Denny's — Restaurant in Columbia

We had dinner there tonight 03-09-19, for of us in our family, which includes to young boys. We were greated and seated right away. We were slightly hesitant to stop, as everything on Saturday night on Harbison Road was packed at dinner time, and this Denny's was almost empty.

Jess was our waitress, and was very prompt, courteous and friendly. After moving from one table to another to get our boys settled, our orders were promptly taken. My ten year old loves pancakes with peanut butter, and was told peanut butter was available. It wasn't. But this certainly isn't negative! When Jess returned to tell us they don't carry it anymore, she volunteered that her manager ran to the store to get some! This level of customer service is almost unheard of now-a-days! Certainly made my son happy when Jess returned to the table with it!

The food was good, and not surprisingly, there were no mistakes with the order. It is Denny's, so there was an overall taste of the grill on everything, but there was almost no food on anyone's plate.

This obviously looked to be an older store, and it looked like it could use a good remodeling. Very friendly staff, but they also seemed very shorthanded. Some of the tables could use a good cleaning.

Not saying any of this to be negative. My way of hopefully corporate seeing this, and giving this location a much needed boost! It's obvious this good staff was doing the best they could with what they had to work with.

But again, was so tickled with how the manager went out of his way, and the amazing service from Jess. We're not in Columbia much, but we know where to eat when we do.

This was a disappointment. Dennys has been one of my favorite, no fail places I goto when Im traveling or just dont wamt the normal fast food. Tonight was a train wreck from the time I walked in. I was greated and told to go sit in the corner, as if I was in trouble. Waitress came over and took our order. Food came out in waves leaving some eating without food and some eating once others were finished (party of 4 btw). My son ordered a sampler and when it came out, in pieces, it was incorrect. When I brought it up to the waitress she responded with, " hats not what I was told" when it was very clear what was ordered. Simple, tenders and chips. Next my wife ordered the Philly, just meat and cheese. Smh, it came out with everuthing still on it and again, when brought up to the waitress, it was a debate on who was right. They "remade" it and the chunks of steak seemed to have gravy on it. The bread had was garlic bread that was drenched in butter and garlic. Next was my meal. I ordered the country fried steak. Steak might have been warm except the cooks decided to put a HUGE glob of cold gravy on it making everything cold. It was also unedible, kind of. I scrapped the gravy off and choked down about 1/2 the steak. My Daughters seemed to be fine. This wasnt me being picky by anymeans. The table behind me up and walked out cause the waitress blew them off. Offered drinks and never returned with them. I now understand why there was almost no one in the restaurant on a Saturday night during dinner rush. Such a shame. Also should note that the bathrooms were dirty enough to make you wonder what third world disease your about to pick up....

I typically don't share about places unless they are really amazing or really bad, but last night was too much for me not to share. Upon arrival we were told that there was one waitress. We said ok and waited. We waited 30 minutes to get our drinks and an hour to get our food, but that's not the complaint. The complaints are below: BEFORE the food came... the tea was sour so we switched to water. -they were out of squash/zucchini(told after we ordered) -they were out of Alfredo sauce(told after we ordered) -we asked to go ahead and get the banana for the 3 year old who was super hungry and it took 20 minutes for that (after already waiting about 30 minutes and asking 3 times) AFTER the food came... -the chicken fried chicken was super hard so it wasn't eaten (it was removed from the ticket, that's a plus) -cold broccoli, like it was just warmed from the freezer but didn't cook all the way through -our food was dropped off and we weren't checked on again If you made it this far... At the very end of all of this, when we had finished eating (or not bc of the state of the food), a cockroach crawled beside our feet on the floor. Again, I will say, I don't typically leave reviews, but I hope no one else has to experience this. I'm not saying it's a bad restaurant, just VERY understaffed, leaving too much to do on too few hands.
