Update: Dropping this down to two stars. I so hate it when a great place goes downhill. I stopped in this morning and ordered decaf coffee and my favorite chocolate and almond croissant. The croissant was overbaked, tough, underfilled, and tasted day-old (I did eat it, hoping it would improve as I got to the middle of it. It didn't.). It might have tasted better had the gentleman working there offered to heat it up, as he did for subsequent customers (and I had already tipped him at the counter!). The decaf coffee was weak and watery, and I had to ask for a refill, again, hoping the second cup would be better (it wasn't). I really hate saying these things because this was my go-to place for a treat. I feel sad about it, and I don't know why someone who opens a great business doesn't care more about quality control. I actually told the gentleman this morning that the chocolate and almond croissant was tough. He told me it was overbaked, but then he didn't remove the ones that were left in the case. Keeping two stars because the bakery still has a good atmosphere.
Formerly: I went for lunch with two friends. All of our sandwiches were delicious, but one order was lost and took forever to arrive at our table, which made for an awkward situation. The pastries we had for dessert were amazing. One cup of our coffee had to be re-made (don't know what happened, but they were happy to re-make it). As the restaurant filled up for lunch, I became increasingly concerned about covid risk, as the indoor tables are pretty close together. (There is also outdoor seating but it is now way too hot to sit outdoors.) I wish this place had tablecloths, real plates, and real silverware. The paper plates and plastic utensils don't do justice to the food, and they are bad for the environment. Still, I think this place is going to be a go-to for me, for late lunch or dessert and coffee. The coffee is served in pretty china cups, which was appreciated. They have some service kinks to work out, and I really hope they switch to real china and silverware, but, regardless, you are going to love...
Read moreI've been meaning to write a review of French Delights Bakery for quite a while, after having visited a number of times. Everything here is amazing. The food is incredible. The shop is super comfortable, and there are a few tables available outside to people watch. The staff, though, are truly what set this business apart from most others in the area. Very welcoming, always polite, great with their recommendations if I'm ever stuck on what to choose (I usually end up getting both of whatever I was stuck between). I wanted to mention one visit from 11 months ago that really stood out. Was going to pick up my wife and new baby from the hospital in Melbourne, and wanted to get something special for the medical staff that had been taking care of both of them for a few days. Could think of nothing more special than items from FDB. Of course, this occurred to me as I was leaving the house...on a Saturday morning which understandably is a bust time for them. I felt horrible for springing such a large order on them last minute, but they were wonderful...super patient with me just popping in like that. The filled three large boxes with the most wonderful items. So many of the medical staff came by the room as we were packing up to thank us for the beautiful pastries, saying they were in the break room taking pictures of them and sharing bites with each other so they try a bit of everything. Anyway...huge review. Amazing, wonderful, and...
Read moreThis is a little bistro tucked in a storefront on Harrison Street in Cocoa Village. It has several tables and is usually playing something that makes you feel like you may be in Paris. Let me start with the food. The bakery items and salads are delicious. They have all of the usuals - Almond Croissants, Quiche, Meringue and Espresso. I have been going there for a little bit and there are a few things that take away from the experience. The place has such nice food but they serve it on colored paper plates. When you are sitting there drinking your expresso from the white demitasse cup with some plastic utensils and paper plate - it just detracts from what could be an elevated experience. More times than not when looking for a seat, I found the tables weren't wiped down. It's a small space and is very compact which makes moving around very difficult and you are usually looking at somebody's butt backed up against your table when seated near the counter. The arrangement causes a ot of clustering of people around the door which opens up into the crowd - more times than not this gives the impression of being too crowded and people just walk out. Stepping back and looking at the whole layout, the one thing which is not like a french bistro is the monster sized tables. If the t ables were smaller, it would decrease the crowding and make the place a lot more pleasant and less of a...
