Baskin-Robbins — Restaurant in Cookeville

I went to Baskin Robbins last night around 6-7pm for the first time and it went well overall. There were two boys working when we first entered, one with long, dirty blondish hair pulled back, and one with shorter brown hair and glasses. The shorter haired boy greeted us and asked if we had any questions, and we said we were not quite ready to ask/order yet and just wanted to look around. We asked for a sample from the shorter-haired boy and then they both stood back and whispered quietly. Both boys then did not speak to us for the remaining time we were there. The other boy didn’t speak or look our way the entire time nearly.

I think it’s odd that they are in a customer service/hospitality related position at Baskin-Robbins yet didn’t speak to us or try to make it easier. Their demeanor was not necessarily unfriendly but it was not welcoming. It made me feel awkward about asking questions, so at first I did not want to. I think they may need more training/practice but they didn’t appear to be nervous, it just came across as though they did not care about much besides the bare minimum requirements to serving a guest.

Then the shift leader came out from the back and was a delight! She was a shorter woman with brown hair and glasses. She was joyful, warm, and made me feel open and secure. She was very friendly and offered us samples, and welcomed questions. She also double checked for confirmation before beginning any part of our order. I appreciate her kindness and it resolved my initial experience with the other two employees. (The other two employees didn’t necessarily do a bad or awful job, but for this being my first experience they have a lot to learn and I would not have been eager to come back based off the initial impression.)

This girl came in and completely turned it around with a smile on her face, and it makes me happy to support businesses whose employees care about their customers as much as they do. IF I COULD GIVE A 6 star I would!!! I have an Aunt and uncle who live in Cookeville, I’m from Wa state. Every time I visit since 2018 we go at least once and get ice cream from here. My first visit in 2018 I had a met an employee, Tyler. His genuine smile, love for his job and knowledge of the product, all made him in my experience, there memorable. Every time I go back in, he’s there and remembers me, greets me with his contagious Smile that lights up the room. Fast forward to 2023 and he was working when we went in on January 24. We were happy to see one another on my annual trip and began talking. After about 4-5 min of chatting and then sampling some flavors Tyler humbly told me he had become THE OWNER of that store! I was so excited for him,!! He the youngest franchisee in the history of Baskin and Robbins. The manager was working as well, and she was a delight. As we talked, she told me that he not only was a great worker there and owner, but also equally amazing employer she was actually the one who trained him. Large variety of hard ice cream flavors, as well as some mix-ins/toppings. If you're not certain, try a free sample first. Also choice of bowl, cake cone, sugar cone, or waffle cones (plain waffle cones or dipped in chocolate, with or without nuts). Waffle cones are usually great, although at my last visit and a few other times, I've gotten a stale cone, which is very disappointing. They will blend your shake or banana split to order.
