We were passing through on a whirlwind road trip and only staying one night. We were all really looking forward to having a Wyoming steak when we stayed in Cody and the Cody Steakhouse got good reviews. Problem was: we were coming from Yellowstone (Old Faithful), 3 hours away and phone reception is non-existent from shortly after you leave Old Faithful to about 20min west of Cody. So I called from the parking lot of Old Faithful to place an order for take-out (since we’d be getting in about 30min before they closed) and the receptionist said they couldn’t do takeout orders until closer to closing time so call back at about 8:15/8:30pm to pick up at 8:45/9pm. Ok, fine but I didn’t know if we’d have cell reception back by then. I explained all this and asked if I could place the order now but they didn’t need to have it ready until that 8:45/9pm time. Receptionist was unwilling to make that consideration of even run that reasonable request by her superior. Just zero flexibility or willingness to “think outside the box”. So we journeyed on toward Cody and when we did finally get cell reception back about 20min from Cody to place our order, I got the same receptionist who said they had just had a large party come in and would do no further take-out orders but we could dine in if we got there before 9pm. At this point, my stubborn self decided to motor on to make it to the Cody Steakhouse by 8:55pm, and I did. She’d already locked the door but let me in anyway. I told her I was the gal who called twice previously and could I place my order. She said the kitchen was closed. Anyway, to make a long story longer, we were all highly disappointed by Cody Steakhouse and their failure to delight some out-of-staters who will pass on the message to other horse friends who might come to Cody, to avoid Cody Steakhouse. We went to Bubba’s BBQ instead and they went above and beyond to take great care of us and the food was...
Read moreI live in Cody and regularly eat at Cody Steak House. However, tonight I took my son and GF to another restaurant / beer tap. After waiting about 30 minutes and having to grab our own menus from behind the bar, we decided to go back to what we love.
Frank, the owner greeted us as he always does at the door. Instantly we were seated, our server, Nick immediately introduced himself, gave us menus, shared the nights special, got drinks, then took our order. Everything was flawless. Nick was attentive, very professional and polite.
Customer service in Cody is generally very poor relative to the rest of the country. It's a numbers game here and most restaurants can survive, and do well, because millions of visitors come through Cody on their way to Yellowstone. Cody Steak House is different, Frank and his wife set a tone and it's followed.
Do yourself a favor, if you want great food, nice atmosphere, exceptional service....go to Cody Steak House. If you want to wait until the end of time, be treated like cattle and desire a mediocre experience eat anywhere else in Cody, it doesn't matter, that's what you'll get.
Thank you Frank for another wonderful evening!
10/1/22 Had big post-season construction company dinner last night here. Big party, lots of drinks and food. Frank's crew handled everything flawlessly. Food was superb, customer service impeccable.

Read moreOk, so for a group of 8, with a reservation, they were very accommodating. Our waiter was very nice and kept the drinks filled. We didn't have to wait long at all for the salads that 2 of us ordered but had to wait a little bit for the appetizers and they got the order wrong. But rectified it quickly enough. We had the calamari and stuffed mushrooms. While I love both, they were very plain. No flavor at all. The calamari was rolled excessively in a corn flakes mixture and no spices for taste and the mushrooms were just stuffed with cornbread? stuffing I believe. The steaks were nice and tender and cooked well, the chicken marsala was tasty and the burgers were just "good" but the fries were tasty. The dinner meals of steaks and chicken had sides of pureéd carrots with cinnamon and some sort of liquid smoke soaked cabbage that was, ummm interesting. A bite or two was nice but after, you can't eat anymore. Overall, the food wasn't bad, it just wasn't something extra. Nothing on the menu stood out as exceptional in taste or presentation. The menu overall was kind of sparse. The chicken, pasta, seafood section was lacking in pasta dishes and the Salmon was so overpriced I passed on it. I will probably go back to try something else on the menu again but this won't be a regular restaurant for me to eat at. And for Cody, it was a bit over priced...
