We had great food at Threefold Café, but our overall experience was tempered by an unfriendly greeting by the hostess, a no substitutions policy, limited gluten-free options, and a fairly expensive check when it was all done. Our very first experience inside threefold Café, and the very first interaction with anyone there was when we asked to be put on the list for a table. The hostess, who greeted us (eventually) was unfriendly and made us feel like we were interrupting her entire very busy life just by asking for a table.
Having to use the bathroom was also a frustrating experience. They only have a single use bathroom for men and for women, and there was a large crowd of people waiting to get into the bathroom for about 15 minutes, and when the person using it finally came out it was one of the cafés staff members. Now I understand sometimes it just takes a while in the bathroom, but if it's a super busy branch time at your restaurant, and your staff people are preventing customers from using the bathroom for such a significant amount of time, you might need to look into other options to provide this is sensual service to your customers.
The other issue we encountered, and this is again before we even got any of our food to eat, is that their online website menu didn't match the menu that was actually given to us in the restaurant. We're not from Florida and we check out menus before we stop into restaurants, because we have various dietary preferences such as vegetarian and gluten free, so we rely on menus online being accurate to make our decision about whether or not to come. And specific items which were on their website we're no longer available which was very disappointing, because those are the items that brought is in the in the first place.
Also they state on their website menu that they offer limited modifications when we got there and my wife tried to substitute something for the tellers to that came with the green and gold egg dish, because she's gluten-free, we were informed that there was a strict no substitutions policy. Again we haven't received any food yet and we already have numerous complaints. This would've been a four-star restaurant for us based on the quality of the food that we eventually did get, but all of these items that happened before we even got the food really created an atmosphere of disappointment for us which was hard to get over when considering the overall rating for this place.
Now for the good news: everything we had was really good. It was impressive that they offered coffee artistically prepared in either an Aeropress or Chemex. I had the aero press brewed coffee, since I'm an arrow press User at home and it was really good. Exactly what you want coffee to be at breakfast bold strong and lots of flavor.
I enjoyed the Green and Gold breakfast under the “Eggies" menu. I have this prepared with egg whites which were perfectly cooked, not always a given when you ask for egg white breakfast places. The goat cheese and herbs gave it all a great flavor and I enjoyed the ZTB bakery bread it was served on top of the oblivion of the floor of the café.
My wife also have the green and gold breakfast which she thought it tasted good, but she was definitely disappointed that she couldn't substitute anything for the bread. She's a gluten-free person and so wasn't going to eat the bread and ended up spending extra money to add a separate side item to complement the dish. (and overall they were limited gluten-free items.)
The star of our meal as far as I'm concerned it was the hashbrowns.A sort of puck-shaped hash brown, perfectly brown and crispy on the outside, and perfectly tender on the inside with a nice lime flavor and nicely salted. One of the best hash brown experiences I've ever had.
This is also one of the most expensive branches we've had in what we thought was more of a mid range café based on the style of the place. Over $50 for two dishes and a waffle plus our coffee felt like quite a lot relative to what we spent and other places for the...
Read moreCame here after being turned away from Greenstreet Cafe's breakfast and my brother really wanted breakfast at 3 pm for his and my dads bday. Saw that the reviews were good so we decided to give it a try. I can honestly say it was the worst $90 spent by my family in a while, and that's that one of us (out of 5) didn't even order anything because it was so pricey.
Pro: I will admit the restaurant is very nice and modern, cool and relaxed vibe. The server was also pretty nice to us and the place was pretty empty, so we felt we were gonna have a nice time. Also picture perfect food. But that's it, it only looked good, the flavor was not up to par.
Con: Everything else. Idk if maybe it's because we were expecting something different since the reviews are so good and all the pictures looked amazing, or maybe it's because it's Australian and we're not really used to that? Even then, I don't think that was the case.
We ordered:
Not So French Toast: the pictures look amazing, but really just very bland. Felt like I needed something to give it more flavor because it had none. All I tasted was basil.
Pope Benedict: My parents shared this one because their prices were just really pushing it. $16 for two eggs on very, weirdly vinegary/salty hashbrown patty. Everyone in my family who got the hash browns said it tasted like the potatoes were cooked in vinegar and then dumped a pound of salt into the mix. I had to try them myself and that is exactly how they tasted. Is that how they're supposed to be? Vinegary hashbrowns? Anyways, my parents said this dish was okay. Nothing to rave about.
Big Bad Aussie: my brother got this and he wasn't satisfied. He said the beans were bland, the slab of bacon was about an inch thick piece of gooey fat with a very smoky flavor. Again, not something we were expecting. $19 dollars for this... 19!!! "Fried eggs*, house baked beans, hash brown, bacon slab, spinach, ZTB toast and house relish" I just really don't know what exactly warrants this price besides the huge piece of fat on the plate. Location maybe?
Little Kid Waffles: $7.. my little sister ordered this because it was part of the kid menu. Now, when they say "little" kid waffles, they really meant little. They were two, very thin and about 3in x 3 in. Which okay, i get because it was part of the kid menu, but eh. Nothing special.
For drinks we had orange juice, pomegranate lemonade, chai tea latte, and a coffee.
I know this was very long, but honestly, we just felt so dissatisfied and left some food behind. We never do that. We always take leftovers home.
Again, the service was good, but the...
Read moreLIZA, LIZA, LIZA!!! I'd been eyeing the menu along with food pics on Google for some time so I jumped at the opportunity when a friend came to town to visit! My excitement started to take a dwindle when my navigation system kept sending me in a vicious loop. I called the restaurant and Liza answered! Her guidance was kind, welcoming met with sincere determination to get me there. Liza is literally DRIPPING with Midwest hospitality! If you've ever been to the Midwest then you know exactly the warmth I speak of. I asked Liza for landmarks and she literally took the phone outside to properly route me.
I ordered a latte then my greedy eyes stumbled over their locally source hot chocolate! Yum! I casually mentioned that I wished I ordered a mocha with this locally sourced chocolate. Liza overheard and pounced into action to recall the latte and set me up sweetly with the mocha instead! I went sweet paired with sweet and ordered the chia pudding French toast with guava and strawberry coulis topped with nuts. My guest had a chicken ceasar that he loved.
Threefold does not skimp on the quality of ingredients they prepare their dishes with even down to the lettuce. The place is exceptionally clean and the staff touched our table AT LEAST FIVE TIMES during our dining experience. Miami wait service could learn A LOT from Threefold!
You need to know: Threefold is situated on an enclosed street with other eateries on either side. The street is not accessible by car. Park a block over and easily walk into this cute cove.
What I'm ordering next: Monkey Bread with ESPRESSO Butter. Yup, you...
