My brother and I went to North Market for lunch a few days ago and walked around to find food. After looking at all the options, we both selected Hoyo's Kitchen as looking the best for the day.

This place has a pretty standard rice bowl setup, so you select a grain/base, select a meat (from a few kinds of chicken of varying spice levels, beef, and goat), (you can do half-and-half, though they charge you for the more expensive one), two veggies (from chickpeas, lentils, cabbage, and spinach), then salad veggies as toppings (onions, lettuce, cucumbers, purple cabbage, etc), as well as some sauce and hot sauce options. There are also drinks. It takes about 3 minutes from when you start ordering until you have your food.

Everything was hot and fresh, and tasted delicious. The employee was friendly, and the atmosphere was what you'd expect at North Market -- loud and a bit busy, but not difficult to navigate.

I can certainly imagine returning to this place, though I would also probably try other places in North...

Hoyo's Kitchen, nestled in Columbus' North Market downtown, is a gem offering a taste of Somali cuisine that deserves every bit of its 5-star rating. The ambiance, while tight due to the bustling market environment, does not detract from the overall experience. The staff shines with politeness and helpfulness, eagerly sharing insights into the menu, like the pronunciation of sukaar, a must-try spicy dish. The vibrant yet simple presentation of dishes, from the deliciously seasoned spinach to the two varieties of rice, one spicier than the other, speaks to the authenticity and care put into each meal. The lentils, described as mushy, might raise questions about traditional cooking methods versus potential overcooking; a small detail in an otherwise flawless dining adventure. Hoyo's Kitchen not only feeds the body but also educates the palate on the rich flavors of...

I came out of town specially for this place. Heard about it from my husband who came here few times and really wanted to try it.

Unfortunately, the whole north market place is closed! No number to call. No announced working hours. Nothing It was very frustrating to drive over 25 min from my hotel to this place and find it closed with no response.

Would you please put a phone number and working hours on your google maps location so no one has to experience this again?

Update: came here again and tried it! It is AMAZING! Their chicken mango -I think it’s called that- is to die for! Juicy, tender and rich in flavor. It’s a must. I also tried the spicy chicken and beef suqaar all was great! They also sell the chili sauce to go home. Take the green one u will not regret it! It takes ur food to another level. Definitely...

Honestly, I don't think there's a better place in North Market to grab a quick lunch. Flavor and spice are the name of the game and there's tons of it! Their spicy rice is a must if you have a tolerance for heat. If you're familiar with Ethiopian cuisine, you'll get some familiar notes from Somali cuisine, and you can also get injera on the side. Proteins are always tender and served in generous portions. You can't go wrong with any of their sauces -- if you have a high spice tolerance, the mango hot sauce is the way to go. Otherwise, the creamy garlic sauce is a perfect balancing act for the spicy rice. The workers are also very friendly folks. Hoyo's is certainly one of the best fast-casual dining options in all of Columbus!
