I've lived in College Station for a few years now, and have eaten here a few times and while I was never overly impressed, it was always decent and back before favor took over, they delivered aggiefood and they usually were good.
So my surprise at the level of service, and absolute lack of food quality tonight was immeasurable.
The first thing we noticed was my guests order when her food showed up. The tamales were so burned that they could not be pierced with a fork, and when I literally cracked a end of them open like a pecan, it was hard as a rock all the way thru.
I told my friend they could eat my meal, and I'd send theirs back and get it fixed.
I had ordered the green enchiladas. I don't rightly know what they served me, but it wasn't a enchilada. The chicken in the middle was not properly cooked, and instead of pulled chicken, it was like nubs of the low quality meat you see in the bags of bulk packaged chicken, and was so overcooked it was like eating desert sand. Instead of serving a baked enchilada, they literally just made a burrito with a STALE tortilla and drowned it in green sauce and sour cream. The refried beans looked like the last bit scraped from the bottom of a pot that's been on the stove all day, I refused to try them... The rice was decent, but it might have just seemed so cause unlike the rest of the items it wasn't inedible.
The truth is, we understand mess ups happen, and atleast with the so called enchiladas, they weren't burned beyond recognition when served. The statement/question we got from the server pertaining to the Tamales was where any chance of understanding went out the door. When shown the tamales, we asked to be given some that weren't burnt. He told us that all the tamales got burnt but he could bring us another plate of them. Realizing this was not a accident, but that they knowingly served us inedible food pushed me to a point of anger that had me struggling to maintain my bearing...
This is where I suggested to my friend to eat my meal and we would just go to get a huge desert somewhere. Unfortunately that's when we realized how poor my dish was as well...
If I had cash I would have thrown around 5 bucks on the table to cover the two drinks(non alcoholic) and just left. When he came back we asked to pay and he kept asking if our food was good and tho I kept saying no, he kept asking, like we were obviously crazy.
Like I said, only a idiot thinks that perfection is possible. Everyonce in a while mess ups happen and you deal with it, usually the establishment fixes it(this generally results in a bigger tip cause it shows to me striving to have good customer service) but the way they handled the situation and the fact that they knowingly served food that wasn't even edible is unacceptable. Luckily they are only really known for cheap watered down margaritas and loud awkward karaoke, and those of you smart enough to heed my warning, won't miss this place.
Avoid at all costs, you'd be better going across the street to HEB and buying a...
Read moreI have eaten here many times before in the past and it was very good. That is obviously a thing of the past!! I had the worst restaurant experience there tonight that I have had in many years and my experience definitely warranted this review!
Full disclosure- we arrived 30-40 minutes before closing.
Food - horrible Staff - horrible Cleanliness- horrible
As soon as we walked in the door we should have left! The entire restaurant stunk like dirty bar mats and week old dirty mop water!!
The staff was very unwelcoming when we arrived and the waitress apparently had zero interest in serving us. Waited forever for drinks and had to ask for chips to be brought to the table!
Finally got to order an appetizer- Queso Flamado with beef fajita meat. ~ This was the first dish to arrive cold!! The cold fajita meat was placed on top of warm cheese. I brought this to the attention of the manager “Mario”…. Mario grabs a piece of meat with his hands and says it’s kinda warm and then eats the meat he picked up from my plate!! Remember, we’re talking about just served fajita meat!! The meat should be HOT!! Not cold, cool, or warm. The manager Mario decides to put our appetizer in the microwave to warm it up and bring it back!!
We finally get to order…. The food comes out wrong…. but we decided to just go ahead and eat.
Enchiladas ~ cold / soggy Rice - cold Tacos ~ cold / dry / and stale Tortillas for appetizer ~ cold / hard edges.
Everything about this meal was horrible!!!
The staff- horrible The food ~ horrible The stinky building ~ horrible
This is definitely not the place that it used to be! I will never eat hear again!! I think this place might have given me food poisoning tonight. Brazos County Health Department should definitely inspect this place!!!
SAVE YOUR MONEY, YOUR TIME, YOUR TASTEBUDS, AND YOUR HEALTH!!! DO NOT EAT AT THIS...
Read moreDaniel is a wonderful server (sole reason for extra star). It is not his fault that this place seems to intentionally serve the worst Tex Mex in the state. Readers may find that to be hyperbolic, but this food warrants hyperbole.
The shrimp cocktail was served with frozen shrimp—not just shrimp that “had been” frozen but shrimp that were in fact frozen.
The queso was a half-softened brick of lukewarm Velveeta. It was a graveyard of half-broken chips, not nearly strong enough to carve the into the solid cheese.
While I ordered the tortilla soup, I cannot say I “ate” it because it was more like “gnawing” on that leather-like, overcooked chicken. The broth left an awful taste in my mouth that lasted for hours.
I am no foodie and not a picky eater, but the food at this location was so bad, I imagined either (1) a saboteur had invaded the kitchen or (2) some reality show was filming some sort of prank showing our reaction. Sincerely, how could a Tex-Mex restaurant put out this food?
I don’t want to speculate on the cause, but the effects were obvious, even for me. I hope this review encourages the restaurant to do a little quality control so that it may be successful in the future. Daniel and the other folks who work there seem like really nice folks. I’d hate for them to pay for bad management.
I don’t know if this is the same family of restaurant as Los Cucos in Kingwood, but the Kingwood location is awesome every single time I go. I just don’t think I’ll return when going to...
