A man down on his luck, with a hole in his stomach and $9.47 in his pocket EXACTLY, stumbles into this very Pei Wei. Weary and with hunger down to his very bones, he orders a Teriyaki Chicken dinner. Chomping at the bit, like the horse he felt he could have eaten, he waited for his meal to arrive at his table. One minute passes, two minutes pass, three minutes pass and my food arrives. (Side note: I made that seem like it was a long time, three minutes is not very long. Calm down. Now return to the edge of your seat for the thrilling conclusion.)
My hot food arrives in front of me as steam rises to my nostrils. I could eyeball that it was too hot, but I couldn't wait; for I hadn't eaten for twelve years. I drove my fork into the rice as if I was stabbing my worst enemy. I raise the steaming hot food to my lips and eat the bite with vigor and desperation. As I burn my mouth (Not Pei Wei's fault, I blame my hunger) I chew with tears in my eyes; both tears of pain searing the inside of my mouth and tears of joy.
The flavors were a celebration in my mouth, with the teriyaki sauce and brown rice mixed with the chicken all acting as friends from long ago. I sat there, smiling and looking people in the eyes. I bothered their meals with the enjoyment of mine. I am a sociopath, but I can feel joy in my heart for the first time since Beverly passed. This Pei Wei bowl wasn't just a simple meal, it was an eye-opening experience that I had only once had before: the birth of my second child. (My first child turned out to be kind of a loser. Druggie, burnout, and got a C+ in Algebra 1.)
I recommend Pei Wei to anyone down on their luck, sad or maybe even just having a grey day and needing a pick me up. Pei Wei changed my life, and I'm sure it will do the...
Read moreWell l have never been disappointed with Pei Wei in all the years I've eaten there. My favorite dish has always been the Pai Thai every since l tried it in Denver years ago. Along with the lettuce wraps. I have taken many, many people to Pei Wei for lunch and dinner without any complaints. Until now.......
My Pai Thai tasted nothing close to the normal range of what it should. I asked for extra sauce for it thinking it could improve the taste. I wad wrong. It tasted like straight vinegar. It was awful. I asked for another sauce hoping there was a mistake with the first one. Nope, same awful stuff.
Clearly the Chiefs did not know how to make this dish or did not care what they were serving. Or only other thing we could think of was maybe new owners and they were cutting back on ingredients like peanuts which wasn't present in my dish. Either way the dish was horrible.
Unfortunately for you and l - it will be my last order their. I have another place that is much closer and serves a pretty decent Pai Thai dish. They also don't talk loud enough for paying customers to hear them gripe about making sauce over again.
This will be the last time I travel all the way across town on Academy to Pei Wei to spend 30 something dollars for lunches for my friend and myself. I can get bad food and insults much closer to home if l...
Read moreI have been coming to this Pei Wei since it’s opened. We came here today and with 1/2 capacity the tables were all full. In the past we were told to wait in line and when your table is ready you can order. Today a family came in and went and sat directly down. When we complained that we always had to wait for a table to order we were told that isn’t the policy. Just 2 weeks ago it was. So while a family held on to a table waiting for the rest of their party we were left with no were to sit. The flip flopping of policy has me seeing red. To top it of the woman taking the order was so rude it was horrible. She wouldn’t even hand me out drink cups she took my money and walked away. This was after she lied and told me she was a manager. The manager Joey seemed clueless on any kind of rules that we had always been told. The whole thing left me sick to my stomach and I’m pretty sure it will be the last time I will ever come here. 4 family’s in line actually walked out because they felt the same way. They need to get their rules straight and a lesson on how to treat people. So if you want to go sit and enjoy a good meal this is not the...
