Shameful.Ripped-off. We dined here with our small dog on the front patio Friday July 5. We chose the least dirty table and wiped our side of it down. The food was good. There were problems, which we shared with staff before we left, and three more times in writing later. When we arrived at 5:23 PM, there was only one other person outside. I went inside to ask for service. I was politely acknowledged by a barkeeper. Ten minutes passed without assistance. I entered again, and used the men's room. On my way out, I asked the sever for help. She consented, but then ignored us. Two more lady customers arrived with three dogs at the side patio. This same server took their orders and brought them waters, before taking our orders. When I commented that our service was not timely, she stated, "You were walking around so much inside that I thought you were seated at the bar." Not that that had anything to do with the rest of my party. My wife never left the table. No Happy Hour menu was given, we had to ask about these items. We placed our food and drink orders. She brought two out of three of our waters, and neither of our adult drinks. The other party received their food. I asked the other barkeeper for help, noting the timing. He cheerfully seved us. My wife's wine glass had lipstick on it, which we pointed out. I signed up for a text receipt, which I did not receive until reaching out several times from afar, days later. When we finally received it, it was the first itemized bill we ever had access to. Therefore, we never saw the automated gratuity on site, not listed on the menu or elsewhere. As such, we tipped generously with cash and were overcharged. (Edit to reflect Gresso's reply. We live too far away to avail ourselves of your offer. As for your other comments, read my review again. You missed some points that make your comments irrelevant. Per your request, I reached out to you privately yet again the 9th and 11th, for a total of five times. You did not respond to my last messages; your behavior is disingenuous.)

I think I was way too invested in getting to know Gresso’s. I live in the neighborhood for two months now and the place was in my list of places I wanted to check out. The food was not with the quality I expected. It almost seemed that the wings were just tossed in the oil - I asked for the garlic parm and the teriyaki, we got something feeling like garlic parm and one honey mustard wing, not the one we asked. Understanding that today was quite a busy day for the bar, I didn’t even asked for the change since it was not a bad choice going for the honey mustard then. Also, the waitress was fairly new so didn’t want to add more burden to her. I got the mozz sticks, they came fast but were not even warm enough, and they also felt like they were “tossed in the oil”, simply. Counting with the two Coors, me and my husband spent more than $50 today. I was surprised when I saw charges of 1.00 for sauce and 0.50 for celery when I didn’t even know that it was an option to order it out. Also, the celery was not in none of my wings, I only had the same sauce (and I didn’t even asked for it). I couldn’t get the lady to my table to request for a correction since the bar was super busy and we wanted to leave very soon. Too crowded and noisy as you would expect on game day of course. So honestly, I would not recommend going on game days unless you have reservations and stay in the ground floor bar or… don’t know. Wouldn’t recommend getting wings. For the diverse options they had in the menu, I really thought they were quite the “chief” for the restaurant, which was not the case. I am fairly disappointed so writing this review down is a way of me communicating with Gresso’s team to say that I can imagine their importance to the German Village area but the fact that I could not see this going there today, and feeling that I really wasted my sweaty money on the only meal I eat out during a week, makes me feel it’s fair to tell my piece.

~~~SO BUMMED ~~~ As a serious Pittsburgh sports fan from the Ohio Valley, I've been wanting to visit Gresso's for a few years. I figured it would be best to hit it on a Saturday evening to get a good feel for the place before stopping by on a Steelers game day. To my surprise, it is exactly like a dark and dirty 50 year old fraternity house. Bathrooms are gross, dirty tables everywhere, some drunk regulars at the bar and one server. The place was dead. So we ordered a few drinks and a fried hot pepper basket appetizer. The good news of the visit was that the app arrived quickly and was fresh, hot, and rather tasty. Next was the "Pittsburgh" steak salad, which anyone will tell you has a grilled sirloin and fresh fries. What was delivered was some type of shaved meat byproduct that was dry like pencil shavings, had the looks of roofing shingles and tasted of salt and carpet. GROSS. Next item was Gresso's version of a Primanti Bros. sandwich. It was supposed to have pastrami, cheese, coleslaw, tomatoes and fries. Well, there was what appeared to be 1 grocery store slice of pastrami folded over, some kind of cheese, a thimble full of coleslaw, French fries and 3 mini slices of a Roma tomato on monstrous dry white bread. Even with a little slaw and teeny pieces of tomatoes, the sandwich was drier than the shaved "meat" on my wife's salad. A cheap knock off for sure and a failed attempt at that. So, there's that. A major bummer for a place I've been eagerly wanting to visit. Dirty. Dark. Uncomfortable. Food not terrible, but not good. I'd never visit here again. Now I see why it was dead on a Saturday evening. It's a local hole in the wall neighborhood spot, at best.
I would like to begin by saying that this is the first time I have felt the need to write a review on a restaurant. And it is because of the horrendous way the manager tonight treated my grandmother. Now buckle up because I’m going on a rant. To give a little context, my grandmother and her team just won the senior national games and were coming here to celebrate. First impression, one of my grandmothers teammates picked up a rag and started cleaning off the tables. One of the staff could have easily offered to clean it for her instead. But I cleaned it for her, no problem. (Now the next table we took they had to ask if it could be cleaned) Our waiter was kind and funny but then the food came out, everyone but my grandmothers. She was first to order and last to receive her meal. Even tables that were seated after us received their food. After asking three times why her food had not arrived yet, one of the waiters responded that the order was messed up. As someone who has worked in food service, I understand that during dinner rush something is bound to get messed up especially with such a big party. Again no problem, but as my grandmother kept waiting she asked when it might be out. And that is when the manager said (VERY RUDELY) “well you didn’t have a reservation for 40 people.” And he asked if she wanted to cancel the order, which she did not because she was hungry and had already been waiting all that time. This was a completely unsolicited comment. Moving on, when her food finally came out, she was given the wrong dressing. But at this point she just wanted to eat. Then came checks. It took my grandmother’s teammate three times to finally get the receipts. AGAIN everyone, but my grandmother received their checks. When my grandmother asked our waiter for the check, he said he could not take care of it (which confused her). Then brought out the check. And she then politely pulled the manager to the side and asked if anything was going to be comped due to everything that had happened. That is when the manager decided to crumble up the receipt and say “I asked you about it, why are you being such an asshole” And my grandmother walked away, which shows how mature she has been throughout this interaction. If I had not left 10 minutes prior, he would have seen what rude actually is. The only thing that saved this review was the other staff, minus the manager of course. The bartender was efficient and made good drinks. I ate the Chicken Guac and honestly expected better but the fries were good. Additionally, someone brought out shots for the team, (which was very kind). However, the very specific targeting of my grandmother, the not so passive aggressive comments, and the deliberately profane way the manager addressed her. Was very...
Does not live up to its reputation in its current state. Strong warning, this restaurant will make you eat with very inexpensive plastic cutlery, while charging premium drink prices and $15 a dinner plate. I have literally had sporks with longer tongues than the fork I was provided.
I was wishing I had that Swiss army knife, with the metal fork, I had gotten when passing my Boys Scouts after receiving my TinderFoot badge.📝🔥...
I enjoyed this small Italian restaurant's menu more their food. Everything sounded so good, now I cannot speak on the entire menu, I ordering the Italian salad.
The vegetables were fresh but conservative. I expected everything to be covered in stringy mozzarella cheese like any other traditional Italian restaurant.
Not even close...
The beer selection is diverse with some of the local breweries. The beer was good...
however my server forgot to bring my second beer after my meal came until they realized two of the other people that our table needed another drink, and casually set it in front of me as if I would not have noticed the 15 minutes that have gone by since I ordered it.
Look I was a server for 10 years and I get it. However, you are insulting your patrons intelligence if you don't say anything and are a coward. It was on you to say I'm sorry I forgot to get your other beer, do you still want me to bring it to you?... Do not expect that you still have the sale after you dropped the ball...
I was dining with new company and I just let it go. I did not say a word. I even paid for it whenever it was on my bill...
What really put the cherry on top was the absolutely ridiculous plastic cutlery that I was forced to eat my salad with. I'm telling you I have seen sporks with longer tounges...
do you know how long it takes to eat a Italian salad, each piece of each ingredient, individually?...
Me either, I had to get most of it to go in a box... Or I would have looked like my dad when he got back from Vietnam... And not made contact with any of my guests at the table...
Anyhow, it would take the right date to get me to come back...
I would educate them about this experience, strongly urge them not to go, & provide plenty of other (dependable) restaurants...
I grew up on Italian food, I love Italian food, & I was disappointed... Prices are reasonable 2 people, 4 drinks, 2 meals @$55 after the 20% tip to our struggling...
