When it comes to dining experiences, I've had my fair share of disappointments, but nothing could have prepared me for the utter disaster that unfolded at TooJay's. From start to finish, this place managed to shatter any semblance of decent service, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth that not even their coffee could wash away.
Let's begin with the initial affront: the lackluster service. Is it too much to ask for a spoon with my coffee? Apparently so, as the server, who seemed more interested in their own personal bubble than attending to the customers, conveniently forgot this basic necessity. I found myself awkwardly stirring my coffee with a fork and knife before corralling the hostess, who fetched the necessary utensil from the kitchen.
As if the spoon debacle wasn't bad enough, my table was left parched without so much as a drop of water. It's astonishing how a restaurant can forget such a fundamental aspect of hospitality. Perhaps the staff assumed we possessed magical powers to hydrate ourselves, or maybe they just didn't care. Either way, it was a clear sign of their apathy towards customer satisfaction.
But the nightmare didn't stop there. When my food finally arrived, it was apparent that time had not been kind to our over hard eggs. They were not only cold but had the audacity to taste as if they had been sitting on the counter for hours. It was a cruel reminder that the kitchen lacked any sense of urgency or pride in their culinary creations.
To add insult to injury, the torment continued as we attempted to settle the bill. Waiting an unreasonably long time for a simple check seemed to be the server's way of extending their disregard for our presence. They appeared to be playing a sadistic game of hide-and-seek, purposefully avoiding eye contact and pretending to be busy with tasks that conveniently excluded tending to their tables. It was an exercise in patience I was ill-prepared for and left me contemplating a swift escape without paying altogether. Again, I had to summon the hostess to get the attention of the waiter to settle the check. It was at this point it became clearly evident that what was once a revered establishment in Coral Springs had spiraled into mediocrity relying solely on its name recognition.
In summary, TooJay's embodies the epitome of poor service and incompetence. From neglecting the most basic of customer needs, such as providing utensils and water, to serving subpar, cold food, and subjecting patrons to extended wait times for a simple check, this deli has shown an astonishing lack of respect for its customers. Save yourself the anguish and steer clear of this culinary nightmare. There are far better establishments out there that deserve your time, money,...
Read moreI ate lunch with a group of ten friends on a Sunday afternoon. The inside could not fit us so we ended up at the outside tables. It was fine since it was a beautiful day. We were lead to a group of separate tables but the hostess just pointed to them and then walked away. The staff made no effort to put them together for us. It wasn't a big deal to move them but it just showed a careless attitude. Once I sat down I noticed the tables were filthy. I went inside to ask for something to clean them and I was handed three dry paper towels. I had to insist that this was not going to get the job done and finally I got them to agree to send someone to clean the table. Someone did eventually show up but since we were such a large group I expected a little more care when seating our group and I found that lacking.
Fortunately once our server showed up the service improved. He was very quick to get our drink and food orders. TooJay's has an extensive menu and I loved pretty much everything on it so it was hard to pick. I finally settled on a strawberry lemonade and the Reuben sandwich. Other people in my group had the chicken and waffles, salads, matzo ball soup, vegetable chili, and shepherds pie. One person in our group is a vegetarian and there were a lot of good options for her. Our drinks and food were brought quickly and all at the same time. Usually when there is a large group someone is left waiting for their food and that was not the case here. Everything look great and my meal was delicious. To top off our meal we had rugelach for desert. I have had their black and white cookie before and they are a favorite.
The problem for TooJay's is that there is a lot of choices for dining in this area. Our first choice was actually Metro Diner but they were too busy to accommodate our group. They had a 45 minute wait and Too Jay's was half empty. With all of the competition you would think that they would want to step up their customer service to stand out for the crowd but this was...
Read moreHad a catering order placed a few days ago for an 8am delivery this morning 3/10/24. I checked the email confirmation and the delivery time stated 8pm. I immediately called and spoke with Larry the Manager. He advised that somebody just came and picked up my order. I asked if it was their delivery person and he said NO. The person had my name so he gave him my catering order. I explained that the people who were getting the delivery didn't know i was sending anything and nobody but Toojays would have known about my order. He kept on saying.... I don't know what to tell you ... he had your name so I gave it to him. I said, dont you see that it was to be delivered and that I included a tip for the driver ! Again, I don't know what to tell you. I called my friend who was the recipient (lives in another city from me) and she said doordash just delivered the order. I called back and spoke with the manager Larry again who was very combative with zero accountability. I advised that he should have known that Doordash picked up the order as that was something that they enabled I had no idea that they would employ Doordash He said well this is my 2nd day on the job .... which frankly, I shouldn't have to know that but it was very obvious that he had no problem solving skills or customer service skills. I strongly suggest additional training for this manager as the break down from the delivery time reflecting pm instead of am and the fact that they engaged Doordarshan to fulfill the delivery and the manager didn't know that ... led to a horrible customer experience with an extremely rude, combative manager who, by the way told me he was going to hang up on me. Not the experience I expected after catering many times from Toojays. My business will now go...
