When I first fell in love with Korean food and had it in the US, one thing all the restaurants had in common was terrible service. Often the staff would be dismissive or rude. The service here on a night with few other customers was awful. The woman who took our orders was friendly enough. She just seemed to find chatting with the other staff more interesting than taking care of her customers. Everywhere I've dined in the time I've been here has had shockingly good service. This is the exception.
Its a bit of a struggle describing this as a Korean place. Like so many other restaurants in town, they serve a very wide variety of unrelated Asian food (which they call Oriental). The spicy seafood soup, aka Jjamppong, was definitely sub par and missing ingredients common in Korea and US Korean restaurants but it was passable for a small restaurant trying to be all things to all people in small town Oregon. There was no ban chan offered although you can buy kim chi. You'd probably have to travel a ways to get to a real Korean restaurant. Friends say the Chinese dishes are good but its not in their top 3 for the area. We didn't try the Pho and I don't recall if Thai food was among their varied options.
In a city with authentic options I might have been harsher in my review but in this area I understand that you have to take what you can get. YMMV with...
Read moreWe stopped by here for dinner - they were open till 9 and we were craving something other than the fish & chips restaurants. Definitely glad we did - they have such an array of Asian cuisine. We were feeling the sushi and they serve it fresh.
You can get Beef Pho Noodle Soup, Bento Boxes and Chinese stir-fry here, too. They have specials on weekdays! Monday’s is a Chicken Teriyaki bowl for $7. Tuesday, California roll (8 pieces) for $5. Wednesday, Spicy Pork Bowl for $7. Thursday, Chicken Katsu with steamed rice and cabbage salad for $8.
Mindy was our waitress and was so friendly. It’s a family restaurant and you feel comfortable being in their hands.
We got a sushi sampler that came with all sorts of fresh fish and a Cali roll in the center. The rainbow roll we got was huge and satisfying. We also got a sashimi sampler that came with a generous amount of 2 slices each - yellow tail, salmon and tuna for $8.
Good selection of Asian imported beer, wine, sake and plum wine. I got the Chardonnay and it was a creeper - light and sweet and I felt wonderful after dinner with one glass, $5. Matt got a large Asahi beer for around $7.
Fortune cookies given with the check 🤗🥠
It’s busy around dinner time but clears up by 8PM. Free parking on...
Read moreSumin's was always one of our favorite places to eat. Always clean, very sweet waitresses, & amazing food; however, our 2-person take out dinner last night was definitely not as good as a few years ago. Our Beef Teriyaki dinners were missing the white rice we asked for & replaced it with Chow Mein... my least favorite food! There was no side sauce on the Beef Teriyaki dinners; the salads were SWIMMING in water & there was no dressing on them or on the side; the side of prawns were not the large shrimps we remembered but these were 3x smaller & appeared to be pounded flat to look bigger but these actually had a side sauce of ketchup with a dollop of hot mustard; the pot stickers tasted great but again... no sauce. Two dinners, two sides & one beer while waiting quite awhile for the order (= $54 + $10 tip)... Not worth it! There was no time or space to check our order before leaving, so needless to say, a huge disappointment when opening these at home. Is this under new management? A new cook? Definitely not our favorite place anymore. Hopefully, Sumin's will get it together & fix those issues that many customers continue to write about. We...
