Edit: over the years much has improved at this location.
Still accurate. Still accurate. Still very popular place to grab a bite. 100/10 improvement. Reliable online ordering available 99% of the time! Still accurate. While it’s personal preference to not like corn tortillas, you still get less filling. Still accurate. Accurate. They still have mainstream sodas, but they have added flavored water. Still accurate. Service has been good (as expected), never subpar. Still accurate. Online ordering improved immensely. Makes for an easier experience. To combat busy-ness, I go at super random times during the day while school season is active. In the summer I can go whenever (even peak times) and it’s fine. Loudness—see previous two sentences.
I'll preface this, probably too extensive review, by saying that I love the food here 9/10 times. After eating here a couple of years now, here's what I've figured out.
This is tex-mex. Don't expect authenticity here and don't write a bad review because it isn't authentic Hispanic food. You've been warned if you read the reviews. Plus it's a chain. What do you expect, yknow?
It is almost always packed here. It is loud. When school is in session, lots of college students are here sometimes for extended periods and/or with large groups. They've lost my business multiple times because they were just too busy. Order online (if it's working; see #3) or over the phone and skip the line.
If you're someone who has a limited amount of social energy, note that sometimes the online order is not active. I haven't found a rhyme or reason, but it seems like it doesn't work when they're busy and have been busy for multiple consecutive hours. Again, they've lost my business multiple times for this.
Don't waste your time with the corn tortillas. They're gross and you get a smaller amount of filling for your taco without a decrease in price.
It is pretty expensive. I think it's worth it if I'm able to order online, skip the line to pick up, and go home in less than 10 minutes. If I can't do this, it's not worth it to me.
They recently switched to mainstream sodas (Dr. Pepper/Coke). Previously, they used "main root colas". If you're a mainstream soda drinker, this is good news for you. If you liked the root colas, this change will be tough for you.
I don't know about all the reviews citing bad service. It's very possible, I just haven't had bad service here before. They have gotten my order wrong once, and it was understandable how it happened. Now, if you order a different sauce than what your order comes with, double check that twice. They've gotten this wrong a number of occasions for me as I always get the diablo.
Diablo is the hottest sauce they have and it's my favorite, so note my bias. The spice hits you after a few bites. It's the little sniffle, breathe in through the mouth a couple of times spice, not the firey, eyes watering spice some may look for. After the meal is over, spiciness lingers for maybe 5-10 minutes, then you're back to normal. I'm not looking for a bunch of flavor to be added by the sauce though. From others, I've heard this sauce is spice and spice only, meaning no extra flavor. If you're looking for flavor and spice, maybe try something else.
Why did they lose 3 stars? Because of the busy-ness, the unreliability of the availability of online order (especially during the super busy times), and the loudness of the restaurant...

I walked into Torchy’s Tacos expecting a meal. I left questioning if I had just stumbled into something greater—a place where service is a superpower, tacos are crafted like works of art, and a man named KJ holds the gravitational pull of a celestial body.
The team was flawless. Every order taken with precision, every plate arriving as if it had been delivered by divine hands. They moved like a well-oiled machine, ensuring no glass sat empty, no guest felt overlooked. And at the bar? Mandy. A goddess of mixology, pouring drinks with the grace of an artist and the speed of a gunslinger. Her cocktails weren’t just drinks—they were spells, crafted to keep the night going and the laughter flowing.
And then there was KJ.
He didn’t just work the floor—he commanded it. He checked in at just the right moments, his voice smooth, his presence magnetic. The way he made eye contact? Dangerous. Was it the tacos making my heart race? The spice? No. It was him. His effortless charm, the way he smiled like he knew something I didn’t. When he asked if I needed anything else, I nearly blurted out, “Yeah, your number.”
Mandy’s drinks kept me there longer than I planned. The service made me feel like royalty. And KJ? Let’s just say when he threw me a casual “See you next time” as I left, I knew one thing for certain.
I would be back. Again. And again.

Read moreI’ve been to many Torchy’s locations and have been happy with the food and service each time. My recent experience with the College Station location was not as I expected. I ordered online (the online order menu needs some work) and when I arrived to curbside pick up the young man who was supposed to help was not paying attention and after I sat for about 10 minutes (while others were helped) I called the store. They told me someone would help me shortly......about 5 minutes later he finally asked if I had been helped then got my order. When I got to the house I discovered the order wasn’t right and called the store again. This time a manager answered and as I was talking to her the phone went on hold and I started hearing hold music. About 1 minute later she came back on the line and I asked why she put me on hold mid conversation. Her reply was that one of the employees was playing with the phone and accidentally did it. All of this to say, -The online menu is difficult to order with, I had forgotten to use the app which does work well. -The staff was not acting in a very professional way, which was disappointing when you place a $70 order and leave a nice tip as well. I expect better from Torchys and in the future will likely drive another 1/4 mile to...
