I found this place by just walking around short district, really laid back vibes. My husband and I are both just enjoying our time. The bartender was nice also. When we started playing darts theres 2 ppl approached us, maybe around their 30’s. The other one is black, and the other one is weirdly them/they really pushy. The black girl literally just cornered my husband trying to be too friendly and the them/they pushing herr way to talk to me in the other corner, that made me really feel so uncomfortable that I excused myself going to the bathroom. There i opened the door it was open, its the other 2 women part of this weird group laying down on the floor. At the back of my mind why are they so quick to be trying to make friends while the other 2 friends they have was literally high or drunk laying down in the bathroom and trying to separate me and my husband..So I returned to my husband and told him I felt really sick and we need to leave. The 2 were still very pushy asking my husband’s ID and wanted to walk us on our uber. I told my husband no and just left. We didnt even told the bartender because we didnt wanna cause a scene, but please please please look after customers especially tourists that are not familiar with the area. And for future customers trying to go there, please be careful and mindful especially when putting down drinks unattended, these people when they came in they look like they were scoping the place and why on earth dis they sit on top of the tables watching people? Are they observing who...
Read moreNorth Short Tavern was a wonderful experience on a Saturday night. Being from out of town we stopped in for some drinks. The place was full but we were lucky to get seats at the bar as people were leaving. The establishment was consistently full of people in their 20's, which we like. The music was loud and provided a positive atmosphere. People were nice as it got crowded but respectful and not pushy to get drinks from the bar. Bridget was our bartender and she is fabulous. Made us feel welcome and took care of our drinks in a timely fashion, plus well made. Drink prices are crazy low, especially for an urban environment. Long Island only $6.25, vodka cranberry is $4 and these are regular prices. Wow. I cannot comment on the food since we had drinks only. Overall loved the vibe, people and everything...
Read moreAs old downtown area bars go, this is our favorite. They open at 3:00 pm, (call ahead as this could change) and the kitchen, which serves tasty inventions, opens about 5:00. You can be assured of well poured drinks at very fair price. Yes, they have wifi. Because of limited parking, this is becoming a locals bar and less of a destination bar. But new, nearby garages have been built with 7' clearance and are a worry-free alternative to the risks of street parking tickets.
Gone are the days that you could rub elbows with Dispatch reporters and Civic leaders but the ghosts of the past are still there. RIP Tommy...
