Surfing Crab — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

Absolutely loved this place!!!!!! The manager Miss Shannon was super sweet and attentive and even checked on us during dinner she was very down to earth and friendly and made us feel very welcomed and right at home! Not to mention we had an amazing waitress Kaylie! We could not have asked for better service or for a better experience. We had gone to Corpus for a fun two day little trip but it seemed as though everything was going wrong. We had a two hour drive ahead if us and we originally went to Joe's Crab Shack next door where they told us they could not serve us because they were closing yet we had gotten there 30 minutes before closing. Mind you we were all wet from the rain, had 3 children with us one being my nine month old and had driven all day, we were tired and hungry and they would even let us wait inside for the rain to pass. Their manager looked at us ugly and even intimidated the host. The host told his manager right in front of us it's ok sir, we are not going to serve them we told them we are closing. And the manager smiled at him like, good job! 🤬 When we asked where else we could go? They said there's a lot of places just don't go to Surfing Crab because we hear they have poor service. Then sent us to a place that was closed! Well I did not listen I noticed Surfing Crab had way more people and the people coming out were all happy. I decided we should go there. Thank God we did! Never ever will we give Joe's Crab shack business! The moment we walked into surfing Crab everyone was nice they let us take our time eating. We hardly had to wait for our food or a table. Moderately expensive, food okay. Limited seafood options, odd pricing , between combos and selecting al la carte. Oh, look at the Lunch menu, it's more expensive than dinner?? Pretty weird. Good thing we went to dinner I guess. Wifey loved the fried combo rice, not what you would expect from a seafood place, but it was actually really good. I love calamari, but theirs was unfortunately tough rubber, like a used hose coupler o-ring. Speaking of rings, the onion 🧅 rings were a nice size, onion itself was nice and tender, however, the rough bland batter needs help. Texture was good, but maybe overcooked in burnt oil? Bland weird chunky Marina with the onion rings, seemed weird to me along with a strange tasting ranch dressing, no it wasn't tartar sauce. Yes, with the onion rings. I would have expected, I don't know, maybe ketchup?

Seasoning for the boils are fantastic, corn cobs, potatoes are great 👍. Tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were missing from this spread, especially with shrimp.

Speaking of shrimp, they ARE AMAZING. Big, cooked perfectly, great taste. Service was great and attentive, perfect every time. Seated quickly, within 6 minutes with a very busy and packed place. They said 45 min wait, but it did not take that long. Went to car to sit down (no space indoors) sat in the car and they called, ready to seat.

Overall, nice. Not a repeat place, not exactly a wow factor. For that price of over $180 (6 people), I'd rather spend that at a more reputable...

I had high hopes for Surf n Crab, but unfortunately, my recent visit was extremely disappointing. I ordered spicy crawfish, but what came out was only mild. I informed our waitress, and after waiting 10 minutes with no response or solution, I tried to get help from someone else because my original waitress was nowhere to be found.

Another waitress came over, and I explained the issue. While she was trying to assist me, my original waitress appeared. When asked if she could help resolve the situation, she flat-out said no — right in front of us. At that point, I had no choice but to ask for the manager. I was about to spend over $100 on seafood, and I expect the food to be prepared as I ordered — or at least to have it corrected if there was a mistake.

To make matters worse, there were three of us at the table, and we all ordered micheladas — two with alcohol and one non-alcoholic. I’ve been sober for two months, and the waitress served me the alcoholic one by mistake. I didn’t realize it until I took a sip and had to switch with my friend. That’s a serious mistake and shows a lack of attention and care.

Overall, the food was not what I ordered, the customer service was dismissive and unprofessional, and I left feeling very disrespected and upset. I won’t be coming back, and I don’t recommend this...
