Whit's Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Columbus

Simply put, Whit's is a wonderful place. They are family friendly and dog friendly. While I can honestly say that their vegan ice cream isn't the best, what I love most is that they offer vegans (or people with dairy allergies) all of the same options as a person ordering their traditional frozen custard. I can get a milkshake, a sundae, an ice cream cookie sandwich, or even an ice cream cake! The staff is cognizant of allergy issues and is quick to advise you on topping choices if they conflict with ordering a vegan product. Anytime we go out for ice cream, I always make Whit's my top choice because I can get a vegan treat, my fiance can get the frozen custard he loves, and my dog gets a complimentary pup sundae. It's so nice to go to a place where both the owner and the staff genuinely care about their customers and go out of their way to make you feel like a real person. It means the world to me that I can go to a place that has normalized vegan frozen treats alongside their traditional frozen desserts. Everyone is my family leaves Whit's happy. I can't say...

Updated in 2021: i’ve had to remove two stars because, since moving back to columbus, the quality at this location has decreased. just one too many times getting special flavors without an adequate amount of the special flavor in it. it’s happened with the birthday cake ice cream (not a single chunk of cake found) and others. have had much better luck at the westerville location.

I have been a sweets connoisseur my whole life and have yet to have a frozen dessert better than Whit's Frozen custard! The custard has a very soft, creamy consistency that makes me personally prefer it to traditional ice cream. I've been frequenting this place for awhile now and it seems like they are always coming up with new flavors and new combinations (check the fridge, there's probably a quart or pint that suits you.) Try the flavor of the week, or blend your own special concoction in a Whitser.

Full disclosure, Whit's blessed me with the first dairy-free milkshake I've had in over two years, which is a gross amount of time to live without a milkshake. So, that fact on its own warrants a five star review.

If you've never had soy ice cream before, it's by no stretch of the imagination traditional ice cream, but it's in every way better than not having ice cream at all. If you're going with the soy cream, however, I would definitely recommend getting a couple different flavour combinations in order to mask the overall soy taste.
