I waited a little bit to post this review because I wanted to really think about my overall experience before posting it. I gave it 2 stars because I decided to celebrate our anniversary here, instead of a few other places that were on my list to go, and the night ended in disappointment and frustration. I made reservations for Saturday 9/4/2021 at 7:30pm and the beginning of our evening started off good, we got seated right away which was awesome. The gentleman that sat us also brought us out 2 glasses of champagne since we were celebrating our anniversary. I also highly recommend trying one of their cocktails, this was probably the highlight of our evening along with the Tuna Poke. I ordered the Always Point North cocktail and it was very good! We also started out ordering the Portabella Fries and quickly found out that they were actual mushroom fries which was our fault, we should have read the menu better. My boyfriend does not like mushrooms, so we explained our embarrassing situation to our waitress and said we would like to replace that dish with the Tuna Poke. I recommend the Tuna Poke, it was very good! Unfortunately this is where our night went downhill. He ordered the Yampa Valley New York Strip and I ordered the Grilled Trout. Before our main dishes came out, I also ordered another glass of wine. Our main dishes came out and everything looked great. However, his steak was so hard to cut through, he was shaking the whole table trying! Yes, he was cutting against the grain and he also ordered it medium rare so it should not have been that hard to cut. It was just a very bad cut of meat, and there was a pretty big tendon that went through a good portion of it as well. It was definitely not worth the $42 price point. I know we should have said something about the steak but we were already very embarrassed about the mushroom fries so we decided not to send the steak back. My grilled trout was okay, but the ratio of trout to the succotash was not great. Too much succotash. And the glass of wine I ordered BEFORE our main dishes came out did not come until I was half way through my dinner.... We decided not to order any dessert because at that point I was so frustrated and disheartened because our anniversary dinner was not what I expected it to be. When our check came and I was looking over it, I noticed that the Yampa Valley New York Strip Steak we ordered was actually just a skirt steak, which made me even more frustrated because they sell it as a better cut of meat than it actually is. The one good thing was that our waitress was kind enough to take off the order of the Portabella Fries, but we ordered another dish to replace that exact priced item anyway so it was kind of a wash. Overall, I was very disappointed with this experience. I was very much looking forward to eating here because I used to frequent that same location when it used to be Bistro C.V. and I was hoping this restaurant would be to that level of greatness, but it was not. We ended up paying quite a bit of money only to be let down and wishing that I had chose another location to spend that much money at. I know this restaurant has many good reviews, so I am a firm believer in still trying a place for the first time regardless so go ahead and try it out solely on that alone. Unfortunately though, based on my first experience here, I will not be...
Read moreTable 79 - in Steamboat, CO is considered to be one of the nicer dining establishments in Steamboat. We had a lovely dinner, but I can’t say we were WOW’d by anything, in terms of a “we must come back” but we also didn’t try the two top sellers recommended to us: portobello fries and the brussel sprouts. Our appetizers were delicious, however, and we very much enjoyed our dinner! Service was top notch, and the ambience was quaint.
We started with the Prince Edward Island Mussels and Heirloom Tomato & Burrata Salad. The mussels were cooked in a creamy, white wine sauce and stewed with leeks, shallots and garlic.
The tomato & burrata salad was good, tomatoes were not the best but I love me some burrata cheese. And a little roasted red pepper rouille, yes please! Gave it just a nice ‘lil kick, yummy! The balsamic was a beautiful touch to this app.
Korean Short Rib: ok let’s talk about this one. When I hear Korean Short Rib” I think Kal-bi. So I’m thinking Kal-bi with kimchi friend rice, plus a poached egg, and I’m sold. Nothing else will top that dish option, in my mind! I was sad to see it come out as NOT Kal-bi. In fact, there wasn’t anything Korean about the short rib meat. Kimchi fried rice was good, I loved the larger leaf kimchi and the kimchi was slightly sour, which is exactly how kimchi should be if it’s cooked into any dish. The pickled cucumbers and onions were a nice touch. Personally, the meat could’ve used a side of gochujang, and they might have helped “Korean” this up a smidge. I’m still shedding tears over this one, but perhaps a name change or more menu clarity would help us Asians out when ordering!
Classic Cheeseburger: we wouldn’t normally order a burger, over the other options on a menu, but it was strongly advised to us as a restaurant staple. No matter how many times they update their menu (seasonally), the Classic Burger remains. And we can see why! It’s a steak burger, not a smash, and so tender and juicy! The homemade pickles are an awesome touch; same as the ones with the fried rice, but delicious. I love a good housemade pickle! Only negative here would be the mega steak fries, they were so so. A cross between country potatoes and a steak fry, they weren’t that good. This would be an A+ burger with better fries, IMO.
We will definitely be back but, next time, we must try the brussel sprouts and...
Read moreLet me start by saying that my experience may be different than an everyday experience here since we dined on New Years Eve. My fiancé booked us a table for the night and we looked forward to it.
The restaurant has a nice ambiance and it was nice to get our coats taken at the door and a glass of champagne upon seating.
We knew it was a preset menu but had no idea there were no options for half of the courses.
First course - there were two options and we got both to try. However, we each got one bite and it was the most bland tasting appetizers I’ve ever had. This is when we ordered another round of drinks and didn’t receive them until after the third course was finished.
Second course - a salad. No options. This is the set course here. I think I could’ve made a better salad if I was standing at a salad bar. There was no dressing, no flavor. This was also maybe four bites total.
Third course - we thought there’s no way this will be bad. At $115 per person, the steak and sea bass will be amazing. The steak was such a low quality cut and couldn’t have been more than 5 oz. The mushrooms were good! The sea bass was so bland.
Fourth course - there was no options here. Just crème brûlée. This took much longer than the other courses as our server said the chefs were putting special work into this. There was literally two spoonfuls of dessert. This was not good crème brûlée either. I’d give it a 5/10 like every other thing I tried here.
We did say something to the server and he was apologetic and seemed to take ownership of a situation that was not his fault. But $400 for a snack was unacceptable for the lack of flavor and lack of service for this price point. We planned to go out after this meal but ended up having to go to another restaurant to eat an ENTIRE meal before continuing with our evening. I know we weren’t the only ones thinking this because I could see the looks on everyone’s faces around us in the restaurant. Based on the reviews, hopefully this place is better any other time but this was honestly the worst restaurant experience I’ve...
