I've watched with interest since this restaurant opened. I never ate at the Black Tulip, sad to say, but I was excited that there was going to be an authentic Mexican restaurant opening in its place.
With my husband being away for a couple of days, and a trip through Cocoa Village necessary, I thought I'd treat myself to a solo dinner.
I will admit I felt a little awkward at first; it took a few minutes for anyone to notice I was there, three servers looked right through me before a hostess appeared.
I didn't pay much attention to the main area, other than to see there was another dining room straight ahead through another doorway. I chose to sit outside because the inside felt overly warm and stuffy.
My server was attentive and polite, and very kind about my lack of Spanish. I always feel silly that I've not picked up more after almost ten years in Florida; if I ever finish my education I will probably take lessons.
I ordered tortilla chips with three kinds of salsa, Cochinita Pibil and the pan de dulce.
I was warned that one salsa was very hot and spicy. I thought I must be getting COVID for a minute, because it was just dark oily liquid with a few seeds in it. Not a hint of heat or flavor. Later, I overheard a different server warn a table that was just ordering of the salsa, and chimed in with my experience. Apparently I was not the only person to mention it that evening.
The Cochinita Pibil was floating in so much oil I think the pork could have doggy paddled. I brought most of it home so that I could try and wring out the grease. The meat was dry and tough. The corn tortillas were surprisingly dark, but quite delicious - almost the best part of the whole meal.
The dessert was a little dry, but the sweet (plum?) preserve/sauce on the side helped fix that.
All in all, an odd experience. Perhaps it was an off night, or they're still working out a few issues. I don't know that I will make a point of returning any time soon; it's a forty minute...

1st. They barely redecorated from the Black Tulip. Place is like a gourmet restaurant, or Italian restaurant serving overpriced mini Tapas tacos and a shot worth of a Margarita for $9.00. Not much has changed from the Black Tulip days, aside of the overpriced food.
We had a party of 6, and like others have said, they completely botched our taco orders.. it was a mess...people got wrong tacos and stuff they didn't even order. ...like 2 people ordered the beef cheeks and got the fried pork belly instead.
Again as others have said...the interior and ambiance is waaaaay off. It's a mild redecor of the black tulip...very bizarre for a higher end mexican cuisine place.
House Margaritas are $9.00 and served in a shot glass...literally 2 sips and done. What a rip off.
Tacos are tiny...literally about 6" around, and they are not that good. My Al Pastor and Skirt Steak Tacos were tough and chewy! They messed up 2 other orders of our guests tacos and gave them something totally different than what they ordered.
And the Al Pator is a joke...not even close to authentic
6 people, Bill was split up 4 ways ...Cot Dam...3 tacos for me and 3 tacos for the wife 2 miniature Margaritas and 1 beer with tip was $84.00....folks I'm not exaggerating here...it was Ludicrous!!
I left feeling Ripped Off!!!!
Would not recommend.
Pro Tip...they are owned by the people who serve gloopy gloppy Tex Mex at LA Marimba and El Leoncito.
Save your money, go to Margarita Island in Merritt Island for the best all around experience of great food and drink!! Better prices too.
Hey...at least we tried it...but that trash...
Read moreMy wife and I had a fantastic dinner at Milpas Tacos y Tortillas in Cocoa Village. The food was absolutely amazing! We shared flautas and a Mexican corn bowl to start, and both were delicious. The flautas were crispy and flavorful, and the corn bowl had a great mix of textures and tastes.
For our main course, we tried four different tacos, and honestly, we couldn't pick a favorite! They were all incredible. The unique flavor combinations and fresh ingredients really set Milpas apart. They even have a happy hour with half-priced beer and wine, which is a great bonus.
The service was also excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and they were happy to answer all of our questions about the menu. The restaurant itself has a cool, modern vibe, and it's a great place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal.
