I've been to Destin a few times now and I'm always skeptical for high reviews of foreign cuisine. Mostly because in most vacation/tourist towns in Florida, non American food, especially Asian food is unique and not common so to most locals it tends to lean towards higher reviews for being unique.
At first glance Real Thai Fusion, looks very average from the outside. It sits in a small shopping center with a few small stores/boutiques as it's neighbors. The interior of the restaurant is not too big. Décor wise it's presentable and welcoming with some Thai style art inspiration.
In terms of the menu, it's about the same as almost every Thai restaurant I've been to. You have staples like pad Thai, curries, drunken noodle, etc. Prices are average and not too expensive. Portions are generous and can be shared with another person if you don't feel like eating too much.
The thing that makes Real Thai Fusion stand out as being the best Thai restaurant is the flavor of each of it's dishes. Some how they manage to pack rich savoriness to each bite. If this place was located in a more well known city with more competition of similar cuisine it would still stand out because it just taste so good. Now I only had 2 dishes in particular the Panang curry and drunken noodle, but they were the best I've had in a long time in my experiences with Thai food.
I know that sounds like a lot of love, I would definitely recommend anyone in the Destin area go there I find out themselves how good this place is. You can tell for one it's authentic and second the owners know exactly what they're doing here. It's the attention to details that count. Like for example I noticed my carrots were cut it the shape of fish, something not that obvious unless you looked closely. Stuff like that stands out to me.
Everyone says it's the best Thai restaurant not just in Destin, but the panhandle itself. Big statement, but of the ones I've been to in Florida, Real Thai Fusion ranks high. Give it a shot and find out what all the...
Read moreI'm writing this review in hopes that owners/management see it and can regroup with staff. This place is fantastic, I've been bringing friends and family here for 5 years now. However, something has happened with the flow of dishes coming from the kitchen in the past 6 months. At first, I thought it was a bad night but, now that I've experienced it on my last 4 visits, I can say it's not a one time event. It's currently anyone's guess when your table will all receive their food, it certainly doesn't all come out together or even relatively close. This last visit, we (a table of 4) sat down and placed drink orders. I observed a table of 4 with drinks, eating appetizers. We put in our order (no appetizer) shortly after drinks. Another table of 4 was sat 10mins after we arrived and ordered drinks. Then the chaos started... my dish came out before anything from the first table, who clearly had ordered before us by the way they looked over at my lone dish. Then, over the course of 20mins, 2 plates of the first table, 3 of the 4 plates of the last-to-be-seated table, then one more for us, one more for the first table, the last plate for the last table, and then one more for us, we then all sat for another 8 minutes for before the first table received their final plate and I had to inquire if our last plate was going to be delayed much longer as my food had long ago gone cold. I realize some dishes are just a quicker make process but by the end of this kitchen circus, at least one person from every table was eating COLD food for their dinner. I love this place and I will come back, crossing my fingers that the process improves and I can...
Read moreI have eaten at Real Thai Fusion a number of times in the past year. Their food is very good, the service is also very good, and I do not hesitate to recommend the restaurant.
On recent visits, I ordered and enjoyed the Pad Broccoli with shrimp. I ordered this as it has carrots and, of course, broccoli. No peppers or onions are in this dish which are not my favorite seasonings.
My wife frequently orders the cashew nuts dish. It has good flavor and available spicy or mild. We normally opt for mild but for those with a different taste preference, the spicy options are available.
Often when we have lunch, we also order summer rolls to take home. These are healthy and sufficient for a light dinner for two people. Be sure to try the peanut sauce that can be used for dipping the summer rolls. More recently, I have also been a fan of the fried rice. There are several rice options available. I always opt for the version without peppers and including carrots, tomatoes and other vegetables. It is very tasty and relatively inexpensive (about $14) with a choice of meat. A combination of several meats is more expensive (about $5 more).
Wine is available also. There is a limited selection but it is more than adequate.
The service is very good. The servers are always friendly and knowledgeable about the food on the menu. They appear to be very familiar with Thai food and it is largely a family affair.
For those visiting the area and looking for something that does not qualify as a "tourist trap", this restaurant is located in a small strip mall right off of Highway 98. Prices are very reasonable. The luncheon menu is no...
