As soon as we stepped in the door, the hostess was so sweet and enthusiastic in greeting us. Our server Rico was very attentive and friendly. The food is delicious and better than other seafood boil restaurants I've been to (Mad Crab in STL, The Boiling Crab in the west coast). I love their sauces and was pleasantly surprised by drink menu as well, especially the Potion of the Ocean and Orange Creamsicle. Highly recommend!
EDIT: Unfortunately, I am changing my 5 star review to 2 stars. On multiple occasions, we’ve had to wait anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes to receive our fountain drinks after being seated (even when they are not busy). Customers who arrived much later were served drinks, chips, and food before us many times. Once our waitress informed us that they were understaffed which is understandable, but this seems to be a consistent issue lately. We get that being understaffed can lead to a longer wait, but it does not explain why many families who come in after us are served first. I am not sure if this is preferential treatment or a mistake from being disorganized, but for it to happen repeatedly is poor service. Once we are actually able to get a server and put in our food order, the kitchen staff is generally punctual with pushing out the boils. But then our food is just sitting and cooling down while we wait for our server for another 10 minutes to get our bucket, napkins, gloves, utensils, etc. Once our server had to make the alcoholic drinks herself because the bartender was unavailable. She did her best but they tasted horrible (for example, the margarita was inedibly salty). It’s extremely disappointing how quickly standards have fallen. We will no longer be regular patrons due to these issues and unapologetic behavior. We hope that Hook & Reel can work on their staffing because the food really...
Read moreI recently moved back to Glen Burnie & I was on the hunt for some great seafood after having a seafood craving for awhile that had made me checking out several seafood restaurants over the past few weeks. I remembered while leaving Giant that this had recently opened awhile back so I decided to check it out.
I ordered the shrimp Po boy lunch special with hush puppies & clam chowder. I have to say, I was surprised at just how good their Po boy was. I had recently went to G&M & got their shrimp Po boy & while good, this was much better & the cook on it was far superior. The shrimp was crunchy yet sweet, the batter wasn't overly heavy & you could still taste the shrimp. I personally feel when there's a heavy coating on shrimp that it detracts from their actually flavor. It also wasn't overcooked so it was beautifully tender & seasoned well. The soup was decent & it had a great consistency but overall I wish it had a little more seafood flavor. I think it lacked in the sweet yet subtle slightly almost briny flavor you get from clams. That said, it was still good. I personally thought their hush puppies were awesome though & loved dipping them into the soup.
I took away 1 star because of the soup but I'll be sure to come back & try the rest of the menu. So if you're teetering with the idea of checking this place out & haven't, I suggest you pull the trigger & go. It really was a great lunch & rather reasonable for what you get. The atmosphere was nice, definitely someplace for a date night or afternoon out with your loved ones. I wish I had time to stay but I had a carful of groceries. Overall, it's definitely a must check out if you're wanting a good, cheap yet quick...
Read moreThe minute we walked in this establishment the hostess said “are you in the wrong hook and reel” not sure what that meant, but I’m African American so I’ll just leave that open for interpretation. We sit down and my partner orders two drinks after waiting 15 minutes to be acknowledged due to their shortage of workers. A clearly uneducated (or maybe just a liar) manager who appeared to be on drugs or maybe recovering from such came over to our table w/ one drink and said it’s “illegal” to order two drinks after asking to see my ID. I don’t drink and have no need to show my ID for someone else’s drinks. I don’t know what her issue was, but she was being extremely sarcastic and weird. Whatever the case may be, it’s clear the whole establishment needs additional training and a refresher on liquor licenses. Establishments literally serve 2 for 1 drinks yet it’s illegal? Absolutely not. The lies just kept coming. Oh, almost forgot to mention, she told my partner if she “hurried and sucked that one down” she could bring her out another one but also apologized for the wait because the “bar was so backed up.” So let me get this straight— you’re convinced my partner is trying to slide me drinks so you lie and say she can’t order 2 drinks at once even though it is clearly a 20-25 minute wait to receive ONE drink.. hmmm… I then realized the hostess was absolutely right. I was in the wrong location. Unprofessional, slow, all around weird. Wouldn’t Recommend. I attached a photo for the uneducated manager on how to...
