As a mother who regularly visits my daughter in Cody from North Carolina, I’ve always enjoyed discovering new gear and learning about this unique and unfamiliar region through Sunlight Sports. On a recent trip, I was given a copy of Sunlit Trails, the trail guide written by the store’s owner and sold at Sunlight. I couldn’t imagine a better resource for exploring the area.
What stood out to me immediately was the introduction—it’s packed with local knowledge that you simply can’t get from a generic guidebook. The safety tips alone could be the difference between an unforgettable adventure and a serious mishap. I can’t stress this enough: read the introduction—it’s essential, especially for someone like me, an outdoorswoman from the East Coast, who isn't used to the unique challenges of this terrain.
I also appreciated how the book outlines trail difficulty, whether or not it is dog friendly, estimated time to complete each hike, and the best seasons to attempt them. Since I visit Cody at different times of the year, this information is incredibly useful. Even my daughter, who has lived here for 12 years, plans to buy her own copy because it’s so well-organized and easy to understand.
Sunlit Trails will be my go-to guide whenever I hike in the area. I especially love the checklist at the back—it’s a fun and practical way to track my...
Read moreWe just spent 10 days in Cody on vacation. We stopped in sunlight for some advice on local trails. The staff was more than willing to spend time finding out what kind of hikes we were looking for and gave us great advice. Mind you I told them right off I wasn't going to buy anything. During our ten day vacation we stopped in there probably four times to talk about different trails and great places to hike. Almost every time there was different employee but always just as enthusiastic and knowledgeable as the other. I did buy a few last minute camping supplies and found there prices to be competitive to any outdoor store. Best part was when I asked for advice the employee's never recommended the most expensive product. Bottom line, if you visit the area and plan on doing any camping or hiking you'll have a much better experience if you stop in at Sunlight. You'll get advice from people who hike and camp these places and giving you first hand...
Read moreHad a friend visiting from California. He wanted a shopping day, so off to Cody we went.
Since he was looking for athletic apparel, we started here & he was like a kid in a candy store. LOL...
He found 2 totally unique workout tees. Nothing he could find in Calif. His comment, not mine. Then we (he) spent even more time looking for a cap that matched the teal Tee, as well as a pair of running shoes.
I didn't think he would EVER find a pair that suited him, when the owner brought over a pair of blue (think "Elvis & Blue Suede Shoes") ones. He tried the on (think Cinderella's glass slipper), walked around in them & TADA he was finally ready to check out.
The owner was friendly, kept up a flowing conversation, without being in the way, and was very knowledgeable.
Found out they carry shoes for weird feet (mine). So will be back to find a good pair of walking shoes for myself.
HIGHLY...
