October 30, 2025 I sent this comment to the Owners Today: Dear owners, I know you likely get quite a few complaints, but I want to extend compliments instead. I am about a once a week visitor at your 1340 W. Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs restaurant. It's exactly like having a home cooked meal when I visit, and I always leave with a smile because of the ambiance, the cheerful and professional waiters, and of course because the meals are so darn tasty and big. The exceptional customer service brings me back every time, just like today when I was served by the best in the west - Elisia S. She truly exhibits that she knows all the owners' credos, and Elisa practices them well. I'm always impressed with the service she renders, and can only say: 5 Stars and 5 Thumbs Up to this restaurant and its staff. It's always great to be able to pass on a compliment. Not to mention a great new Fried Chicken meal, and we always love the fresh made orange juice. Looking forward to 30 more great years with Black Bear Diner.
NEW REVIEW September 2025 Great service and huge portions. Best breakfast ever - had Eggs Benedict and it was awesome. Always fresh squeezed orange juice too! 5 Stars and 5 Thumbs Up again.
September 2024 5 Thumbs up again for awesome pancakes, eggs, and expertly prepared diced potatoes with sauteed onions and peppers. Unfortunately the smaller chicken fried steak was not edible beyond 2 bites as it had a bad taste and appeared undercooked. The gravy it was covered with was fine, but the CF steak was not up to Black Bear Diner standards. My waitress, Isai, was gracious enough to reduce my final bill by $5 without me even asking. They do honor their slogan for making sure customers are satisfied. I sure was!
June 2024 We never thought we would be sittng down next to a bear for a great breakfast! The Volcano is a bomb of a big, delicious breakfast meal. 5 Thumbs Up again for great customer service and great food.
Easter Sunday 2024 Amazing fast and friendly service for our family. Huge portions and always delicious with a morning Mimosa! 5 Thumbs Up!
AMAZING THANKSGIVING DAY MEALS - 5 Stars I couldn't wait to do this review. Family of 3 did our 1st time ever Turkey and prime rib Thanksgiving meals at the local Black Bear Diner on Garden of the Gods Rd. I can only say we were blown away by the quality and quantity of all the food, as well as the exceptional customer service. What a treat and enough to take home for sandwiches as well. The prime rib cut was cooked perfectly and about an inch or more thick! OMG, our Go To place from now on for Turkey Day meals. The turkey was moist, thick, and never a knife needed. We used to do Boston Market - never again. Black Bear is the Best - and you can get your meals to go if you wish. So here it is:
Noon to close: Prime Rib Dinner- Choice of soup or salad, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, Italian green beans, corn bread muffin and a mini dessert $14.99 Or: Traditional Turkey Dinner- Choice of soup or salad, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, Italian green beans, corn bread muffin and a mini dessert $12.99
Another visit on August 29, 2021 and a great delicious huge breakfast with exceptional service from Staff. Compliments to the cooks as well. A fairly long wait after we ordered because they and everyone else are short staffed. 5 Thumbs Up!

The Black Bear Diner in Colorado Springs, located near the Garden of the Gods, offers a rustic, cabin-like atmosphere that's perfect for a casual meal. The menu is extensive, with classic American comfort food options ranging from breakfast to dinner.
California Bacon Benedict: This dish was a delightful twist on the traditional Eggs Benedict. The English muffins were toasted perfectly, and the poached eggs were cooked to a soft, runny yolk. The Hollandaise sauce was rich and flavorful, complementing the salty bacon and creamy avocado. The spinach and grilled tomato added a fresh touch, while the side of fruit provided a sweet contrast. Overall, it was a satisfying and well-balanced dish.
Turkey Club: This sandwich was a bit of a letdown. While the ingredients were fresh, the triple-decker construction made it difficult to eat, and the flavors didn't quite come together. The roasted turkey was a bit dry, and the bacon and ham overpowered the other fillings. The bread was a good choice, but the overall experience was underwhelming.
Service: The service was friendly and attentive, with our server checking in regularly to refill drinks and ensure everything was to our liking.
Overall: The Black Bear Diner offers a comfortable atmosphere and hearty portions. The California Bacon Benedict was a definite highlight, but the Turkey Club left something to be desired. If you're looking for a solid breakfast or brunch option with generous servings, this is a decent choice, but there might be better options for...
Read moreElisia was our server during our visit to Black Bear Diner. We came for our niece's birthday brunch, as it was her choice, and we had been here last year.
However, it had been six years since we last visited this location. I ordered the chicken fried steak and iced tea, and it came with green beans as the side, which was a bit underwhelming as I expected more variety.
My wife ordered the cinnamon hot chocolate and the Bear's Choice, while our niece had the kids pancake breakfast with a milkshake. Unfortunately, the chicken sausage that came with the Bear's Choice didn't impress my wife, and the "fresh fruit" turned out to be strawberries, which was an issue as she's allergic to them.
The service was prompt despite the restaurant being quite busy, and the staff were efficient at resetting tables. However, they were a bit too quick, and I was missing a fork while my niece lacked a complete set of silverware. Additionally, my wife's water cup was dirty.
Service was friendly but could have been more attentive; they didn't check on us after we received our food, which made us wait for assistance to get silverware.
On the bright side, the food was delicious, and the restaurant's unique rustic theme with wood carvings, posts, and benches created a cozy atmosphere. However, it was a bit chilly, and there was a draft from the vent above, prompting me to put on a jacket, which others also seemed to do.
A manager made the rounds to check on things, but my mouth was full, so my wife handled the...
