This place started off great but slowly fizzled. Ease of making reservation online for 9 people was a plus. Host was super nice and friendly. Lighting was darker than normal but I think the level of lighting makes everyone look better.
Our server, Sabrina (I saved our receipt to get her name), was attentive at first to make her up-sale, but once we decline on our 2nd bottled water, she disappeared. I asked for regular tap water when my husband got his second alcoholic beverage and she never came back with regular tap water for our table until we asked for the 3rd time after the meal. I think she took it personally because my glass of water was intentionally not filled until my husband pointed it out. It was 4th of July weekend and we had 3 kids with us, they were just hungry and thirsty.
Our two older kids ordered off the regular menu but the youngest ordered off the kids menu. We had to ordered two kids meal for him because the server told us they couldn't substitute the fries for a smaller portion of Mac n cheese instead.
Then when the food came out, the server had to "auction" the food. Meaning wasn't able to track who ordered what entree, use seat numbers! I've been in the restaurant business for a long time and that's my one thing to know if you're a good attentive server or if you're bleh.
Food was okay. The shrimp tacos were good, scallops were a bit over done and the sauce/ spices on the scallops were too heavy. Menu says carmelized scallops but I think it was more like blackened. We ordered the haddock w/ crab was charged haddock w/ crab but received the haddock risotto special which was $2 cheaper but by this time we were over it. We go to Conway a few times a year, wanted to make this place one of our stops when we are in town, but unfortunately there are better service at other...
Read moreWe were only in NH this one day on our trip and on our one night, we spent an hour looking over places. We decided on this place per their menu, as my daughter is vegetarian. While the food was wonderful and my hat to the talented, creative chefs.. really nice job and sooo tasty on the apple goat salad, cheese board and steak that we ordered. Perfect in every way. However, the service was atrocious. The place was 1/4 full, inside and out. We asked for the outdoor seating that was behind/ on the side of the restaurant. She said the tables were open, but we'd get best service if we seated outside in front.. this is the table by the parking lot.. the worst possible table with zero ambiance... just pavement. We said sure if that helps their wait staff/ seating. Then we waited 25 min for anyone to approach our table. I went inside to ask for service. We waited 15 more min. The server came, no apologies - she was just totally smug. We nicely placed our orders without complaint. The food was great. However NOT ONCE did she ask if we needed a beverage, never asked how meal was or if we needed anything. It was as if we were a bother. We never saw her after the staff bought the meal. We waited 20 past finishing our meal, then I went in to ask for the bill. 20 min later...she finally brought it out. 2 ppl $114! I totally understand food cost and staff/overhead costs, etc, but to have an awful table with awful service, with that bill, I'll never come back. Chefs:...
Read moreLong time customer and last time customer. My wife and I have been coming here to eat for years with our dog. We decided to come here again today for lunch. Things started great. The server was great and we ordered a Margarita and Maple Ade, both great. That is where the visit took a turn. We got our food, the wife got a burger and I got the Black Sea Bass. We are not typically ones to complain much as my wife is also in the restaurant industry, but this time set me off. My fish had bones in every bite, I did eat a good deal of it hoping to not get any more bones but I lined them up on the plate (about 8). The server took the plate back and returned embarrassed to deliver the Chef's response...."It's fish, we do our best. He ate most of it, the piece he didn't eat won't have any bones." They offered us a desert which I respectfully declined, we paid for our bill, and went across to the road so I could get a burger myself. With that response I thought we were being pranked or something. I have been eating fish for over 40 years and yes you make get an occasional missed bone but not one in every bite. If that is your best, then just take fish off your menu before you send someone to the hospital and at least have some tact and professionalism. The waitress did ask if we would like to talk to the Chef, but given that response, we knew it would not be a fruitful conversation so we politely declined that...
