My wife and I were traveling through Cody, WY on Friday 04/08/2022. Our hotel listed Gasthaus Cardi on their app as one of the many places to eat in Cody. My wife and I thought it looked good and since it was a Friday evening, we made an online reservation for 6:30 pm. We arrived at the Gasthaus at 6:10 and we should have known then that we were in trouble. As we entered the restaurant, there were no lines of people waiting outside to be seated like the other restaurants in the area. There was only one other couple in the restaurant and we were seated across the isle from them. Our server brought water and a basket snack size pretzels that you would receive on an airplane along with a small container of Dijon mustard for dipping. Our server then proceeded to speak to the couple across the isle regarding their entre. The server asked them if they needed a couple of to go containers to take their leftovers home and they told the server no, because they couldn't eat the entree's because it was to salty and then they left. The server then proceeded to take our order. I ordered the Wild Game Bratwurst dinner and my wife ordered the Jagerschnitzel with Spaetzle and a side salad. When our order arrived, my wife cut into her Jagerschnitzel and found it to be raw under the coating. She returned it to the kitchen and was brought another order that was thoroughly cooked, but couldn't eat it because it was way to salty. My Bratwurst dinner was mediocre at best. We settled our bill and left and upon retuning to our hotel, my wife immediately became ill and spent the remainder of the night in the bathroom until morning. I should have read some of the prior reviews before choosing this restaurant and seen other guest complaints about the food being to salty and becoming ill after eating there. The price is very expensive for such poor quality food. With tip we paid $75.00 and became ill in the process. I think it might be time to make a complaint with the Wyoming Department of Health. Don't EAT at...
Read moreI read the reviews before I came out. I wished more people had said specifically what they had and what they liked. This is my small attempt at informing you.
The side dish of red pickled cabbage was SO good. The cabbage was tender and didn't have any sulfur flavor. It was vaugely sweet, like balsamic vinegrette. I loved it and wish I had a double helping. The brie appetizer with cranberries and crostini was a hit at the whole table, but I recommend a second dish of the crostini because the serving of the brie is LARGE and you will need more bread to spread it on. The buffalo braut was my favorite of the game sampler they had. I won't spill the beans, but the server told me more about how they were made and I was really impressed with the ingredients. The tartar sauce must have been house made because it was exceptional. So much better than anything you'll find at a store. I had it with their fries which were thick crunchy satisfying wedges. Very good. We had the apple strudel together as a table for dessert and the texture with the well baked nuts was wonderful. The whole table loved it.
It is true what the other reviews said about the potato salad being hit and miss. The flavor was great but the individual slices of potato in the salad were sometimes tender sometimes VERY firm. If you don't mind picking out big chunks that your fork doesn't penetrate (easy to do) the dish is enjoyable.
The place is run by a veteran, like mentioned by other reviews, and they offer service discounts to others that have served. I'm very impressed by their combination of patriotism and commitment to bringing an international flair to Cody.
Service was fast, genuinely friendly, and frequent (lots of quality checks). The owner/cook even came out to ask about the meal.
Go. You won't be disappointed. We...
Read moreHORRIBLE SERVICE- DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. I genuinely don't understand how this place is still open. I came in last Saturday excited for some German food. Walked in and there were only two tables sat in the whole restaurant. One of the servers rudely gave me the "hang on" finger and continued her conversation with one of the tables for another ten minutes, while I waited to be sat. She eventually came over and said "you could've sat yourself"- when there was no sign in sight stating to do so. Once I got to the table it took them another 20 minutes to take my order (keep in mind there are only two other tables sat in the place and 2 servers). Upon taking my order the server had no idea how to work the system and seemed to have never seen the menu before, and what's worse is I think he was one of the owners. More people start to trickle in and after a while food starts coming out.The servers are just going from table to table saying "did you order this?" Until the correct table for the food is found. After about 35 minutes of waiting for my food I notice tables who ordered After me were starting to get their food, which wasn't a problem as I figured maybe my food took longer to prepare. But after 45 minutes I asked one of the servers about the status to which she replied "I just don't understand german food but I'll ask" ok? She never updated me and I eventually had to knock on the kitchen door to be able to speak with anyone. The owner said once my food it started it should only take 5 minutes to make. At this point I'm thinking "what? It isn't started??" So I asked if my order was lost and they let me know it was. So after 45 minutes nobody noticed that maybe something was up or looked into it. I left still starving after waiting roughly an...
