Grave disappointment. I wish I had different things to say in my review. I placed an order via a delivery app and it was already close to closing time. Perhaps my roundabout 9:20pm order had has something to do with how the food turned out? Not really an excuse, but I'm trying to understand how a place that has MAC AND CHEESE in the name could have missed the mark so terribly. I ordered the Chicken Parm Bowl with Regular pasta and pesto. Among the available choices / modifications / add-ons, I picked Regular pasta, CRISPY chicken, toasted breadcrumbs, pesto and a side of the tater tots ($3.95). Good points: Pasta doneness was great and I could taste the cheese. Bad points: DRYNESS. Again, Mac and cheese in the name and my order wasn't creamy or had any similar texture to creaminess in it. Maybe I am confused about what the overall texture is meant to be (?). I ordered CRISPY chicken and received chicken that was breaded. Not fried or baked, just breaded and placed with the pasta. Think of soggy angel cake that sat in the sun during Little Tim's beach birthday party and had wind blow sand on it. That was the entirety of the crispy chicken I selected, aside from the actual texture of the meat being chewy. The tater tot portion is 11 tater tots. This to me seems disproportionate to the cost but, I'm not a restauranteur or a person who knows what size potions should be or maybe I was just feeling extra hungry or just extra cheap. I'm also wondering if the commute between the restaurant and my house was the catalyst in turning what was possibly the perfect Mac and cheese into what I tried downing earlier. I really wanted this to be different :((( Did I overestimate the quality of the mac and cheese in a place called 'I Love Mac and Cheese'? Who knows one day I'll walk in and order the same thing inside of the restaurant and it'll all be different? Maybe I'll sit, eat and and have a wonderful experience which will allow me to come back to this review to edit it, raving about the perfect Mac and cheese. Till then, I'll work on building up the courage to order from I Love Mac and...
Read moreI left 2 stars , only based on the fact that you have wonderful employees/ Customer Service.. The young man at the counter this evening was friendly , helpful , & very informative. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience with the food. $15 for a build your own Mac & cheese bowl , seems kind of pricey, but I figured I'd give it a shot... First , I noticed the cheese slices were melted, but only barely , thick, gooey, half melted cheese slices in the bowl, is not my idea of appetizing. Next , the veggies , still raw , in the bowl, biting into raw pieces of onion , also, unappealing, I was under the impression that they'd be caramelized in some capacity. I was wrong. The chicken... Salty & overly processed.. I couldn't stomach it. Tastes like it came out of a bag that had been stored in a fridge for a long time, comparable to deli meat. Everything had very small portions. We asked the young man behind the counter to heat it up one more time. He did, happily, & apologized for any inconvenience. Again, he was great. I picked at the bowl, reluctantly , because I was so hungry after a long day at work, but I was not satisfied. I like the concept of the restaurant. I will also say, it is very clean. But the food is poor quality. Will not be returning, if you've been thinking about coming here , I highly suggest going somewhere else. Even Panera has more satisfying...
Read moreI wanted a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. I’ve been thinking about one for days. Arguably, it is one of the most basic home-cooked meals and is excellent when done right, but I did not have the appropriate bread (thick, hearty white, or wheat) or my ideal cheese for this use (American). So I went out to get one from a specialist.
The chain, which I have never been to (because I avoid chains) focuses on build-your-own mac and cheese and grilled cheeses. I went old school — plain grilled cheese on sourdough. I chose the only two “plain” cheeses they had, which were white and yellow cheddar, which do not melt like processed cheese, and cheddar tends to get oily when it melts. They also use butter on the toast instead of mayo, which most diners (and I) use to make the sandwich, which tends to make it greasier.
It's a pretty good result, although I would argue they should have a classic American cheese as an option. The tots are of a seasoned variety; I liked them. The sandwich also comes with a small dipper of their tomato soup, which has basil in it. It's sweet, maybe a bit too sweet for my taste. Panera-esque. I was looking for acidic and salty, the classic flavor profile.
Next time, I might build something more ambitious, such as with bacon or braised short rib. They’ve also got lobster here. The server/counterperson was excellent. I...
