It was late at night, just before the kitchen closed, and weren't sure they'd even take us, but they welcomed us with open arms. It was mud season, so fairly dead in town, but this place was still busy with patrons enjoying their evening. The vibe and decor is inviting and instantly gets you in the mood for diving in!
We were sat and water arrived instantly. We were given time to look over the menu before the waitress arrived for our drink order, which we could have went ahead and just placed our order, but we weren't rushed and enjoyed the time to relax after a long drive.
The menu is simple, which is different from what you find at most Mexican style restaurants, but I appreciated the simplicity... get to the point and show me the goods! We ordered the special of 2 tacos and street corn with the bean dip appetizer (charro beans and queso), and I got a margarita (or two).
The bean dip was delicious! I haven't found charro beans in Colorado at a restaurant before. I've only ever found charro beans in the South (when I ask for charro beans in Colorado, most restaurants look at you confused). When I saw those on the menu, we knew we had to have them and the bean dip did not disappoint.
We chose 4 different tacos so we could try a variety, and we were not disappointed. One review said the food was mediocre... um, maybe if you grew up on mediocre Mexican food. 😅I told our waitress, "I grew up in the South and haven't had the flavor of Tex-Mex in a while. This is on point!" She said, "I'm from Mexico and this food is the closest I've tasted to that flavor too. I recommend this place to everyone, and it's not just because I work here."
To the reviewer that said this place is mediocre, not authentic, shouldn't be called a Mexican restaurant, the staff was annoyed, and that it's overpriced. I'd hate to see what you call good food and service. 😶🌫️
I'm a first time eater at this restaurant. Our order came to $75 - we shared a queso appetizer, each had 2 tacos with a side of street corn, and I had 2 margaritas. That's a normal price that I'd expect to pay anywhere... it's a killer deal in a ski resort town. The decor and cleanliness is on point. Our server was on top of her game.
The entire experience will have us returning the next time we come through town. Loved it and let us know if you ever wanna head to Grand County to open a...
Read morePerched in the picturesque setting of Steamboat Springs, Salt and Lime is a revelation to those of us who hail from Los Angeles, a city celebrated for its vibrant taco culture. This eatery, however, introduces a unique blend of familiar flavors with a Rocky Mountain twist.
Starting off with the queso fundido, it was reminiscent of delightful cheese experiences from Austin – a gooey, rich indulgence that sets the tone for the culinary journey ahead. For those with a hearty appetite, the fully loaded quesadilla is a must-try. Its generous size and ample fillings make it an ideal choice for those looking to truly satiate their hunger.
As someone who has savored the best of LA’s taco scene, I was pleasantly surprised by the eclectic range here. The Steak Popper taco, a gem from their seasonal menu, was a personal favorite, rivaled closely by the Camarunés Frito taco and the deeply flavorful Colorado Bison. This bison preparation, with hints of chili, cumin, garlic, and a generous sprinkle of paprika, seemed like an elevated tribute to the seasoned beef tacos I’ve relished back home.
The margaritas, too, were a delightful surprise. I opted for a seasonal concoction that seamlessly blended the tropical notes of POG and pineapple with the classic margarita essence. While it was a refreshing accompaniment to the spicy tacos, I found myself yearning for a spicier drink variant to complement the fiery flavors.
And then there’s the ambiance – the second-floor seating area offers a serene vantage point to take in the beauty of Steamboat Springs, adding to the overall dining experience. It’s a space that invites relaxation, a perfect setting to savor every bite and sip.
To sum it up, Salt and Lime in Steamboat Springs is where Californian taco nostalgia meets Colorado innovation. A must-visit for anyone craving a fresh perspective on a classic favorite.
I hope this revised review better captures the desired...
Read moreI have been to Salt and Lime a number of times, it is an establishment I look forward to visiting every time I come to Steamboat. This winter was no different, on my annual ski trip out West I was excited to visit the establishment. The food, as always, was good and was what I was expecting and looking forward to. However, our waiter Eliel was INCREDIBLY rude. I have never had worse service in my life. He took our order, was standoffish that we didn’t order alcoholic beverages or appetizers, and only checked back with us one other time during our time in the establishment. This is not at all what I have a problem with, maybe he was busy and didn’t have the time to come back. What I have an issue with is the fact that after our dinner, as we were leaving, he made a point to come back to our table to berate us about the tip we gave him. How comfortable he was openly pushing us to give him a larger tip makes me wonder whether he does this often. I have never been so affronted by wait staff, it was the rudest dining experience I have ever had. It was also the longest amount of time he spent at our table the entire night. Tipped employees make $15 in Colorado, which is awesome because they deserve a livable wage, and while that is not enough it is still more than other states provide. We gave a 15% tip which I thought fair given the service we received. At its core, tipping is at the discretion of the customer, as it is a direct reflection of the service provided. To be yelled at and scolded for the amount of tip I provided is beyond fathomable and should never happen. If you aren’t happy with your tip maybe consider how you can provide a better service to your customers. Needless to say I will never be coming back here again, and neither should anyone else. Go to Talay Thai or Aprés burger bistro instead, both are fantastic...
