We really just turned into the parking lot by happenstance. What a lucky accident!
My kiddo and I ordered the fajitas, fettuccine alfredo, brownie bottom pie, and piña colada sangría.
The fajitas were served on a sizzling skillet and all the sides - pablano rice, sour cream, lettuce, guacamole, tortillas, and pico de gallo - were beautifully arranged on a side plate. The veggies were perfectly sauteed; not overly soft, just cooked through. The shrimp were also cooked perfectly; not chewy and over cooked nor undercooked. I was delighted at the citric kick of lime juice and the sweet addition of pineapple. The pablano peppers were the perfect addition to what would otherwise be described as cilantro rice. It was not so much that it would be spicy/hot, but just enough to deliver the flavor. The guac was almost certainly freshly made to order, and I think the pico de gallo was, too. I paired it with the piña colada sangría entirely by accident, but all together the meal was perfect as though it was planned by the head chef.
My daughter loves my alfredo (a true cheese sauce; no bechamel base), and is generally disappointed by restaurant fettuccine, so I actually tried to steer her to a different meal. She insisted, and so it was. After the first bite, she enthusiastically informed me that it was just as good as mine and she loved the grilled chicken. She ate every bite! [This is not to suggest that they do or do not use a bechamel base. I didn't taste it, so I don't know. I only mean that my incredibly picky daughter loved it].
Finally, the brownie bottom pie. Again, the presentation was spot on, and not what one typically finds in Iowa. I only had a few bites of the brownie and chocolate sauce. The brownie is soft, cakey, and moist. With the added chocolate sauce, it's a very sweet, chocolatey bite that feels nice in the mouth. It also come with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and a small swirl of whipped cream topped with a bright red marichino cherry on top.
The feel is very much an upscale taproom that combines dignified, friendly, and cozy. The serving and management are a true team working together to ensure our experience was excellent.
I'm certain we...
Read moreFood was great! Only issue was the service. It started off ok, but seems as if we were forgotten. What should have been a 45 min dinner, took 1h 45 min, just because of the delay in service and time it took to get food. We arrived, sat, got waters right away, and were greeted by our server who was also tending the bar. We told her we needed a couple of min. After about 15 min, we had to go hunt her down. We finally ordered. After ordering our app (tincan nachos, which was a huge portion of mostly soggy chips and hardly any other toppings), we waited another 15ish without food. Our server came back, noticed our app wasn't there, and left. About 10 min after that, our app was delivered by someone else, who noticed we needed refills of water. 10 min later, out comes our meals delivered by yet another server. This time we finally got our refills of water. A different server stopped by to ask how our meals were, which they were great! I had to get up and go to the bar to ask for another refill of water, and just decided to ask for boxes and bill since I knew It would take forever. I was right. She refilled my water and said she would bring the boxes and bill to the table. Waited 10 min for this and our bill was wrong. We went up to the bar to have our bill corrected, wrong again After standing at the bar for literally about 10 min waiting for the right bill, we were able to leave. By the way.... there was only 1 table sitting in the bar, who had just arrived about 15 min befit we left and the 2 customers who were sitting at the bar had already left.... we would try it again with a different server because our meal was really good and...
Read moreThe service is probably the worst I've ever experienced. A group of four for lunch and we all just ordered simple sandwiches or burgers. We were there easily 45 minutes before our food came. Long enough for everyone to drink a complete drink and part of a second. Food finally came and was okay. My cuban sandwich was good, but the chips weren't very good and didn't get eaten. Two people got fries and weren't impressed. The half deli sandwich apparently wasn't very good and the brisket was more like shredded beef shoulder than actual brisket. Cowboy burger also not memorable. Let's get back to the service though. Food finally arrives and waitress asks if we'd like anything else. Napkins for starters would've been good since there were no napkins or silverware on the table. We asked for napkins, silverware, ketchup, salt/pepper, and bbq sauce. Waitress returns after about 5 minutes with ketchup, bbq sauce and two napkins for four people. Then asks if we needed anything else. We ask for more napkins. She returns several minutes later with more napkins. I didn't see the point asking for silverware or salt/pepper again. It's a small restaurant, so honestly I can't understand why it took so long to get napkins. When she finally returns to give us our checks 30 minutes later (without coming back to check for refills or anything else), it takes her another 10 minutes to return to collect our checks and bring us the receipts. All told it took almost two hours just to have a simple sandwich for lunch. TL;DR: expensive food that isn't worth the price and...
