactly the most helpful interaction.
Ordering was a bit confusing. After paying, I had to walk over to a separate counter and tell the taco guy what I wanted. I noticed all the meats were already pre-cooked and sitting in warmersâŚ.not being cooked fresh to order, which was kind of a letdown. The guy preparing the tacos was pretty stingy with the cilantro and onions too. And the tacos themselves? Small.
I tried the asada, adobada, and birria. The asada had a bit of a smoky flavor, which was the only highlight. The adobada was tough, and the birria was pretty bland. The yellow corn tortillas had a nice texture, but theyâre clearly store-bought. At full price, these tacos definitely wouldnât be worth it. Donât even get me started on the limes that were browningâŚclear sign they were old.
I was also surprised to find the restrooms already dirty by 9:45 in the morningâŚ.especially with barely any customers around. Thatâs not a great sign for how things are maintained.
I did try the banana agua fresca, which was actually pleasantâŚnot overly sweet, and refreshing. But that alone isnât enough to bring me back.
Bottom line: Fridaâs feels more like style over substance. Thereâs not much authenticity here, and for what you get, itâs just not worth the hype. Save your money and head across the street to Taqueria Yareliâs. This unfortunately feels like another forgettable Mexican restaurant in Clovis destined to...
Read moreI came in on Saturday at 11am, I ordered two tacos and an iced matcha. I also asked for a cup of water. They stated they only have bottled water I didn't want to pay the extra $1 or 2 - so I just figured my drink would be done by the time I had my tacos. Nope, my tacos were done before my matcha . It appears that they forgot about my matcha. I had to go up to the counter and ask about my drink - they then blankly looked at me, no response then started making it / I sold the female staff person that I was halfway done with my tacos, parched and once again I asked for water/I said I don't care if it's tap just something to drink with my food since my matcha wasn't ready. They denied having any water - I asked how do you make all your drinks and they said we only have hot water. Finally my matcha was done - no apologies, no let's make this right, just that same blank look for the woman at the counter (blink blink blink) I was so annoyed - I liked my tacos - but not worth my money and frustration. Frida would not approve, especially on a hot 107 degree Fresno day. Pretty shameful. If you are serving food/resturant - please have the basics down - such as offering free water for the comfort of your guests, also customer services skills are greatly in need. If you want to keep customers treat them right the 1st time, you only get 1 chance to make a good impression and unfortunately Frida's has missed the mark completely. I have had better customer service at a taco truck. I won't be visiting this...
Read moreThe service and atmosphere were great! It was packed on a Friday night, but we expected it since itâs a new restaurant and they are advertising on social media and local news.
While we waited outside in line, one of tj workers gave us a qr code so we could look at the menu.
Food wise, I canât say that it was worth the wait. We got tacos and asada fries. Tacos were picked up at the second counter and we awkwardly waited for our asada fries to be brought out. There were no tables available.
The tortillas for the tacos seemed like they had to be cooked longer or with stronger heat. The pastor had good flavor but I couldnât tell if it needed more salt or huge amount of guacamole salsa took away from the meatâs flavor.
The quality of the asada meat on the fried was not the greatest. There was a lot of chewy fat pieces.
Iâve been to Dab Tacos in Fresno and Iâve never had issues with the quality of their meat also Garrafas Tacos. Great meat!
I donât think weâll be back unless we were in the area and maybe if I knew they changed their meat supplier and if the taqueros actually cook the tortillas enough.
We got a couple of free drinks as we waitedâ lemonade and banana....
