Steak 'n Shake — Restaurant in Cookeville

Steak and Shake has always been my favorite go-to restaurant to satisfy my milkshake/steak burger need. We’ve never had any issues whatsoever at this Steak and shake but, the experience we had today made it into a bitter and heartbreaking one, unfortunately. We were seated the minute we walked in to eat for lunch. We waited patiently to get our drinks and food order since we knew exactly what we wanted. But we waited and waited. We watched numerous families who walked in after us already receive their order while we haven’t been asked how we’ve been. And we have already been waiting for nearly half an hour. By then, we would have already had our food. I’m very understanding of the food retail employees, especially steak and shake since I generally see them understaffed, but there were plenty employees working then so there shouldn’t have been any reason for us to be left in the dark like that. They didn’t acknowledge us at all or wondered why we were sitting there with just menus for nearly 30 minutes but, clearly they knew we were there since I saw them all off to the side pointing and looking at us. I left once the family who came 10 minutes after us already getting their ticket to leave. My husband talked with the manager after I had left the restaurant explaining how we did not receive service at all and the manager was very consoling with him, however he said as he was talking to the manager he could simultaneously hear the waiters/waitresses right near by telling each other how neither one of them wanted to serve us. The manager said he was going to do something about it but I’m very certain nothing will get done. My husband and I are a very friendly, young couple and are not intimidating whatsoever so now I’m left wondering if I was deemed unapproachable. From what I understand in any service, is to treat every customer like you were accompanying your own family. I left feeling the complete opposite of that and I don’t plan on coming back...

Steak and shake use to be the go to place! But it has quickly went down hill. My best friend and I went there Saturday after prom, knowing that they was probably busy and it would take a little bit and we was fine with that. I was not fine with how we were treated as well and everyone else there. We walked in the door and there was plenty of seats everywhere they wasn’t that busy at all. It took them 10 mins to seat us. After we sat down the waitress ask us what we wanted to drink and if we knew what we wanted yet and as soon as my best friend started ordering, the waitress got and attitude and was very rude. Again we knew there would be a wait for our food BUT WE WAITED 45 minutes for two burgers and fries and for our drinks we got shakes it took them and extra 5-7 minutes to bring us our shakes, both of which we couldn’t even drink because they were so thick. The food was good but definitely not worth a 45 minute wait. As we were getting up to leave I watched a worker take fries off of a plate sitting on a dirty table and eat them!!!! I’m not about wasting food, and I didn’t witness her wash her hands after, come on that’s disgusting!!! We stood in line for 10 minutes, us being at the front of the line the whole time. When the waitress got there is was the same one that waited on us. And my friend when to hand her the money and she completely ignored her at first but then said “WELL HOLD ON I GUESS” my friend is a very kind person I on the other hand say how I feel and she knew I was about to say something so she hurried and said “it’s fine!” Then I so loudly said “we’ve wait 45 mins for our food and 10 mins up here so no it’s not fine. It’s not fine at all!” I waited the rest of the time outside so I wouldn’t go off on that lady for how we were treated. Would if negative stars if possible. We walking in after a long day Saturday night after leaving a restaurant that was a complete mess hoping for a good quick meal about 9 PM. We stood in the front of the store for 15 minutes before even being seated as the host stood and talk to the cook and after getting seated we waited another 10-15 minutes to even get our drink order in, at that time we had just order our dinner as well another hour to an hour and a half goes by we finally get our meal, without our waitress even asking if we need more drinks, because her and another lady were too busy fighting with each other in front of customers, one of our burgers was burnt and looked like scraps I wouldn't even feed a dog (wish we had taken pictures) another one had a burnt egg on it and the last one was cold in the middle. all the while a bunch of what looked like high school kids were walking around the entire restaurant talking and yelling about how the girls bra strap broke and how they needed to go to Walmart, with the staff members who were clearly their friends and that's fine and all except they were yelling over other peoples tables and distracting the workers. As we get up to pay the manager was standing at the cash register talking with 3 other customers about them going out next weekend and then we wait 5 minutes while the manager goes back and gives one of the guys a free drink and stands around and talk to him for another 5 minutes.
