My fiancé and I stop here last weekend on our way home from camping all week in the north woods. We had fine service and the place is nice we sat at the bar. Drinks were cold and tasty. But the food starting with the complimentary salsa was just about the worst attempt at Mexican food I’ve every come across. The gloopy salsa was incredibly sour like straight lime(artificial) juice! I almost spit it out I thought it was like old or something. Clearly out of a big pasteurized jug of “ old Ortega” my fiancé was indecisive so she ordered the combo plate it was a big hot mess literally! way over sauced, the beans were unbelievably overpowered with cumin. Huge gobs of sour cream in four separate locations on the one tiny oval plate, now the fact that the three proteins on offer at this place were steak chicken and pork carnitas one might assume a Combo plate would entail some example of each. However what it actually was would be more aptly discribed as “tortilla con pollo 3 ways” Mini chicken chimichangas, and a flat “crêpe thin” chicken quesadilla (smothered in sauce made by a person with no ability to taste the over load of Chile powder) and a flat chicken “enchilada”. Like I said “tortilla con pollo”, completely hideous to look at might I should add,(HUMANS EAT WITH THERE EYES FIRST!) that said she enjoyed the guacamole that was on her plate, I would have tried it but there was only about one table spoon so I let her enjoy that. As for myself I ordered the Carne Asada. My steak was so salty it was like eating corn beef, reached my threshold for salt 1/3 of the way in and nothing else on the plate was worth eating ohh and covered in wet broiled tomatos.... let me take this moment to reiterate THE STAFF WAS GREAT! Attentive, knowledgeable(chatted up about the finer points on tequila), friendly! When the bar tender noticed my steak uneaten he ask what was wrong I explained it was extremely salty “like it had been brined”. He took it away apologized. Minute later a very apologetic manager (w/a great “customer isn’t a jerk” just want to know what was wrong attitude) he said something about the amount of green sauce he had seen on my plate that went back was way too much. My entree was taken off the bill. My fiancé is not the type to complain so she didn’t make s fuss about her barley touched plate. I don’t want anyone who knows what Mexican food really is to wander in here and think they or there friend and family are going to get anything resembling authentic Mexican food. Couldn’t even classify this as “Tex mex” honestly if you doing more then drinking, go anywhere else in concord after you suck down a margarita or two. ...
Read moreEdit: I emailed the address below two weeks ago. Received no response. It's clear that their below pretense is for the reader's benefit. Not for mine, the wronged customer. Original review below.
I wish I wasn't writing this review. I really liked this place.
I ordered takeout online last Friday. Paid, tipped and my wife went to pick it up. We get home and her meal is missing. I call, and after being transferred to the manager, he insists he followed the receipt and put everything in the bag (he says he loaded the bag himself). This is easily verified. Our receipt included the missing meal and our bank statement showed the full withdrawal. Only then did he admit that a part of our order was missing.
Now, the right thing to do is to get us our meal with as little inconvenience to us, the customer who did nothing wrong, as possible. That means delivery. Not an option. Not only did he not have someone who could do it, he refused to contract one of their delivery companies (Grubhub, etc.). Fine. Next option, refund and something by way of apology. He agrees to send a gift card. What about a refund, asking only for the cost of the meal they missed? No refund. He can't do it. Fine. I'm not happy, but I'll be made whole once we get the gift card, which I expected to cover the missed meal and enough for the rest of us to eat out (him having a pretty good idea of how much that would cost, having just looked at my bill). Nope. Barely covered the missing meal plus the (undeserved) tip we left. I don't remember his name, but he was the manager working 4/2 around 6:00. He tried to remain professional, but from conversation and compensation, it is clear he doesn't care at all about keeping our business.
We'll probably use the gift card. We'll aim to get as close to the piddly amount they gave us without going over so we never have to spend another cent there. After that, I guess we'll be...
Read moreAbysmal. Though (and I can't stress this enough) the service was excellent, the food is extremely poor. I wish the chicken in my taco could be described as tasteless, but it actually had an unpleasant stale taste, as if it had been sitting around all day. The tacos arrived cold and limp, with refridgerator cold soft flour tortillas. Though the rice and beans that came with them were palatable, the tacos themselves had to be smothered in hot sauce and drowned in the mediocre dry rice to mask the flavor of the chicken. Then, (since this was taco Tuesday and I'm not about to waste 10 dollars on 3 tacos) I proceeded to get the beef softshell tacos. The tacos arrived similarly cold, however the beef it's self seemed to hold a vestigial core temperature, like a piece of dung about an hour after it was vacated. Though it had a similar consistency to the aforementioned dung, it tasted alright. Though the spices used were far from Mexican, southwestern or any other denomination of this particular genre of food, they were adiquite for an above average meatball. The next round (because I hate myself) was hardshell beef tacos, since I didn't trust the chicken not to give me some sort of colonic explosion the next day. These came warm, though not warm enough to melt the cheese, and without lettuce. They we're the best of the bunch, and if at the end of this review I'd recommended taco Tuesday to you, I'd recommend them exclusively. The only, and I mean ONLY reason for the second star is my excellent waitress Cassandra. Cassandra is a good employee, and she and the person who hired her deserve recognition, because other than her service I'd give this place one star and unleash another paragraph of...
