DO NOT GET CATERING FROM THIS PLACE.
I chose this place to support small business and it has good reviews, this was not my experience. When I first called to get a catering quote the owner was rude and seemed flustered. I thought about it and called back later and asked if they preferred not to do catering? The kid on the phone and said oh “Jerry the owner is rude he is just like that” I should’ve stopped there but i didn’t and all other communications were normal not nice but normal and acceptable. I waited for a quote for a week but when I called back he said it wasn’t done yet but we could do it over the phone right then. We worked up a quote over the phone together and I asked for food for 30 even though our guest list was only 25 so we would have extra. I also ASKED EVERY TIME WE TALKED that he would bring the food hot. He assured me multiple times that he would and that he had an oven in his van. I paid half over the phone and I SENT HIM a confirmation email since he couldn’t figure my email address? I sent him an email confirming the food we wanted and the details of everything and I paid half to reserve the date. He asked I call him the day before the wedding but instead I called the week before the wedding to just go ahead and pay the other half and to touch base. When I called they gave the phone to jerry and he HAD NO IDEA AND NO RECORD OF ANYTHING. He pretended to remember me but I went over everything in detail AGAIN WITH HIM so everything would be correct. I asked again that the food would be hot and he said yes and that he would mix the alfredo on site for us so it wouldn’t be gummy I told him delivery at 7:00. I also went to the store to the day before the wedding to pick up a meat and cheese tray (which they did a great job on) I paid the rest of my balance and told him again delivery at 7 and asked again that it would Be hot.
DAY OF he showed up 30 minutes early with COLD FOOD EVERYTHING WAS COLD. He told my sister who received the food that it was hot even though it wasn’t and even mentioned his oven in his truck to her again? Also for some reason he brought three huge things of salad and make a comment to my sister that I ordered too much? I didn’t have anything to do with the quantity ordering he had full control and I overquoted him on the amount of people so we would have extra. Half of my wedding party had to rush into the house and try to heat up all the food so we could eat it was ICE COLD even after time in the oven and we RAN OUT OF EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! THE RAVIOLI ran out Halfway through people getting their food. We had to order pizzas and some people didn’t eat at all until 9. I have no idea why he would LIE TO ME ABOUT HOT FOOD MULTIPLE TIMES AND LIE TO MY SISTERS FACE. AND HE DIDNT HELP SET UP OR PUT ANYTHING TOGETHER. Just dropped off cold food early and with an attitude and left. Worthless steer clear of this place...
Read moreOur first visit to Mollica's. The staff was friendly and responsive. The food options ranged from build your own pizza, to hearty Italian sandwiches to traditional American sandwiches and delicious entrees featuring pastas, sauces and chicken, beef, sausages, ...I don't recall any seafood on the menu other than a tuna sandwich, but then I wasn't looking for seafood. While they have seating and tables for eating in, you do need to order your meal at the counter. The staff will bring your selections out to you,, though you do need to get your own drinks. I opted for ice tea and was delighted to get a glass of what appeared to be freshly brewed tea (unsweetened, yes please) from their dispenser. So many dispensed teas are made using powdered tea mix, which just doesn't taste as good as brewed tea. Of course Mollica's may simply have really great water and they get the mix to water ratio right. We ordered the half grilled chicken Alfredo for me; my husband got the special Griller sandwich of the day --Hot and spicy-- and an order of garlic bread. The garlic bread was delicious, not too greasy, and the marinara dipping sauce that came with the bread was delicious. My chicken alfredo fettuccine was enveloped in a rich creamy sauce that delighted the tongue. The sausage in my husband's grller had a distinctive meaty taste that only a good italian sausage can provide. The same marinara sauce that complemented the garlic bread was there to enhance the griller if desired. The servings were generous...after the garlic bread and my crisp house salad, we both realized we'd have to take most of our meals home. We simply could not eat all we ordered. We considered getting one or two of the tempting desserts displayed to go, but decided that perhaps we would do a dessert only visit at another time. My only complaint... while Mollica's does sell some fresh and stock Italian pantry items -- pasta, sauces, cheeses, sausages, assorted cold cuts and other meats, I had hoped for a larger store specializing in Italian fare versus it being mostly a restaurant/deli. I guess I was spoiled by a store I visited in one of the warehouse districts of Washington DC, a place that didn't look like much from the outside, but inside...Italian marketplace and deli wonderland complete with the little old Italian guys behind the Deli counter making takeout sandwiches to order. No place to sit... but oh the food options.... I was hoping Mollica's would be similar to that place. I plan on going back there , and would recommend it to others looking for tasty...
Read moreThis place is really solid. They have a large menu, and everything I have tried is pretty decent. While not in the top tier of restaurants, it is right below them and is a legitimate choice if you are looking for good food.
For a deli, this place has really good pizza. Out of everything I have tried, I liked the house made sausage as the best pizza topping. It has a more mellow flavor; I have tried house made sausages before where they put a bunch of spices in and the sausage has a very strong flavor. Mollica's does it right. The cheese is really good (which it should be as this place is a deli) and almost has a buttery flavor to it. The pizza crust is on the thinner side of medium. I enjoy the crust as it is always slightly crunchy but still fluffy. I think they put herbs in the dough too to give it extra flavor. Also, it is the only place I know of in Colorado Springs other than a gas station where you can get pizza at 9am.
The southwest chicken tortilla soup was almost like red chili. I thought it was really good..light spiciness and very chunky. The minestrone soup is all vegetables, also very chunky with no spiciness. It wasn't bad but I didn't like it as much compared to the southwest chicken soup. The smoky butternut squash soup is also pretty good. I am not 100% sure but I think they put small pieces of bacon in it.
The meat penne is my favorite pasta entree, although you can't go wrong with any of them. The 4 cheese ravioli cheese is super creamy. The lasagna is good, but I would pick the pizza over it any day (had a coworker tell me the lasagna was the best thing on the menu. I respectfully disagree but you should try it for yourself and form your own opinion). The bread that comes with these entrees is ok; in my opinion nothing special. It's a little tough on the outside although with the butter they give you it tastes pretty decent.
For the grilled cheese sandwich, the slices of bread they use are huge and the side that comes with it is pretty good too. Overall, it is not bad especially for the price. I would say most restaurants I have tried grilled cheese sandwiches at are rip-offs because you are paying $8-10 for essentially a kid's snack, but Mollica's hooks you up.
If you are looking for dessert, I would go with the tiramisu or strawberry cheesecake. The cannoli is pretty good too, but I have yet to find a cannoli that stands out. Mollica's sells a pretty generic cannoli, but I think their tiramisu and strawberry cheesecake are above average in comparison to other...
