We came in for a later dinner on a Tuesday night. We were welcomed by a woman and were told to sit where we pleased, as she tended to a bar full of patrons. We passed by a table that appeared to be patiently waiting for their food, as our entry was quicky followed by the arrival of a delivery driver. The woman waved him over the counter near the other entrance.
After seating ourselves, then seating ourselves elsewhere after changing our minds, we looked at the menu for a few moments before deciding that we had some questions that needed answering first before making the final decisions. We watched for about 5 minutes the lone woman checking in on tables, tending to a handful of delivery drivers, and making a few trips to the kitchen. She then gleefully introduced herself, asking if she could grab our drink order, before running back to the counter to tend to another delivery driver. After a brief wait, Nicole returned with our drinks, and then asked us if we were ready to order. When we informed her we had questions, she quickly spun around our unused seat and sat down, eager to answer. After a few minutes of conversing she took off again and informed her lone coworker in the kitchen of our order before returning to her still packed bar. As we waited for our order we couldn't help but notice their transitioning to retirement service dog Fritz occasionally poking his head around the corner to check on us (and our fuzzy service compatriot) and other patrons, before turning his attention back to Nicole and the man running the kitchen.
It didn't take too long to realize that the small delays were all well worth it, as our table quickly filled with food, starting with the arrival of a perfectly crafted stone oven pizza (we settled on the Mediterranean). Shortly after, the rest of order arrived, a pair of their signature bunzy's with a cheeseburger arriving first, followed by a country gravy smothered bacon breakfast bunzy. The bunzy's are an interesting creation, to say the least. Similar to a pasty, the bunzy's were loaded with different ingredients – the cheeseburger with a well done blend of seasoning, ground beef, cheese, and minced onion, and the bacon stuffed with home fried potatoes, egg, cheese, spices, and bacon (obviously). They differentiate from a pasty, however, as the buns themselves are lighter and flakier than a pasty that tends to be thicker and more well done. The cheeseburger paired perfectly with a beer and can be enjoyed like a traditional sandwich. The country gravy smothered breakfast bunzy, however, required some tools to enjoy. While are a variety of ways that you can smother the breakfast bunzy's, we decided on the country gravy, which had just the right amount of seasoning mixed into it, perfectly complementing the breakfast buffet that lay beneath it.
As we wrapped up our meal, Nicole returned again to see if we were interested in anything else, and with our eye already on the cookies, we decided on variety pack - frosted ginger, snickerdoodle with heath, and a sugar cookie. All three arrived at the table with the out of the oven warmth, and perfect amount of gooeyness. The snickerdoodle heath had just the right amount of crushed heath bar on top, with a perfect layer of cinnamon sugar clinging to the top of the cookie. The frosted ginger has an excellent zest and bite to it, the type of ginger that most places shy away from, and the frosting. The cookies were large enough to share, and loaded with flavor, and were not overbearingly sweet (unlike some other places that specialize in large “gourmet” cookies). The secret, according to Nicole, is her grandmother's recipes but with half the amount of sugar that they call for.
As we prepared to leave, we couldn't help but go over and say hi to the goodest boy Fritz,. After a brief meeting and some pets, we waved goodbye as Nicole and the man running the kitchen started to close up for the night.
Thanks again for the awesome service and dining experience, and hope to stop...
Read moreWhat a gem of a place off the beaten path in Colorado Springs. I read about them and was intrigued by a bunzy along with their pizza choices & Chimichangas. Fabulous place to check out, literally outside & inside. The food is delicious as we tried the bunzy and boy were we impressed, it's like eating a sandwich inside this outstanding bunzy. The Original Bunzy Ground Beef, Cabbage, Onion, Garlic & Spices. Green Chili Chicken Bunzy Chicken Breast, Green Chilies, Onion, Verde Sauce & Cheese. Now, of course, that's not all we ordered. The pizza choice was a White Hen ( chicken, onion, spinach, artichoke, mushrooms & mozzarella cheese) in a white sauce. Haven't chowed down on the pizza or Chimichangas yet, I'll get back to you. The staff was warm & welcoming and very nice to bring out a bowl of water for Skippy. They had some fantastic bunzy & booze clothing, too, aprons, hats, tshirts, women's shirts, bowling shirt's and more. Now I'm gonna miss this dynamite local restaurant/bar as I've never had such tasty & delicious bunzies, pizza and Chimichangas. Ok, now that I have tasted the chimichanga and pizza, let me tell you about them. First, the white Hen Pizza has a chewy yet crunchy tasty homemade crust, with a perfect tasting white sauce, just the right amount of mozzarella cheese not overly cheesy, then the chicken, spinach, artichoke and mushrooms make this one of the best pizza's I've ever had. Kudos to the owner, as I live on the infamous Italian hill in St. Louis and have never tasted such a delicious & scrumptious pizza. They have one size & it's perfect for two people. Now, that homemade chimichanga is the largest & best tasting one I've ever found, including any Mexican restaurant. There is plenty of meat, beans & Spices and it's so big that I made 3 meals out of it. Mind you, I didn't have mine smothered, but my sister did & said she could eat the green chili sauce with a spoon it was that good. Me I like to taste all the meat, beans, and spices along with the perfect shell crunchy yet not thick like most places. If you want to warm any if these up, don't use a microwave. Please, if you want the original flavor, use an oven at 300 degrees. It only takes a little time & keeps the flavor as if you just got it fresh. Colorado & tourists, if you haven't tried this place, you're missing out on one hell of a fantastic restaurant, no kidding big time. Their menu has so many damn good choices it's unreal, get your butt down their & support this fabulous locally-owned business & keep it in business!! Support your locally-owned businesses so they remain in your communities as this place definitely a huge hit with me. Check out...
Read moreI don't throw 5 stars around very often, but I don't even think I had a choice in this case. B&B's Bunzy's and Booze is a unique experience with great service, great atmosphere and even greater food.
I went on a more "tame" night, on a Monday, and sat at the bar. The cocktail menu, spirits menu, beer menu and wine menu are all diverse enough to satisfy almost any patron.
I ordered the Loaded Pizza, which is an extremely unique flavor profile, not only for its plethora of toppings that a good majority of people usually enjoy (Sausage, Pepperoni, Ground Beef, Onion, Bell Pepper, Mushroom, Black Olives, Mozzarella cheese), but the sauce is a hybrid between red and white sauce, called B&B sauce, giving such a memorable taste to the pizza. It in itself is enough to go back for.
But I also ordered a Bunzy. This a unique, calzone-like option that has Ground Beef, Cabbage, Onion, Garlic and spices. Traditionally, you would eat it with a bit of mustard according to the phenomenal bartender, Nicole, so naturally I had to try that. It was overall a really fun experience and can't wait to go back to try out other options, and see what a truly lively crowd the place can host, say on a Friday or Saturday night!
Speaking of the phenomenal bartender, I can't think of a time in recent history that I genuinely felt I had received such genuinely amazing customer service. Her care, consideration and pride in her work shine through in her character. Its practically impossible to leave without a smile on my face! 10/10
Edit: I went again for the 2nd night in a row, and the experience was equal to and even surpassable to the first. I ordered the same food, but tried several other options as well, including the Green Chili Fries. Also such a good option. They are really gravy heavy, so if that's your thing, eating loaded fries with a fork and knife, you can't go wrong here.
I also tried the home made cookies served here, and I am telling you there's nothing else like B&B's Bunzy in town. I am so bummed I found this place so close to having to leave the area, but I'm going to do my absolute best to spread the word as much as I can before I leave to give it as much business as I can in my absence.
B&Bs Bunzys is amongst the best places to be in the entire Colorado...
