Nordstrom Rack — Local services in Columbia

I visited this location on Sunday, November 24, 2024 with the expectation of finding a beige hat. Shortly after the store opened at Noon, I proceeded to their accessory area wearing my workout attire. This detail may appear irrelevant but plays a pertinent role to the events which led up to my negative review. I successfully located a hat and, afterward, began my shopping venture. I didn't have anything specific in mind but wanted to browse around, like most customer do. While in the store, I observed a male employee of Nordstrom Rack ("Security") pacing back and forth around the store, but particularly in the area where I was shopping (women dresses). I selected a few dresses to try on and proceeded to their dressing room where I was met by another store employee who would later be identified as a manager on duty ("MOD"). He was friendly and complemented the dresses I had selected while opening the 1st dressing room. As I am a frequent shopper at this store location, I was aware that any clothing that I did not want, I should hang them on the rack located at the entranceway of their dressing room. I continued shopping/looking around the store and decided that I wanted to purchase a pair of running shoes from the brand On the Cloud.

After identifying and trying on the pair that I had selected, I continued looking around the store. At this time, I had selected additional dresses/jumpsuit to try on. Prior to me heading to their dressing room for a 2nd time, I overheard security alerting the MOD to be on the lookout to which the MOD responded, "I am watching." If you have ever shopped at this store, you know that the employees wear a radio styled earpiece that they communicate with each other. I didn't think much of their conversation, but I became very cognizant of my surroundings as I believed the suspicious pacing by security partnered with his grave warning to the MOD, there indeed was someone in their store seeking to steal. Nonetheless, I proceeded to try on the second round of clothing and, again, left those clothes on the rack located outside of the dressing room.

Throughout my time in the store, I continued to observe security and, later the MOD, watching/following me and it became a bit clear that I was the intended target. As I headed to the register to check out, I had reservations about the sizing of the shoes that I had selected so I hung up the items for purchase so I could, again, try on the 8 1/2 shoes before committing to them. As soon as I placed the shoes on my feet, their security rushed over into the area I was standing and attempted to disguise his behavior by 'looking" at the merchandise near the register before directly staring at my feet.

At this point, this became obvious to even the most naive person that I was being watched/monitored/profiled as a 'thief'.

Approaching the register, I handed my clothing items to the middle cashier and communicated that I was holding onto the shoes so that I could recheck if they had them in a size 9. Wouldn't you know that in a distance, their security was following and staring at me. Once I sternly looked at him, he swiftly walked away.

I did not find the shoes in a size 9 but, as a courtesy, placed the unwanted 8 1/2 back in the designated space, which is what I always do.

As I proceeded to checkout, I called what I believed to be the corporate phone number to lodge a complaint. After various transfers, I was able to speak with the MOD who was dismissive of my complaint, even providing an explanation for the behavior before hearing why i was uncomfortable. During our phone conversation, he apologized and stated that he would inform the store manager of my complaint. He didn't ask for my name, phone number, and/or email so I am not sure how that was a successful resolution.

Since the date of incident, I have emailed and called Nordstrom's customer contact number and have yet to speak with a live person. The most I have received are scripted emails apologizing for the incident and ensuring that 'this will not...

I made an online purchase and the shoes I ordered were to big. The nearest Nordstrom Rack is this location which is 2 1/2 hrs away from where I live, but I was visiting family nearby so I decided to drop by with my return. I have heard great things about this store and was excited to finally visit it. When I arrived me and my family were greeted at the door. I made my way to checkout and the wait was short. Once I got to the checkout counter I got no “hello” or “hi”. The cashier just gave me a blank stare waiting for myself to explain why I was there. So I myself started the interaction and told her I was there for an online return. The cashier said nothing and started on my return. The receipt came out and all she said was that my money would be refunded to my paypal. No “have a good day” or nothing. Rude and unprofessional! I was planning on staying and buying more items, but decided with that experience to leave and not spend my money at this location. I have worked in customer service and would never treat customers like she did me. Very disappointing and will not...

It CAN be a little hit or miss these days, but it’s handy when paired with the selection at T.J.Maxx… Be careful when shopping. Definitely try it on if it’s shoes or clothing. Be thorough about checking for any defects as the prices often aren’t justifiable if you can’t return it if something doesn’t quite work out. This is NOT the place to try something new. It seems like the return policy is a little all over the place, but for sure beware of shopping for any toiletries/cosmetics as they won’t even take back unopened, unused items that were purchased less than 24hrs ago.
