I had high hopes for this place but sadly it was extremely underwhelming. I am going to break my review down to help explain.
Aesthetics: The restaurant itself looks great. Vaulted ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, and a wonderful design. On the downside, the design and openness makes sound echo throughout. It is awfully loud. So if you are looking for an intimate setting, this is not the place.
Service: The service was fantastic. The staff were very attentive and quick to refill drinks or ask if there was anything else we would like to order or need. They brought clean silverware with each course as well as clean napkins. They were very kind and even provided us with a free round of drinks... more on that in a moment. Overall, I give the service 5 stars easily.
Food: Here is where everything went downhill for me. The appetizer was great. We had the empanadas and they were cooked wonderfully and came out fresh. For starters my wife had the Caesar Salad and I had the Tuna Tostada. Again, tasted fantastic. Then the main course... so disappointing. I ordered the filet mignon (medium rare) and sunchokes for a side. The filet was extremely dry and beyond overcooked. The outside had been seared to the consistency of shoe leather. The middle was completely browned with about a dime size area that was red. It had also been sliced into 3rds which I found odd. The sauce that was plated beneath the filet was cold. All in all, definitely not worth the money. Honestly, you could get a better steak at a Texas Roadhouse. Our waiter apologized for the poor quality of the meal and the manager comped us a round of drinks. Also what bothered me, was rather than being in the kitchen ensuring the food being sent out was of quality, the head chef was busy talking to folks at their tables and taking pictures outside. I got it, it is a social media ran world these days but being that the place just opened, you would think he would make sure that his menu is being prepared properly.
Conclusion: My wife and I will not be returning for the time being. It most certainly wasn't what we expected. If you are looking for a more intimate setting and good food, I would recommend somewhere else. If you want a loud and open atmosphere and subpar food with a smile, then this may just be the...
Read moreCame in on Friday night for a meal and had one of the funnest dining experiences Iâve had best in Columbus in a while!
Great atmosphere and ambiance exce only by the excellent service. Our server was friendly, quick-witted, knowledgeable of the establishment, menu and ingredients, took the time to answer all of our questions and be a bit silly with us. Hostesses weâre kind and courteous, and we even got to talk to the Chef briefly when we asked to ask him some questionsâfor how busy I can imagine he must be, he was incredibly kind and conversational. I left Fye not only feeling full and sated but also a lot more knowledgeable about everything I had eaten.
Most favorites listed first, my partner and I had: Skirt Steak, amazing, cooked to perfection and deliciously packed full of flavor and juice. Cured Duck, best duck Iâve ever had in Columbus and probably anywhere. The potatoes accompanying the dish pull it all together, I could eat six plates of this if I thought I wouldnât explode. Argentinean Pork Chorizo, again, just line up one hundred of these, I would never get sick of it. So much flavor packed in one small tasting dish. Seasonal Pickled Vegetables, they have mastered the perfect crunch that all pickled vegetables should have. Plus the serrano kick, yes! Sunchokes with Kalamata Olives, what a weird mix of foods but it worksâthe brine of the olives is great against the potatoes. Delicious. Ossobuco Empanadas, super unique flavor on the outside of these bad boys, inside wasâlike every meat we had hereâtender, juicy, flavorful. Dulce de Leche Flan, sweet and light, a great finisher. Smashed Young Potatoes, crispy on the outside, tender insid.
We also had the Venice Beach Spritzâan unexpected mix of flavors that just worksâand the La Rocca cocktail which seems to be an elevated tropical mint margarita in a ridiculously delightful peacock mug. Itâs so tacky and I love it. Taste wise though, amazing, like everything else we had.
Thanks for the awesome, memorable date night, Fyr! Canât wait to be back with friends and try...
Read moreI was excited about this place, my friends gave it mixed reviews- some liked it and some didnât and I think I land right in the middle after trying this place tonight (2/23/23).
I was excited after seeing all the pictures of the gorgeous restaurant with tall ceilings and artful seating and light fixtures. We were unfortunately seated outside the main room in a corner table off the kitchen. Our view looked out on the kitchen which was a bit dirty, there were bags of store bought bread lying around which took away some of the allure of a restaurant meal and we heard the chef yell SERVICE all night.
On to the service⌠given that we were seated in the corner we seemed a bit forgotten by our server. Overall the service was fine but not remarkable. Our server did mention that the chef was great and they âpaid a lot of money to get him to comeâ- kind of a weird detail to share.
Food:
We were served the roasted cauliflower first. I was excited for this dish because roasted cauliflower is my favorite vegetable. I thought this lacked depth, was maybe slightly undercooked and had a watery flavorless sauce. It needed more. Definitely not off to a great start.
We then got the Caesar salad which was a deconstructed salad. Overall this was good, and an untraditional take but it checked the box.
We got the pickles next. These had a strong bite to them and were a bit too sweet for my liking.
We got the roasted cabbage next. This was extremely charred on the outside almost inedible but the inside was great.
Then mains. The chicken was good, a bit dry. The steak was also good but didnât feel worth $34.
We skipped dessert because we werenât overly impressed with the food.
I want places like this to be successful in Columbus so I hope it gets better.
Overall I prefer the chicken and Caesar salad at Third and Hollywood. I do appreciate how this restaurant has a different aesthetic and pushes away from the traditional style of say 3rd&H, but it missed the mark for me. Itâs never fun to spend $200 and leave feeling like it...
