TLDR: The food is good, but overpriced. The place is clean and nice looking, but the service is poor and misleading.
Today my partner and I went to Salata to check it out. When I walked in, the guy behind the bar seemed friendly enough and asked if i wanted a big bowl or a small bowl. I explained that It was my first time going there and asked what they offer. He handed me a small menu with a list of salad options on one side and wraps on the other with each item containing the list of ingredients that it comes with. There were no prices listed anywhere on the menu. There was a sign on the wall that stated the price of a salad and a wrap. It said a wrap is $10.25 and he mentioned the wrap is really good so we picked the Mediterranean veggie wrap. We walked to the other end of the bar while he made the wrap. He came over and started checking us out when he was done. He said the total would be $15.37. I asked why it was more than the sign listed. He said it is because protein is extra and I ordered falafel. I was surprised to be charged more for ordering a standard wrap from the menu that i thought would be $10 instead of picking the individual toppings. (It made sense that protein would be more if I ordered extra). I told him there was no way of knowing that the falafel would be charged extra since it was in the middle of a list of ingredients with no indication of costing more. I also got the veggie wrap, so to see a protein upcharge was astounding. I told him I don't agree to pay that since the menu and the signs are misleading and don't suggest an upcharge. He begins some under handed sales tactics, first by saying he had to talk to his manager if the price can be changed (when clearly he is the manager since he was training a girl at the register) and then quickly switching tactics to saying he can't change the order once he put it in the system. 🙄 what do you mean. The system is probably just square, and I've used Square enough to know how easy it is to change an order that was rung up. At that point I just felt swindled and was about to walk out, but I was hungry and I did want to try the food before making judgments just on the service. I reluctantly agreed to pay and promptly left. The food tasted good but was kinda small, and was definitely not worth $15.
Edit: later I checked the prices through an online order and it does clearly state the prices of the base meals and all additional upcharges as separate selections. The in-store experience was just confusing...
Read moreFirst time and last time. My family visited this restaurant after a local sporting event at A&M University. We entered the restaurant, it appeared clean and it was not busy. Entering the serving line the server (Nayali) had the look on her face of frustration and disgust. Another server (no name tag) was sweeping behind the serving line and stopped sweeping to help. The second server also had a frustrated and disgusted look on her face.
We ordered regular bowls, about 3-4 quarts in size. They only give one tablespoon of each topping. My husband wanted mushrooms. The bowl was out of mushrooms and the server (Nayali) looked as if she didn't want to replenish the bowl. She reluctantly refilled it. My husband asked for extra chopped apples, onions, olives. The server (Nayali) rolled her eyes and let out a breath of frustration. My husband asked for extra Ranch. The server (Nayali) said it would cost extra. My husband said OK. She continued to look frustrated and turned her head to the left.
When I ordered the second server (no name tag) gave me the same facial response and service as Nayali gave to my husband. I was met with rolled eyes, forced exhalation, as if I was bothering her. My daughter was treated the same when she ordered. I ordered olive oil and lemon for my dressing. The first server (Nayali) tried to explain about the oil and lemon. I told her I wanted both. She (Nayali) rolled her eyes and began to pour (drench without stopping) olive oil on my salad. I asked to speak to a Supervisor. She rolled her eyes again and turned her head to direct me to the male supervisor working five feet from her.
My husband said we were done. We didn't want the food or the service, so we left. I don't know the cause of the employees frustration, or anger, but it should NEVER be taken out on the customer. Customers are not your burden. We will NOT return to...
Read moreI used to love this place and I came very often. I greatly agree workers should wear a face mask and gloves, especially on restaurants, but I can't stand the workers at this location. They constantly touch their face face masks and even their clothes while they touch the ingredients to prepare the salads. And the worst thing is that they do not change their gloves or wash their hands after doing it. There was a time I kindly asked a worker to change his gloves and he was rude and did not want to do it. We are facing times of Covid 19, other serious viral infections and diseases, and they do not understand the importance of not touching their face masks, or not changing their gloves while managing food. I have food allergies, and I highly avoid animal products. And I can't stand the employes touch animal products like meat, cheese, or eggs and then touch the vegetables I will eat. It is not that hard to change their gloves every time you touch different ingredients, or at least they can use the spoons and tongs that are on each ingredients section. Someone needs to do something about this issues I mentioned, they need to improve the sanitary measures, and encourage employes to follow them and serve...
