Love this place. I wish that was all I needed to say and everyone looking for something special would be convinced!! Basically, if you are looking for real Chinese food, especially their Szechuan style cuisine, you'll find it all here.
Absolutely fantastic Chinese food. I mainly go here for the super delicious, spicy, and authentic dishes like the ChongQing Spicy Chicken which is the best restaurant version of that dish I've ever had, anywhere. They will really kick up the heat if you ask. Also it is hard to beat their Super Spicy Hotpot with tons of fun ingredients and amazing flavor and huge amount for the price, too. I'll note that a few places in the area do certain types of hotpot really well(and debately better than others), but The Show's hotpot soup base is a personal favorite for me. Hunan Style Pork, Szechuan Style Pork Trotters, Szechuan Crispork, and Pan-Fried Squid are fantastic things you rarely find made so well. The Dumplings, Potstickers, and Szechuan Red Oil Wontons are made very legit too.
What's even more special is that even if you come here for more typical "American Chinese" fare, they will take those to a whole new level. Favorites like Sesame Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Egg Flower soup, Egg Rolls, and similar dishes are very tasty without relying wholly on sugar for the flavor.
10/10 sushi too. If you like other sushi in town, please give it a try as it is a new menu addition, but they serve the freshest tasting sushi and sashimi in this whole area, no joke. I like a couple of the other sushi places and was stunned when The Show added it on so superbly. Delivery has not been late once yet, either.
I'd like to also note that, sure, some of the more authentic Chinese restaurants in this part of the state may make certain individual dishes a little better than another will. That is fairly expected, and no restaurant will make my favorite version of every dish they offer. However, I truly can't believe how close The Show hits the mark across the board with many different cooking styles and dishes when compared to home-cooking I've experienced from Chinese friends, I'd give them the same rating as my requested spice level, 11/10...
Read moreThis review only applies to delivery (as eating in what looks like a converted Taco Bell doesn’t scream “ambience” to me). The nicest thing I can say is that it is decent, but inconsistent.
I have ordered from here over a dozen times. I have tried the sushi, chicken and pork dishes (both mild and spicy), as well as egg rolls, pot stickers, and scallion pancakes. Portions are generous for the price, if that is something you value. But the options can vary wildly from order to order. Sushi can arrive with more or less pieces than described, though generally tastes fresh. And the sushi can be either nicely assembled or sloppily thrown in the take-out container. Chicken and pork dishes vary from chewy to tender, sometimes with quite an abundance of vegetables and other times with barely any. The heat level can also vary depending on the order. The scallion pancakes tend to be thin and dry (or, sometimes, oily). Egg rolls are mushy and don’t really have much flavor. The pot stickers are consistently good. I’d skip the fried rice as it is bland, with very few additional ingredients. The regular rice is, well, regular rice.
Delivery is also interesting. They provide an option to request extras. Try as I might, I’d say that they only note and fulfill that request 10% of the time. The request? Extra soy sauce. Hmm. They also skimp on the wasabi paste and pickled ginger and don’t have (for whatever reason) Chinese hot mustard. All that said, the delivery fee is fair, the order always arrives promptly, and their rewards points are more than fair.
Compared to other options in town (which range from cringe-inducingly ‘Americanized’ to horrifically and cloyingly sweet and inedible . . . you know who you are), I’ll stick with The Show. And I would recommend it too. Just adjust your expectations and don’t expect too much of a show. This is, after all, Corvallis and not a Chinatown in SF, Toronto, or...
Read moreI have no idea how this place has so many 4 and 5 star reviews. The quality of the food is equal to what you'd buy in the frozen food section of your local grocery store, then let it sit in your freezer for a a year before you use it. I'm not exaggerating when I say you could literally taste freezer burn in almost every dish. There wasn't a single dish we bought that wasn't a complete let down, and it was expensive, especially given the small portions. The Orange Chicken tasted very peppery, dry, and overpowered any sauce that it was slathered in. the Sweet and Sour Chicken breading was mush like it was cooked, then left in an inch of water to soak. The chicken in it was flavorless. The Chicken Fried Rice was overcooked and burnt in many areas. So you either got a crunch from it, or it was soggy. It also had no flavor. The Chicken Lo Mein Noodles were nothing but garlic butter noodles with some lettuce and the usual fillers. We also ordered the Beef and Broccoli. We got Chicken. Fine, not a big deal, but again, no flavor, and the chicken just had an off taste. Finally, the egg rolls were terrible Soggy, cheap wrap, bland. I know this has kind of become a thing with a lot of restaurants serving frozen, mass produced, egg rolls, but what are we paying for here? I could have gotten all this at half the price and reheated it myself.
Complete and utter waste of money. I hope this helps the next person before they get duped by the reviews on here. Hands down the worst American-Chinese food we've ever had. We couldn't even eat it all it was so bad. We threw most of it in the garbage,...
