My 2 guests and I had the following this week: 1 salad - there is no more prepared salad -You tell them how to "make your own", Fried Fish, Liver, Turkey w/Dressing, a really yummy low-sugar or no-sugar Carrot Cake (from far left in dessert section), Rolls and Various Vegetable choices. ALL the FOOD was TASTY and seemed to be FINE QUALITY! BUT everything would have been so much better if our food had been served at a HOTTER TEMP (not just very WARM). We didn't have a long food-service line, maybe because it was 5:25 p.m. BUT THE LINE seemed TOO SLOW also. All of our food was ONLY VERY WARM by the time we got through the line and paid and were seated. Maybe because there were none of the overhead heat lamps, like in the good old days. And by the way Luby's : What happened to the time when your employees helped carry trays and take them away, and also get seated? WHAT the heck HAPPENED to MENUS? Remember food choices were posted high and back above the servers, or LISTED on a BOARD, that show the food selections and types of plates you can put together??? Usually, there was at least some sign next to the place where we get our tray & silverware. But, there was NOTHING ANYWHERE, not even a placard, to identify the foods with. Are we supposed to ask each server what a dish is by pointing at it?? ALSO, THERE WERE NO PRICES POSTED ANYWHERE - except for the Manager's Special- written in chalk. I FIND THAT HIGHLY UNUSUAL for ANY RESTAURANT. As for service, there was one waiter for the entire establishment and he did check on us several times. Meanwhile, there were 3-4 ladies standing around, kind of near the register, for at least half of our stay. The three of us dined and chatted and caught up on current affairs for almost exactly an hour from parking until leaving. When we left, Luby's STILL didn't have many guests. Maybe less than a dozen tables were occupied, if that. I would bet money that : IF THEY KEPT THE FOOD HOT, IF THEY HAD A BLEEPING MENU & IF THEY STOPPED HIDING THE PRICES & PROVIDED FASTER & BETTER SERVICE - I bet more hungry people would stop in, tell their friends and even come back again!! After 3 trips in as many years... Luby's of Conroe is STILL only a 3 Star place. And ☆☆☆ ONLY because the Southern "comfort food" is...
Read moreSo this afternoon my son and I ran an errand that took us to Conroe, not far from home. We were both starving, having left work and school not long before then. I hadn't had a chance to eat all day, and as we passed Luby's, my mouth started watering, and memories flooded back to when the boys were little, and my wife and I would take them out for dinner. My son will be 18 next month so he was looking at his phone wanting to hit a fast food joint, (there are plenty in the area), but I finally convinced him to have a stick-to-your-ribs, down-home, southern-style meal with his old man. I gotta tell you, it was worth every penny. 😌 We both enjoyed it. 😉
It's been 8 years since his Mom passed away, and we just talked about her, stuffed our faces, and enjoyed each other's company ❤️, and the sweet tea. On the way home 🏡, I mentioned that I missed that fresh sweet tea, 😋 and he said he does too. Luby's reminded us of another time.
There was no frozen pizza, no microwave dinners, no sitting in front of the TV. Just me, and my little man (he's as big as me now), eating a wonderful meal, the kind I grew up on, and reminiscing about the way it was. 🙂
I could go on about the wonderful service, the fact that the food tastes like your Grandma made it 😋 , but if you haven't taken the wife and kids to Luby's, well brother, you're missing out.
To Luby's: Thank you! Thank you for keeping it real 💯 for all these years 🙏. Thank you for putting love into what you do. ❤️
We'll be back again, and again. You're a part of my family 👪, and we love you. ❤️
Update 8/31/23: Hasn't changed a bit, and that's the way I like it 😊. P. S. The German chocolate cake 🍰 is the bomb 💣!!!
Thank you for another wonderful...
Read moreWelll... so sad to give Conroe Lubys a 3 star. They use to be a 5 star in my mind . The food is quite mediocre in taste now. I have always enjoyed the chicken fried chicken Luan platter but its not on the luan anymore . So you get hugely oversized portion that would take a grown man to finish. The chicken was cooked well and had a good flavor . The white gravy on the other hand was disappointing. It tasted like a cheap white gravy knock off . The mashed potatoes tasted pretty good and is still made from real potatoes . 😁 The dishes are questionable looking. I don't know what method they are using to clean them but they looked dirty. I felt like I needed to bring some plastic utensils. Annnndddd.. for last but not least.... I do want to say that most of the workers there look like they are working reluctantly in a Prison cafeteria, but I want to give a Shout for Johnathan who was very up beat and friendly in the serving line as well as Chris who was working the Cash register. Also our waitress Pam was very pleasent and friendly , got what we needed right away and acknowledged that she heard me when I did call her nicely 😁 Thank you so much Pam for helping me out with the pie when I accidentally got a piece of sugar free pie lol 😱
I don't see a reply option so I will just add this to my review. I did speak with a store manager there as I was leaving who seemed genuinely interested in my opinions. I did share my concerns with him and made sure he knew about his wonderful workers that we encountered while dining. Thank you for your response. It's good to know your comoany does care and I look forward to writing a positive review when I visit again....
