Porters is a wonderful steakhouse though it does have a limited menu. The food taste is right on point. But I find you need to pay attention to what comes with the meal and or size of meals. My wife and I went with our friends the day before Valentine’s Day to celebrate. The atmosphere was wonderful. The service is top notch and our waiter, Chris, made a truly wonderful experience even better. The only reason I gave it three stars instead of five stars was the food portion size and side item selections. My wife had ordered a seasonal plate, the tomahawk pork chop meal. The description makes it look like it comes with brussels sprouts, but apparently your vegetable side is whatever they happen to have. She ended up with asparagus and finger potatoes. The same side that everyone’s plate had. I was looking at the surf and turf meal, which is steak and lobster tail. But they had a special that was higher priced for a shareable. The other couple we were with was also looking at the surf and turf so we decided to get the shareable. Usually when you get a shareable meal it is a hefty portion. Not in this case! This was a moderate proportion that one person could’ve eaten them self and they literally brought it out on one plate, and the waiter then had to put it on to a separate plate at the table and give you only half of the side dishes and half the steak. But you did have your own lobster tail. I thought this was very tacky, kind of like when my parents go out to dinner and my mom can’t eat anything so they just asked for a second plate to share my dad‘s food. There was no additional portions that made this dinner a shareable in anyway other than the fact that you had a separate lobster tail. When I have gone to other restaurants and had a shareable meal you get hefty portions and it’s worth sharing. For example, Applebee’s two for $20. Porters is a much higher class restaurant then Applebee’s so I was expecting a better shareable since it was actually a special. needless to say I’d stay away from any “specials” they offer on a side menu. At $89 for the special I was disappointed. The overall taste of the food was wonderful. I would recommend porters for a enjoyable night out, but pay attention to what your sides are, and enjoy...
Read moreOverall service was great. The biggest issues I had was the food, price, and seating arrangement.
The table we were sat at was a corner booth. The table had a straight side and a rounded side. I sat on the rounded side which was pretty far from the table. This made din dining very uncomfortable. It really isn't clear why they have this configuration but the table was not the same size as the others in the section. So, I am guessing it was an extra table they had laying around that someone decides to put to use to torcher their guests.
But the bigger issue was my food. Baked potato needed another 15 minutes in the oven. There were actually crunchy parts due to how undercooked it was
My bone-in ribeye was not really edible. Mostly fat and grizzle that could not be cut through. This affected over half my streak. I decided to try to salvage what I could but the area that was better quality was very rare. For the price I could have had 2 much better steaks at any steakhouse chain.
They insisted on they could throw it back on the heat but couldn't do anything about the marbling because that is how ribeyes come. Which would be fine if that is what I had. But I informed them again that it was not edible and could not even be cut. So they swapped it out with a boneless ribeye.
The new steak was a much better cut and was cooked to the requested temperature. But overall, the flavor was not what I would expect from a place that claims to prepare steaks. Flavor profile was more like an oily auju with mineral sear. I would say the steak was probably worth $20. Not the $50 they were charging.
They apologized for the poor quality of the first steak and really wanted to make it right. So I greatly appreciate that. But just not a good...
Read morePosting my husband's review: Booked a reservation for our anniversary. I have been wanting to take my wife here for years and we were disappointed. We really tried to be optimistic about everything but overall - there's nothing here that we couldn't have got elsewhere, and at half the price. The seared ahi was the best thing we ate. It seemed fresh, tender, and so much flavor. I got the filet and my wife got the pepperloin. You couldn't tell much difference between the two. Both were made medium as requested but they were charred. The char (which was crispy and scratched the roof of my mouth) takes away from the flavor of the steak and it's such a shame because the steak and the filet were so tender and juicy. It was still good but it wasn't perfection like I was expecting for the price I was paying. Still, we're there for our anniversary and trying to have a good time so we ordered dessert. At this point we were the only ones in the restaurant which was amazing but then another couple came and for some reason the host sat the couple directly next/behind us. There were about 20+ empty tables and they were sat right next to us. What about social distancing? They shouldn't have been directly next to us but a table away at least. We did not share the same server so that also did not make sense. The dessert did not seem fresh. The banana foster bread pudding was crusty and tasted spoiled. The carrot cake tasted like a soured fruit cake. We couldn't finish either.
I'm sorry for the harsh review but I work hard for my money and wanted to take my wife out for a nice anniversary dinner. I expected the perfection I experienced years ago. It's not like that anymore and I don't think...
