I went to try this restaurant after seeing it on Deco Drive. I ordered the fried ribs meal with macaroni and cheese and collard greens for takeout. Everything was very good and cooked the way it should be. The macaroni and cheese was delicious, the greens were great and had big chunks of smoked turkey in it, the ribs were very tender and still had a nice bite to them from the frying and the Carolina sauce was really good as well. The ribs were 4 to an order and they were a decent size. The portions of mac and cheese and greens were big too. I only ended up eating 2 ribs and half of the sides and then had the other half of everything for lunch the next day. The cornbread was good too and I donât really eat cornbread but I liked this one. The takeout tray felt pretty heavy as it was a good amount of food. It was $21.08 and I left a $6 tip for a $27.08 total.
It took about 10-15 minutes for them to prepare my meal. Everything is very clean in the kitchen, dining area and restroom, they were actually cleaning up the kitchen as I was waiting on my food. Jaharvis made the fried ribs just as he did in the video for Deco Drive and yes he was covered in flour as well from working hard. I actually noticed that before I ordered and thatâs what made me order them. He was very polite and very positive as well. They definitely made me feel welcome.
Iâm glad I tried it out and Iâm going to go back to try the wings and some other stuff.
I would suggest a few things to the restaurant such as fixing the âOrder Nowâ button on the website so people can order directly online from you. Also, the signage for the restaurant was hard to see at night, theyâre located next to the barbershop on the opposite corner of the plaza of Wing Stop and the Fish Joint.
Everything else was great and I...
Read moreTried Grandma's Kitchen for the first time tonight. I live very nearby and was looking for an alternative takeout place.
First off, the online ordering at their website and a few other places I tried didn't work. So, I went to the restaurant and ordered in person. The guy there said only one of the online carriers worked.
I ordered the Fat Toni's platter so I could try a few things on the menu. $50 but enough food for 2 or 3 people. Came back 25 minutes later to pick it up, as instructed. It was ready in a bag when I arrived.
When I got home and opened it up, there was only one condiment. A small cup of honey mustard sauce in the container with the pork chop and ribs. No tartar sauce for the catfish, and also no cornbread as listed on the menu.
The pork chop was good. Fried, but juicy enough. The catfish was also pretty good. It tasted salty at first, but not too much. The light breading made it feel like you were getting more fish than flour. Would have liked some tartar sauce. I ordered the wings "hot" and they were in a traditional buffalo sauce. Not dry, seemed fresh enough. Good.
The ribs are a matter of taste. As many other reviewers have noted, they're fried. And chewy. Some people like them this way. I prefer a fall-off-the-bone, slow cooked rib. But these might be popular for some folks.
The two sides were also quite good. The collard greens had plenty of smoked pork ham hock or neck in them. The baked beans had a nice flavor with a clear cinnamon component.
Wish I could comment on the cornbread but I didn't get any.
I would give this place a higher rating if it's online ordering worked and I got a few condiments to enjoy...
Read moreI wanted sooooo bad to like this restaurant and I had really high hopes for it! I was excited to see a southern restaurant and what they had to offer! Then thinking that I would no longer have to travel to Sundayâs Eatery for Southern Food (unless I am cooking it myself). My coworkers and I first got it and we were thinking it was okay! All of us agreed but at that time, I would have rated it a 3.5. I got the catfish, macaroni & yams! Okay! I didnât feel like cooking on a Sunday and opted to go here for my family- almost $60 later- my husband and I deemed it the WORST MEAL of the Year from a restaurant. He got the catfish (sway) with yellow rice and greens! He said the only decent thing was the greens! He spit out the yellow rice and played with the fish. I got pork hops (fried in old grease), macaroni and yams (I can confirm they are canned because the lady after me that ordered asked). My kids had wings and fries! I bit off the chops and knew immediately I wouldnât like it but I proceeded and tried to force it down! I threw out 90% of the food! The young lady that assisted me is the reason for the 2 stars! She was pleasant. Would I eat here again- SOLID NO đ and I really wanted to support!
Update:8/14/22. Maybe I wrote it where it was misunderstood but my coworkers and I went in May and we didnât think it was horrible. However, my family and I ate on 7/10 (1 month ago) and it was not good AT ALL! The dates are on the receipts included. And the food wasnât as bad on that visit with the coworkers! I broke down what I got...
